    Glad someone in Reform understands the problems with emissions laws. Is there any chance you guys could try and reverse some of this nonsense if you get elected? I have an old diesel, it doesn’t smell or anything. You’d barely know it’s running while it’s sat at idle. But the government wants to make it impossible for people like myself to drive. DPFs and AdBlu are costing people ridiculous amounts in repairs, these mandates for automatic braking and such need to be binned too.

    Euro standards only apply to the vehicles being manufactured at the time of that particular Euro standard introduction and not vehicles already manufactured. Also, if I lived in London or any city with ULEZ I would drive a highly polluting 40 year old car/van which is exempt from ULEZ....Beat them at their own game.

    You make a number of valid points. However, two things come to mind immediately.
    1. "Euro 7" applies to new vehicles, not to existing vehicles which comply to the current regulations.
    2. You do not make any reference to the one thing that prospective voters will be likely to deem of paramount importance.
    What are "Reform" pledging to do about "Euro 7" if they come to power to serve the British people?
    I own a small collection of classic cars and drive a 2006 Lexus GS300 SE-L daily. By any standards, my car is exceptionally "clean", with exhaust emissions barely registering under test. I am also a "Blue-Badge" holder, so not subject to LEZ &ULEZ regulations anyway. I can of course, have a Mobility car, but to do so would mean having to be forced into an EV. This would place severe restrictions upon my freedom of movement and increase my fuel costs exponentially; to say nothing of the increased insurance costs and destruction of my no claims bonus. (Insurers will not accept Mobility insurance as part of a no claims discount calculation).
    We, The People of this nation voted in a non-political referendum in 2016 to leave the EU. We have no reason to still be tied to it in any form, yet we are. Will "Reform" cut those final ties?
    EVs are not fit for purpose outside of inner city and urban communities; I know this because I carried out a series of exhaustive comparison tests in the summer of 2023. With current charging costs and real world performance, EVs cost nearly twice as much to run as a petrol car! Check the figures and do the sums. They are most definitely NOT the future. How can they be when; a simple crack in a battery pack casing renders a £70,000 vehicle a "Write-off"? Purely due to a replacement battery pack costing more than the residual value of the vehicle!
    The more I hear from "Reform", the less convinced I become. I worked closely with the likes of Nigel Farage and Godfrey Bloom to sever this country's connection with the EU; yet today, I see what in my opinion an increasingly corrupt Parliament trying, and succeeding, in the tyrannical rule of the very people they are paid to serve! Sadly, I'm hearing similar things from "Reform"; who appear to be just another self-serving club. A club where The People are not members.
    Euro 7 will fail eventually, because the motor industry are, quite simply, too powerful to destroy!
    There's a storm coming - soon!

    Wrong - EVs hardly use their brakes ( they use regeneration) so emit far far less brake dust. EV brake pads will typically last the life of the car which is part of the reason their service costs are low.

    • @macky4074

      @rhiantaylor3446 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@macky4074No - when you touch the brake pedal the first thing that happens is regeneration and only if you press relatively firmly will actual brake pad contact be used to slow the car. This radically reduces real brake wear.

    • @macky4074
      @macky4074 Před 2 měsíci +4

      @rhiantaylor3446 it is only for about the first 5% of braking that uses regen/dynamic braking. The rest is the hydraulic brakes. The wear of brakes, tyres etc is pretty relative to an ICE vehicle. The lower maintenance cost comes from the fact an EV has a battery some wires and a motor and an ICE vehicle has an engine and gearbox, which is vastly more complicated. To suggest the brake pads would last the life of the car is nonsense.

    This claim is completely baseless.
    The Euro standards are about improving the emissions of new cars being manufactured. They don't affect cars already on the road. Pushing manufacturers to make future vehicles less polluting to improve air quality generally is clearly a good thing.
    The requirements for ULEZ compliance have been determined on a case by case basis for different types of vehicle based on the health effects of their emissions. Only Diesel vehicles have to meet the latest standards which are from nearly a decade ago. Petrol cars and motorbikes have laxer standards. The vast majority of vehicles driving in London were already compliant anyway. A small proportion of vehicles were causing a disproportionate effect on air quality which has now been improved. Small businesses who needed to upgrade to a newer van were given £5000 per vehicle to help them with the cost.
    Since the ULEZ standards already don't require all vehicles to meet the latest standards, there is no reason to think that just because new standards for future vehicles have been introduced that the ULEZ requirements would be raised to match. TFL have stated as recently as December that there are no plans to increase the requirements to Euro 7. They also said there would be a public consultation before any changes are made.
    All vehicles and industrial activity have a negative impact on the environment. EVs have a much lower impact over their lifespan than oil powered vehicles.

      How naive of you believing that councils won't raise the LEZ standards.
      There is already a discrepancy between Scotland, England and Wales if it comes to GB - I don't really watch Irish news so I don't know.
      In Scotland motorbikes are exempt from LEZ. Diesel is Euro 6 and Petrol is Euro 4 minimum.
      Considering that even some cities in the EU are openly announce that their LEZ will be periodically reviewed and adjusted to new standards, you can bet this is going to happen in England as well.
      There is zero scientific data available to prove that air quality in London has been improved since introduction of ULEZ. All the news regarding the improved air quality in London are biased and mention a report by London, basically they praising themselves.
      Some independent reports suggest that the whole fiasko only raised air quality since 2021 by 3% - and this could have been achieved in other ways as well, like with better incentives to move city folk to EVs, like Norway did, with free charging and tax brakes....
      Hold-on, forgot, UK is broke due Brexit, nevermind.

Yes tyres wear out quicker due to increased weight, but brakes last longer, so there is "some" trade off between rubber v brake dust particles.

    If gov bodies were really worried about emissions then they would mandate cars to all be heavy duty diesels which go 1million km + and are reliable and metals can be recycled and rebuilt 10 times over..
