      The breath-ability is very attractive of the tar paper.

    OMG why does everyone with a youtube channel think they need music in the background. And then you read comments and everybody wants the music turned off. Please we are trying to hear you and don't care about the music. How do you possibly think music helps your presentation? By the way --great topic and material in spite of trying to be fancy with the editing.

      Totally agree with you and we have that fixed now. Our editor just needed some time to get the videos right. If you haven't checked out our channel lately, we've got a lot of other great videos coming out with really, really hot girls running in bikinis for the FULL VIDEO while I talk about roofing and construction that you might enjoy with lower music ;) Like this one for example - czcams.com/video/z2OWDXYV_mM/video.html

    Great editing on this video. I was bored and wanted to see the cost difference per square foot on 30# and synthetic in our area. The cheapest roll of #30 felt was $15.75 for 216 feet which works out to be around $0.07 per square foot. The cheapest synthetic felt was $64 per 1,000 square feet which works out to around $0.06 per square foot!
    Very cool. Great video, Zach!

      Chris, I am glad we weren't the ones who bored you! And you are exactly right, it's just as economic and is a better quality product IF the roof is properly vented. Thanks for the input!

    Informative! Thank you. What about Ice and Water Shield? We use that in Mid Atlantic area for snow freeze thaw cycles which cause ice dams. Water then backs up under shingles and can cause damage without it.

    How does the synthetic underlayment hold up in the wind, before shingles are laid?

  • @heartgod
    @heartgod Před 2 lety

    Great video- question for you. We have been having leaking from our 20 year old Spanish tile roof and were told that the underlayment is very poor. Most of the tile is in good shape, with some tiles being cracked. Would removing the tile and then putting new underlayment an then replacing the tiles be an option? We estimate that with our house (about 8100 SF roof; 6/12 pitch), cost of totally new roof with Spanish barrel tile is around $170000- perhaps less expensive if we went with a composite Spanish tile.

    Do breathable synthetic underlayments have any benefits over regular synthetic underlayments for high pitch shingle roofs in cold climates (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada... think north of North Dakota)? Thanks very much for any thoughts.

    What are your thoughts on how it holds up when exposed to the weather prior to the installation of the shingles? I've experienced leaks around the plastic tops when exposed on the synthetics. After talking with the manufacturer's rep, he recommended not leaving it exposed...smh

      @@DigitalRoofingInnovations, I worked for a builder back in the 70's and he always had me cover the roof with 15# asphalt impregnated felt and I lathed it down with wood lath. We would do this in the fall, and it would not get shingles until the spring. Never had a leak problem. He did this with all his houses if I was going to be the only one shingling. We didn't have a big crew, and he always started building a house in June. This was in Fargo, ND and yes it does get windy in Fargo.

      If you can, find out who the manufacture is of your shingle, and ask them what they recommend. There is no perfect answer without knowing who made the tile and what they have tested.

    I put a tarp over my bare garage roof because a storm was coming. I was going to put on a felt underlay. Looking at the tarp all tight and tidy on my garage roof, I was wondering if there would be any benefits to applying the underlay on top of the tarp and just shingling over both of them...
