    Just wanted to post my experience here. I purchased this item for $299 on the black Friday deal. Shipping and everything went fine, item came form Hong Kong. I work in IT and am always leery of setting up accounts with some of these devices given the news. Given this, I setup a separate Gmail account just for my GMC, and got everything setup. Works just like in the video, except... 1 - lots of video and audio lag for CZcams app 2 - within 4 hours of setting up this new account and connecting the device to wifi I was getting Google alerts on foreign account activity and my account trying to be accessed outside of my MFA settings. Overall, given the video/audio issues, the lack of native app download (Netflix, Disney Plus, etc) and that my account was almost immediately comprised I'm sending this item back and do not trust this device or company at all. I love this channel, but this product let me know down.

      Thank you for the feedback, hopefully the company reads this. As you know, I just reviewed the device's features, which seemed to mostly work. I hope I haven't lost your trust. I have been using mine for the OBD2 scanning benefit. Good precaution setting up a new email to isolate the device to one account. Fortunately I haven't had any attempted compromises and my MFA's are in place.

      @@Donslife Hopefully this was just on my account! The OBD2 would be a good feature, I had one of those installed on my old land rover and really helped with monitoring temps on those rough engines. For sure have not lost my trust in you or the channel, I hope that came through in the original post on how much I love this channel. It is one of the reasons I bought my AT4. Keep up the great work! Hey brother first I want to say your channel is awesome.
    This is a great product, the only issue I am having with mine is the following. It works perfect for the first 2 days - 3 days of it being plugged in. After that it stops working (shows no internet when I connect to any WiFi) . I have a 2020 GMC Sierra Denali . I have bought WiFi for my truck and I plugged the box in the USB port that is under my arm rest. After 2 day the box is connected to a WiFi but says no connection or internet. The box says that is connected but no WiFi. At first I thought it was my WiFi not working. But that wasn’t it, because the truck WiFi works on my phone. I hit my Onstar button so they can trouble shoot it. But the button didn’t work and onstar was not working. So I called onstar through my cell phone. They showed me how to reset the my onstar by disconnecting any usb connected and leaving my driver door open for three minutes, which then resets the whole onstar system. After that I connected the box unit and it worked again. But after two days same thing happen every time I connect the unit . Have you experienced this issue?? I was thinking maybe if I connect the box directly where you connected yours to the usb under the factory radio? I have been connecting mine directly to the one under my arm rest. If you can give me some advice I greatly appreciate it.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety

      Can’t say I have. Maybe try to port at the front like you’re suggesting. Or just plug the box in when you go to use it for the day?

    UPDATE : 2 commonly asked questions I have looked into:
    Will it work with an aftermarket stereo? NO - The main infotainment unit must include a Genuine Apply CarPlay Integrated Circuit Chip (Licensed). OEM units include these chips. Aftermarket infotainment units likely DO NOT contain 'Genuine' Apple CarPlay IC Chips (Or contain unlicensed 'cracked' versions).
    Why are similar or even identical looking products available for less money on various sights? - The molds can be sold to any manufacturer but the raw materials, chips, R&D, etc can vary. Also who you are purchasing from and their 'after sales service' can be an important consideration.

    If you insert a SIM into the box itself with the box act like a hotspot? I'm debating whether it's worth getting another phone plan or just keeping my data plan loaded with OnStar. Mine should be coming today based on your review, looking forward to playing around with it. It will be so nice when manufacturers switch to Android/Apple head units as the default instead of their crappy nav, infotainment systems.

    The box obviously needs a data connection to work so when you say pair it with your phone are you referring to Bluetooth, or do you need to turn your phone into a wireless hotspot. Because this sounds like at minimum we would need some type of data plan for this to function properly.

    • @Donslife

      Depending on the app you’re using you could use wifi or your hotspot. I said pair but meant share your phones hotspot. You could put media on the microSD ahead of time like I did with Netflix too. Depending on where you live, you could buy a nanosim with prepaid data and run the unit off of it too. Depending on what you want to do, yes having a data plan or wifi will be beneficial. I like that the media apps like Disney + and Netflix let you download to watch offline. I see people doing that while near their home wifi and only sharing their phones hotspot when they need or want to.

