In today's video we get the Audi R8 built up more, sort the engine issue from the last episode where it was a little lumpy and try and drive the thing out the workshop! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Wedge the clutch pedal down about 80%over night and leave the cap undone. It's worked for me a few time👍🏻
Sometimes with a hydraulic clutch you need to pump the pedal repeatedly to get a good clutch, even after all of the air has been bled out.
I agree. It improves when you do this. I would also try using a brand new oil can full of brake fluid and connected to the bleed nipple. Slacken the master cylinder cap then pump the oil can a few times. Repeat pumping the pedal and bleeding as required. Worked well for me in the past.
Needs 2 people or something to keep peddle down after a couple pumps
Could it also be problems with either the slave or master cylinders surely removing gear box is the last resort? Hope it’s a simple fix
disheartening after all that amazing work! But I'd enlist a mate to depress the clutch pedal while you watch to see if the slave is really pushing the rod all the way - I've often found hydraulic clutches a pain to bleed, even with pressure bleeding. Some good advice in other replies below. Good luck with it
Pump that pedal she will come back
I had the same problem with the clutch. After 5 min pumping it came back for me :) Good luck .
I hope you were smiling bigger than I was (when you changed the plugs and coil packs). That engine sounds amazing Dean. Well done mate..!!!
Dean your rebuild sounds lovely. Hopefully the gear issue is a easy fix with a fresh head👍
Reverse bleeding from a brake caliper always works for me, so your pressing the brake pedal with a pipe from the caliper to the clutch slave, pushes any air out the other way. Works every time..
I wondered if it shared the system with the brakes and needs them all doing?
patients are a virtue my friend. I am loving this. Sounds AWSOME
Had a similar problem after fitting an engine in a mitsi evo, there was an adjuster on the pedal, it had to be backed off whilst the clutch was bled, then adjusted back up, worth a look
Loving this build, engine sounds good. Fingers crossed for an easy fix for the clutch.
clutches on these are a prick to bleed out, i done it like a bikes brakes. bleed til you have zero air coming out via the open nipple, press, close nipple, pedal up, then a few good pump ups and then hold pedal down and open nipple and close quick, do that a few times then on the last time wedge the pedal down and leave it overnight with the cap off, then in morning, release it and pump it good (not bleed, just pump)
Yes Dean! You never cease to amaze, great to watch all your hard work, I wish I could wield the spanners half as good as you! This build looked like a mountain to climb! Well done. 🤩
Patience and persistence Dean , your get there. I always have a issue or two with my V8 RS4 B7. Currently chasing a rich running issue…….
You sounded really down....you are an amazing aspiration for others . No doubt you will have it all sorted by the next vid. Makes everyone wanna watch it more !
Great job again Dean!! Just be patient with the clutch, you will fix that too!
Best R8 video on the web . Edge of the seat stuff. Thanks .
i had the same problem on my scirocco so i readjusted the shiftercabellinks and it worked. don`t forget to lock the shiftertower and gear lever in neutral position. hope it works
Oh bloody hell Dean that engine sounds sweet it might be something simple 👍
Sounds great 😍😍good luck with the clutch 🙏🙏
Take the pipe to someone like Pirtek, they can make just about anything, often using the ends of what you already have and replacing the actual line in the middle, including metal braiding/heat sheilding etc. They specialise in making hydraulic lines and have all the humongous crimp tool machines needed, a lot cheaper than £750! They have branches all over the country.
Love your work Dean, keep it up mate, you’ll work it out. Celebrate your victories mate, it’s gone from destroyed to sounding absolutely amazing. Thumbs up mate.
I am sure you will get it sorted, great work as always. 👍👍👍👍👍
Engine sounds good and behaving well, hopefully clutch is easily sorted. Working engine off but not, on must point to a specific cause
Love the project. So sorry the clutch seems knackered. Love your videos, watched for ages, you are a grafter and impart knowledge.
It sounds fine Dean but..there's a lot of smoke/condensation coming from that right cylinder bank..
The best channel on CZcams 👍outstanding dean quality 👍
Liked for the Smoke ring at 14:26(by the rear chassis bumper mounting arm!)
