Which bit of hot tech do you like the best from this year's TDU? ⚙
Rim brakes on my cousin’s 2015 super six evo!
I like the new designs
Alec's hat with the Arkansas patch on it...
The Blue skies and sunshine...........even though I live in Australia......😁
We are at a point where bike tech has plateaued. New products offer very little for what they cost and for the most part they feel like cosmetic changes. IMO, unless the UCI revises the current regulations, cycling as a sport will be at the risk of stalling because right now there's very little room left for improvement.
That titanium/carbon bike in the beginning is just sick!!!
You've unlocked dreamy bike territory!
Thanks for coming to the TDU Alex. It was a little thrill to bump into you. I was the guy that said 'Alex you're famous!' 😎
Thanks for saying hi! Sounds like Alex had a blast 🙌What did you make of this years tech?
@@gcntech actually, I was most interested in 'Teschner' a small Aussie custom carbon frame builder. Custom sub 800g frames for about the same price as many of the big brands and much less than many. Talking to the owner Peter was really educational.
I have some aussie made Teschner but the carbon ones are made in Asia like everything else in 2024. @@byrondixon4648
Best bit of 'Tech" I tried in the tour village ... headed across to the health zone and tried an Ice Bath.
On the days it was nudging 30 degrees + celcius it made me feel human again. The team cooling vests looked most inviting too.
that sounds the perfect way to cool down!
Awesome video and Team bike analysis,Jumbo Visma's bike does it for me.💯👌🏻
Thanks Constantine and crew...rocking the Birkenstocks ? Be well !
It was great that Ollie finally told us this guy's name, Constantine. 😀
The cannondale bike is amazing
That paint job is just... 👌
for me this time round it's frame design & materials used, frell man this year's bikes are looking incredible
Lots of titanium. Cool!
Pillar Performance is legit stuff. I use it about 1-1.5hrs before bed, and I’m out like a light.
That 56 tooth chain ring is GIANT.
Big gear that! ⚙🤯
The mechanics are used to using heavy degreaser after every stage. And oil just falls of using it. And there are pretty good options on the oil side too. And in the wet i think a wet oil is superiour.
I find waxing good for the regular consumer that doesn't wash his bike everyday, like me 😅
In the wet oil is only superior on long rides. As soon as the wax uses off, its not possible to rewax with a drip on wax, as the chain has to be dry for the wax to stick. But I did 150k-180k rides in pouring rain on a hot waxed chain without a problem. A candle will not dissolve in water either ;) Just wipe it off afterwards, rewax and youre good to go again. However on ultra endurance races, where i expect rain even just once, i put my oil chain on from the beginning with the one and only silca synergetic. Seems to run quiet forever!
As i said i use wax. But i can see why some teams use oil 😅
Nix shrimps, in Oz they're prawns no matter what Crocodile Dungheap calls them.
Such cool tech! Alex, you did a great job with this video. Also, I have to say, all of your videos have gotten noticeably better in the past month or so. It seems like you guys may have a little more say now in regard to what you're making videos on and how you're producing them? (As opposed to having to hone in on what your corporate parent company wants or something like that). Whatever it is, the difference is noticeable, and I'm loving it. Keep it up!
Hi! Thanks for the kind words 🙌We're always looking for ways to improve! It's great to hear it's paying off!
Thank you Alex, GCN rocks
Beautiful bikes! I can see myself watching this video over and over to please my eyes :)
It's pure NSFW bike pr0n!
Any favourites?
@@gcntechFACTOR Ostro VAM!!
I see you rocking the Oz Arkansas Trails hat. Very nice. 90 minutes from me.
Grab a cold can of coopers is the best thing I’ve ever heard on GCN. Yes sir
When in Rome 😂
Great video. Keep up the great work!
thanks!
The Giant Propel is awesome, but the grey seat tube is a definite miss and ruins what would be an incredible paint job. It's early in the season, still time to change paint jobs as they put out more bikes.
Great video Alex 👍
Good stuff Alex!
I want to ride all the bikes. Great video 🙌🏻
The paint job of the Human Powered Health team bike looks so hot. Also interesting: I think I have heard the changes they did to the Factor Ostro before. If I had to guess I‘d say Factor and Cannondale come from the same factory.
Factor actually has their own factory. No connection to Cannondale which is owned by Dorel and the frames are actually made by Martec.
