  • ** I used a Q50 because it's trickier and less conventional, but most family cars should be more straightforward and can be jump-started with the same procedures and tools.
Jump starting an Infiniti Q50 Hybrid. The battery hasn't been replaced since the car left the factory so sometimes it'll have trouble starting. The tricky thing about Q50 Hybrid is that you can't directly see where the battery is, instead you can only see a knob marked as '+' after you remove the plastic cover under the bonnet. Don't turn on the battery as the first step, you'll need to hook the red clamp to the positive screw and the black clamp to any bare metal(as the ground connection), then you turn on the jump starter, give it a few seconds for the electrical system to charge and 'wake up‘, then sit in the car and start it from 'off' state (instead of 'accessories' state), then you should be able to get the car start and running

Thanks for the instruction - very useful. Is it due to 12V being so old (around 7-8 years since you mentioned 12v never been replaced since from the factory) that the hybrid battery won't be able to charge it?

Someone told me that the hybrid system is powered by another battery that's placed between the back seats and the boot space. My car was made in 2015 and I guess 7 years is as much as it can last😂

@@wheelinfluence3131 Correct, the car has two battery systems: 1) the 12V and 2) hybrid battery around 2-3 kwh capacity (don't quote me, lol). My understanding is the 12V is only responsible for the car accessories, while the bigger hybrid battery is for all driving related functions (also starting the vehicle). Originally I thought as long as there is juice in the bigger hybrid battery, the car will always start, but it seems like the car has some preventative system that won't allow car to start if there is something wrong with the 12V. In this case, you would have to jump start like you demonstrated in the video.