Excellent content, keep it coming always looking forward to the videos 😎
I guess you can't vacuum bleed that clutch system. The Master cylinder probably has air in it....That RH bank is a bit smokey still....Great video though matey, exciting stuff...🤔😳😳😏😀🇬🇧
Yeah it probably will be Smokey until it gets up to temp to burn the oil off in the cat
@@SavingSalvage Ah, I see the C ats are installed?....I didn't realise...That would explain the sporadic smoking....🤔😏😏😏😀🇬🇧
Been watching your videos for a while now. Have to say kudos to you for some of the jobs you take on
Engine sounds sweet! Read the service manual re clutch bleeding; in my TT you have to pressure bleed all the old fluid plus 250ml, close the bleed, press the clutch repeatedly and quickly 15-20 times and immediately bleed another 100ml. When I did it the first time I didn't have enough fluid in the pressure bleeder and it took air in, took a couple of times to make it work.
Compress the clutch pedal over night
Sounds great. I feel your pain with the clutch, but you will get there 👍👍
That sounds like a WW2 Spitfire Merlin engine 😅 cracking! Hope you resolve the clutch issue
Definitively my favourite car, you’ve worked on !! Can’t wait to see it roar down the motorway 👍🤞
Please check sleve and master cylinder for the clutch for any defect before pulling gearbox out
Enjoy your vlogs keep em coming
I thought the right exhaust looks a bit smokey? hope it's nothing, good luck with the clutch.
Wow that sounds sweet hope you get clutch sorted without removing the gearbox 🤞🤞
Sounds awesome 🤩
Great job Dean!
You have to pump the clutch pedal to create pressure there, then crack open the bleeding nipple for a short time.
What I like about all your content Dean is you approach all your jobs big or small just like any one of us watching might. Your not being flash or throwing money at jobs and new parts to guarantee results.
It’s proper mechanics - or organic mechanics. Not like a Main dealer tech ‘fitter’ but actually working problems fault finding and finding the fix through proper process of elimination. What you do and show is invaluable - mint mate keep em coming!
I had a similar problem on my old Ford Focus. It took using the pressure bleeder and pumping the pedal to finally shift whatever pocket of air was in the system. Worth a shot 😉
Dean i feel so bad for you with that R8. That Car will end up driving you pure mad. But the best of luck with it. You have other beautiful Cars too work on. I cant wait too see them. Especially the white BMW. Keep it up Dean your a Legend. 😊😊
Amazing work 👍
Hey Dean, I love your channel and project, keep up the great work.
I just wonder, will you ever to the 2nd half of your workshop improvement (floor painting ect...)?
Proper nice job 👍 sounds like a beast 😊
Love your channel, I can admire your determination and hard work . As a diy non expert tinkerer myself you give inspiration for me to attempt the bigger jobs , also must be difficult to film and work on the cars by yourself, keep up the great work 👍
Sounds lovely 👍👍
Good job lots of hard work
Well done mate nearly there
Small wins. Great content
I’ve been waiting so long to see if the beast runs again, brilliant mate it’s a project 99.9% would never touch. 🙈
Sounds beautiful 👊👊👊
Gday Dean,
I’ve been looking forward to this mate. Top effort, she sounds great. You’ll get there. As I always say, “ If it was easy, everyone would be doing it”.
Cheers 🍻
Great video keep going 👍
friggin sweet😀great job dean👍
Feel your pain re clutch but great work on the engine sounds awesome
We sincerely hope that box don’t have to come out again dean 🤞on a plus note its idling very smooth 👍
AN fittings, and hoses, is the best all around choice, for everything when it comes to oil hoses and other plumbing :)
Love your videos, completely realistic, once done that will be a baller!
You probably did this ,but you did reverse bleed the clutch , removes air by injecting fresh fluid through the bleeder valve.
Best video so far !
Frustrating, but I’m sure you’ll get there Dean. Great vids keep them coming.
Good work Dean
Already looking forward to the next video.
Keep go keep go , never give up !
What a sound! 😊
Fingers crossed Dean. My first experience of bleeding a clutch was my old MR2, was warned not to let it go dry but the fluid reservoir was filthy after 15 years and I wanted to change the slave cylinder too. Took several bleed attempts and ultimately leaving it overnight but got there in the end
Oh goodie, someone else’s mechanical misery to enjoy……rather than working on my own 😂
😂
Chin up matey, like others have said it'll be the clutch needing bleeding some more.
Well done. Congrats. First start up you couldn't see smoke from the left exhaust. After spark plugs change the left bank was running well and than the right bank suddenly start smoking heavily?
Matt Armstrong adjusted the pedal on his murcielago to get his clutch to work. Worth a look.