@@BoomerangerCannondale is now owned by Pon Holding, a Dutch company
Pon seems to be buying everything.@@alethearobinson8132
2:34 speaking of F1, you might need to pay attention during the next Grand Prix of Australia on how Melbourne is pronounced 😉
Nice little holiday for Paton ☀️👙
39x30 = 35.1 gear inches, 44x34 = 34.9 gear inches, 52x11 = 127.6 gear inches, 54x11 = 137.5 gear inches. So, basically, a way bigger gear for the flat bits, but retaining essentially the same lowest gear for the steep bits. Gaining the 'efficiency of larger cogs' overall as well. Yes? #askGCNTech
Great vid Alex I’m really interested to see how the Van Rysel does in racing I think they done a great job 😊 not keen on the Willier paint job.. much prefer the Cannondale 😊 Pete 🚴🏻😃👍
It's going to be super cool to see the Van Rysel get smashed around the world tour! 🙌 There are two people in the world - Willier paint job or Cannondale paint job 😂
Someone asked: Why so many cool paint jobs this year?
Answer: bike technology has plateaued! The cutting edge is now . . . PAINT!
There is always a space for new paint jobs... no matter how crazy the tech gets 🙌
Interesting that they are going to bigger chain rings, I guess it gives them more flexibility!
The lack of big climbs will also impact this choice 🏔
Cannondale, Cervelo, Colnago - the best!)
wow! wow! wow! what beauties!!! 👍😁
It was the first time I've seen a chain dropper.
More Wax Chain Patrol!! Alex
Some great tech on display. What was the name of the Carbon/Ti frame builders at the start of the vid?🤔
Prova Cycles
For anyone interested to know about the brand behind the titanium bike - it's Prova Cycles
What, no shadow stand? Just a nice 😂
Love those Ekoi silver shoes! Who needs a fancy paint job when you're wearing those?
John Travolta would love to have those! 🕺
Best bike paint job 2024 goes to Tour de Tietema very nice what they have done
What will be Campagnolo's marketing strategy, now that they are out of the World Tour? Pass the savings of sponsorship back on to the consumer, with lower prices? I'm a Campy fan but it is sad to see that they have abandoned the highest level of pro cycling racing.
I just hate the thought of Campy going away.
I think the most important and revolutionary bike tech was presented just briefly - at 0:10 . 😂👍
The rest: nothing I'd spend money for. 🤷♂️
2:35 Alex, is that a 3-D clone of you in the background?🤭🤭🤭
Nice Ozark hat.
You're bringing back swag from the tour down under that we can win, yes?
time to load up the suitcases Alex!
What’s the small pink box on the Cannondale fork?
A race timing chip??
Wouldn’t the higher number of ratchets (pawls) in the free hub increase the resistance when coasting (slowing you down)?
I would say so.....also more noise = more frictional losses
sounds like we need to do some science!
gday alex- love the coopers shoutout!
in future the second vowel sound in Melbourne is less of an "or" and more of a very lazy and neutral "uh" like "I went to 'the' bike race".
will earn you big time local points I can guarantee
Mel-buhrn, right?
@@gcntech Pretty good! keep that r as silent as possible and you're in business :)
Ordered a filante, was really excited, it never showed up.
Them Ekoi shoes are definitely for Si😂
I feel like in these days, tech in the bike industry is like science in medicine
The Willier just needs a black stem imo
Gotta love the way Brit’s pronounce Melbourne 😂🙌
Mel born
It seems Campag's latest Super Record electronic iteration has proved a total fizzer, with no team electing to go for it in preference to Sram or Shimano.
I'd expected to see some more advances of 1by cranksets
Ok, I'm a guy. But I'm jealous of the girls' color scheme from Factor for the Vam. That is sweet looking!
Cool F1 tyre and wheel, its from the era when F1 used 13" wheels and tyres.
mmmm coopers - good taste
6:03 How are we supposed to "spot the tourist" if you don't wear socks with your sandals!? 😛
the sandals, and not wearing slides/thongs give it away? 🤔😂
Curious if we are going to see a new Trinity from Giant soon. They have removed it from their USA website.
👀
Hey Alex, thake some Coopers Vintage back for Dan. Will have a friend for life.
Van Rysel won't be the people's bike as suggested as it won't be available in most Decathlon regions outside of UK and France. Already got correspondence from Decathlon since I wanted one in Australia.
Lets go with a 60 because that's what comes standard ? Come on Alex don't piss on my leg 🤣
@10:51 isn't that the fake Lab71...a lower tier bike that Cannondale, for whatever odd reason, is trying to pass as a Lab71 ?? Cool paint but odd back story.
