My concerns: ridge vents can leak from wind blowing rain, even with baffles. They are made of plastic, and there is no plastic that I know of that does not degrade from UV radiation. Ridge vents have a life of 10-15 years, so they would need to be replaced long before a quality roof would need replacing. Box vents will last decades. Aren't all box vents screened to keep out insects and critters? The ridge vent would be an open invitation to insects.
I ha ve a ridge vent. Is there such thing as too much intake airflow? I don't think the intake in the soffits is adequate for my roof and want to cut holes and put in those rectangle vents.
Hey Brian! You will get similar airflow, however, a ridge will never leak while turtle vents are prone to that down the road. The less penetrations in your roof, the better.

No one has any demonstration of the ridge vent that it works, there are videos from home owners demonstrated ridge vent don't work. Prove that it works, companies sell it said it works but never have any demonstration that it does. In essence, they were not truthful.

if i am installing a roof ridge do i remove the box vents. if so what would you use to cover the old holes

Just got a new roof. Had whirly birds, and they were replaced by multiple box vents.

Yes, I think power vents are a waste of money for all roof types. I have yet to tear off a roof where they power is still running on them.

I have side eave vents on my house. Should I install a ridge vent or a power attic fan ? My house gets really hot in the summer.
And do you have intake soffit vents as well? If so, your side eve vents should suffice.

@@GMAN95120 Honestly, either is fine. As long as you have an intake and outtake, that is what is most important! You can't go wrong with either.
I don’t agree with your comment on the power vent. Most houses are sealed correctly and they will pull air through the soffit vents.
Most every roof I have ever replaced, the power vents stopped working.