The plugs to the coil packs are sometimes hard to get fully in. Try pushing them out with a screwdriver. If that works, they were not locked and may have caused an open circuit.
i think its the acuator needs adjusting, can see it moving in the back 19:38 should be able to tighen the little bolt to bring it in a bit more so will engage, also when the engine is running pump the clutch for around 5 mins, will make your leg ache but its a free workout, had same issue before also
For all bleeding and especially when I have fitted new components I use vacuum bleeding, has several advantages not least of which is being able to do it on your own! Pump up some vacuum, release bleed nipple, watch all the bubbles etc, tighten and repeat. It's the only way, especially with certain assisted and ABS type systems.
Great video but unfortunately the clutch says not on this way, like you said it so frustration that after all the proper work things not going as expecting.....that ,s life they say but it can take the fun away...stay posit-if and fingers cross that it will all became oke again. Engine running perfect !!
Here you go, a like for good luck mate!
Enjoying this build so far
next time mate. good job so far. running stable now
Engine sounds amazing! I’m very impressed (and also horrified) at how labyrinthine the wiring harness, coolant lines, and accessories are. So messy, I’m surprised that such a complex Rube Goldberg design actually works. I suppose it works because it’s an incremental accumulation of complexity over decades of automotive design, but still.
Why don’t you clean the parts and engine bay while you had it all apart. Easier to find leaks and looks so much nicer. Amazing what difference a bit of brake cleaner would do.
I noticed the same thing, especially regarding the oil reservoir.
It's like giving a Tin of WD40 to a Machinist
Looks busy attending to a Squeaky Shopping trolley but the Fault still remains 😂😂
I mean, a lot of the stuff is just corroded more than actually dirty, like all the oil pans and whatnot.
You get covered in crap taking it apart, why get covered in crap putting it back together?
Totally agree drives me crazy when these guys like Dean and Mat Armstrong rebuild cars and put them back together without cleaning anything.🤬🤬 Unlike Stretan from M535 who is obsessive about cleaning he even cleans wheel arch liners. 🤣🤣
The clutch just still has air in the hydraulic system. Just put an easy bleeder on it, bleed it a few times and you will have a clutch pedal 👍🏻 I’ve done hundreds of clutches and every now and again you get that one that doesn’t want to loose the air out via manual bleeding. Or if you don’t have one pump the pedal around 10 times and then keep it depressed and open the bleed nipple and repeat untill you get the trapped air out and have full pedal
Far braver than me! The V8 sounds so epic 😎 hopefully it's an easy clutch fix.
Great work Dean. Frustrating I am sure but excellent progress. Is there any mechanical adjustment of the clutch pedal that might help fix the clutch problem ?
It wouldn't be you if there wasn't another problem to sort 😂 Really happy for you that the engine came together finally and sounds sweet.
Perhaps it'd be better to pressure bleed the clutch, thos might get the remainder of the air out.
Sounds lovely, although there's a lot of Blue smoke out of the right hand exhaust?
Somebody else probably mentioned this in the comments, but you may need to "bench bleed" the master cylinder. I had a similar problem with my Noble M400 after a complete rebuild. There was a surprising amount of air trapped in the master cylinder.
My respect!
I've needed to let a clutch bleed by leaving it overnight for the fluid to run through the system. That was a Vauxhall van though! Tried pressure bleeding and it didn't make any difference. Keep the faith, you'll get there.
Chain guide? Maybe the oil tensor just needs pressurising ?
The ticking noise that is 😂
The noise went away after I topped the oil up, so it was probably that 😂
Smokin’ Joe!
Hope it goes all well
matt armstrong had a similar issue with his clutch on his lambo. found the pedal needed to be adjusted to get the travel to engage properly. maybe worth looking to see if there is any adjustment on the pedal.
Engine sounds sweet, good job!
Just a bit worried on that right bank smoking like that? Surely all oil from before should have been burnt by now?
Have to say the complexity of that thing is terrifying, I know all modern cars are covered in sensors and wiring but that's a whole new level!!! Awesome cars but I would be scared shitless if I had one without a warranty 😀
That light weight seat its really nice.
😁
These can be an absolute see you next Tuesday to bleed the Clutch on don't rush to pull the box out, Pressure Bleed from both directions and.pedal down overnight has proven successful for me in the past.
I would get someone to pump the clutch pedal up and down while you watch the pipe until it's only solid fluid coming out with reservoir pressurised not to much 10 psi max and only open bleed screw tiny bit so it cant draw it all back in
Thumbsup great entertainment
Try adjusting the clutch pedal out a little bit more 👍🏻
Mine makes some rattling as well, and I read that several of people has this sound and it shouldnt be any problems.