Titanium and steel ❤
Dream bike material! What would you choose?
@@gcntech I own a modern steel hardtail so I wouldn’t mind a titanium road/gravel bike ahah. Maybe one day 😉
Sure that there was absolutely no bike with the new SRAM Red groupset?
I got into cycle racing big time last year due to GCN+. I live in the US and cannot find the races online. Anyone have any suggestions?
hi, hopefully this page can help out > gcn.eu/az3 cheers!
TBH, with clean streets like these and hot temperatures I would also stick to oil-based lube…
Thats prawns ,no shrimps down under
Should have gotten Durianrider on the show since he speaks so highly of yiu guys 😅
Ollie ain’t going to cope well if the pro teams go back to oil !! 😂
He has cold sweats already
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
all the stuff you never knew you needed !!?? 🤣
All these Bikes will be forgotten over two Years.
no Campy :(
Doesn't Specialized get enough coverage? Remember, the public is supposed to be able to buy this stuff in 6mos. . .
Those shiny shoes might actually be helpful in australia due to the brutal sun. Except for special engineered paint like barium sulfate/calcium carbonate microspheres, an aluminium foil covered, but still breathable, shoe might reflect light as well as effectively transport heat from inside the shoe outside.
I wonder though, why are there no cycling shoes with special frontal air intakes like ICE race cars. Do pro-cyclists sweat very little or are the little holes on the side enough and do not impact aerodynamics too much?
I reckon I had a pair of Shimano shoes years ago that had a vent under the sole. It gave a noticeable breeze on the toes while riding quick enough. Not so great in the cold/wet!
There have been a few shoes over the years with mesh at the front, but when the temperature drops... ☃
@@gcntech Probably not right for the UK, but areas closer to the equator might benefit
Careful, before we know it shoe companies will be convincing us to buy summer, winter and shoulder-season shoes 😄
Cannondale stand, paint by Dr Bobby 🤔 you sure its not by Dr Bobby !!!
I think it’s a sad day to see campag gone from the tour 😢
Oh factor made a giant propel 🤷
So that's how you pronounce Miche. Mee-Kay. I've always pronounced it like "Mitch" without the T. LOL.
The more you know 🙌
We don't put shrimps on the barbie, mate
Moving the battery down the seat tube is said to improve handling - more marketing BS. There's 60kg plus sat up on the saddle! Do they think we're stupid?
Yes, they do! Unfortunately, sometimes they are proved right. I see people on €10000 bikes who can't steer or ride at 30km an hour for more than 5 minutes. It makes me sad.
Why pro teams use only bigger front gear size!! What about rear cassette ? Shimano has 11. Why don’t use 10 or 8?
Always interesting to see all the trends that we have absolutely no use for. Well maybe some of the colours can come on more affordable bikes that mostly look drab.
What are those on your trotters!?!?
This is Australia Alex... Australia Alex has style 😎
what's the bulge on the outside of the fork at 11:15?
wow! the bikes all look the same!
It's Van "Risel" not "Raisel" 😉
What the heck you all about waxed chain. Its bloody loud and not smooth as proper lube. Yep, great for long time use but when the bike is washed daily proper lube is proper lube.
none, where are the rim brake bikes ?
Chain ring sizes mean f*ck all. Power means f*ck all. The only things that count are efficiency, speed and strategy ie. winning.
11:34 gets a chance to review the most iconic bike of recent times. …. Talks about waxing chains…..
ENVE tyres?????
Good old oil on the chains - Hell yer ! Give the bike mechanics a break. These modern integrated bikes are a nightmare to do a routine service on nowadays. They might save a rider a couple of seconds but the poor tech guys are burning the midnight oil in the back of the truck.
Your World Tour tech reports are always the best. Head and shoulders above those two elist snobs Miller and Coyle. Also I think the Cervelo is the most gimmicky POS in the tour.
Shrimp on the barbie, rather prawn on the barbie gcn.
Never had Coopers in a can either, always a stubbie (and prefer steak and snags)
Only because that iconic advertisement was made for Americans. We call ‘em prawns in Australia…

Does not seem like cannondale is updating their bikes Is paint job yes, But other than that I see no difference in their bikes in the last few years.
sliding in a couple deep cut jokes. i see u
Im not a big fan of these colorful paint schemes at all. I prefer monochrome.
The motorcycles were the cheapest bikes there.