Luckily my truck is high resolution. My wife’s 6yr old Escalade is a little lower resolution but it works fine. I suggest going or reaching out to OneCarStereo to confirm compatibility. No problem. To work it has to connect to your vehicle with a cable. The cable communicates with your vehicle using Apple CarPlay ‘wired’ protocols. Then after that, this box (and the lite version) can wirelessly connect to your phone via CarPlay or Android Auto. I did a review on a cheaper version box and if you only want CZcams or Netflix, it can save you money and is less complicated. However it can’t be customized or have some apps added.

Its safe to say that although our vehicles come with wireless carplay and auto, as long as one of our many plugs (type c, b, USB, etc.) allows for carplay to be utilized, this product should work. Don's truck (like mine) has wireless carplay and auto and he was still able to utilize this product flawlessly. I'm in checkout now and ordering it as I take another look at this video. 🤣😂

    Don- 2020 Sierra AT4 and enjoy your channel. Picked the AI Box up for Christmas and like the additional features it provides through the factory head unit. 2-questions maybe you can answer...1- Mine fails to connect every once in a while. Have to shut off truck, open door and restart to get it to connect. Does yours do that and any idea what's causing? 2- My netflix app disappeared and its not in the app store? is that no longer available? 3- When i connect to wifi with my phone in the truck, it will automatically disconnect wifi and re-connect to my phone after a few seconds. How do I prevent that from happening? Thanks

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety

      Hi There! I am glad you enjoy the channel. Tech reviews are sometimes tough for me to provide accurate troubleshooting, but I have at least 1 or 2 suggestions for you. For Netflix to disappear, it means you probably went to the Google play store before using the app and the store realized that Netflix shouldn't be on the device and wiped it. Good news is, CZcams and Netflix will reappear if you do a factory reset. This could potentially help with intermittent wifi connectivity. If not, power down of your phone or even network setting reset might help. The last one is annoying since you'd have to punch in all of your wifi passwords you may use. Personally I have been using mine for OBD2 scanning and when I park near the house, I might download the odd thing.
      I logged into Netflix and started using it before going to the google play store. You can load it back on, but it is a little more complicated than just resetting the box. I made a video on how to install Disney+ and it works the same for Netflix, but that stuff changes so fast. You will always have Netflix if you reset the box

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety

      I haven’t tested it, but it would be dependent on installing the right APP. The android box would need an app side-loaded for the iPhone to think the box is compatible to mirror the screen. Hi Jonathan, welcome to the channel! From time to time I review products (sometimes samples are sent to me, sometimes I purchase them). I almost always leave links in the video description too. There is a link for the Android AI box in this video's description. It comes shipped to you with Netflix and CZcams already working, but you need to use WIFI, Hotspot with you phone or install a SIM card with a data plan. Many people mistakenly go to Google Play Store and start updating Netflix and then it disappears. This is because Netflix isn't supposed to be on a device like this for some obvious reasons. You can restore the box at anytime to factory settings and Netflix will return. You have to plug in the box to one of your USB ports. I recommend one of your USB C ports which you should have. OneCarStereo.com will offer tech support to people who make the purchase from them, so please contact them if you run into technical challenges. I don't really use mine for Netflix, instead I use it for my Bluetooth OBD2 scanner and Bluetooth Switches - I don't have to pull out my phone!

      You can connect it inside the console storage area. If you want to add apps, go with one that isn’t a ‘Lite’ version. 2022 yukon, do I need a data plan? is it a wired car play? not sure where to start

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před rokem

      it uses the wired carplay connection to communicate with your infotainment system. After it makes the connection, you can use it how you choose to. If you want to stream , then you need data from onstar, wifi or hotspot with your phone. If you download media to a micro SD to play via a media player (VLC), you won't need data for streaming. They make a 'Lite' version to that is less customizable and less complicated too that might be a good option.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety +2

      Here are some tips:
      You don’t charge it! It stays plugged into the USB port of the vehicle. The box uses power while the truck is turned on and shuts off when the USB port shuts down
      The MicroSD is not needed unless you want to download media to watch in an app like VLC or Netflix shows you decided to save.
      You don’t need a SIM card unless you want to have a connection to the internet. You can also use your phone’s hotspot as data if you like.
