How to Get Apple Car Play on Your Stock Headunit

- With Apple Car Play and Android Auto now becoming pretty standard on newer vehicles, it isn’t shocking to see them also be available on aftermarket head units for older vehicles. At the same time, if you don’t like the look of an aftermarket head unit but still want the amazing Car Play features, there is now a solution! 🙌
This piggy back module hooks up in between your factory radio and screen. You can select which software you’d like to use on the fly, either factory or Car Play with a press of a button. You must obviously have an Apple or Android phone to make use of these awesome features, but it works wirelessly where they are typically wired-only.
The company that supplies these modules is Nifty City. They have both a basic and advanced version of this piggy back system. They both have wireless Apple Car play, however the advanced module has more features and better hardware in addition to that. The advanced module has additional apps that do not require your phone, but do require those extra antennas to be connected (Waze, CZcams, Netflix, Google Chrome & Playstore, Split Display, etc). If anyone has a static filled audio, it’s due to the aux to usb converter supplied with it, try using an aux(female) to rca cable (red, white av cables) and plug it into the center console.
Works flawlessly and you get a lot more volume as well.
Hi, Why not just load up a usb pen drive with mp3 or mp4 or avi's and plug it into the cars usb under centre console lid ..works fine in my std 2010 Fairlady Z
For the asking price, why would someone want to work around to destatic the adapter? For that price, an aftermarket headunit would improve the sound, and if I need to open everything as if I was changing the radio. I would get a aftermarket with CarPlay in the first place the 10 inch Sony, Alpine, etc, radios run somewhere around $1,100. This shouldn’t have anything interfering with the experience, especially because it is wired into the rear of the factory setup.
Do you know if this works for g37 models with only 1 USB hook up and no audio in inside the armrest storage?
Nissan and Infiniti have always been behind the times with their radios, don't get me wrong, the sound is amazing, but last year (2020) was the first time they came out with apple car play android as options. The difficulty with replacing the radios in some of their older cars is the heater/aircon controls are integrated with the radio making it very difficult to replace. My 2006 G35 didn't even come with an aux hookup and I opted for a piggyback setup to keep the factory radio.
I kept building the Z and the 240SX end of year. Interesting, different. Have a good year my friend.
Quick question about the iphone charger you have coming out of the knee pad, what exactly is that for / connected to? Also, is the cable that comes through your parking brake a mandatory thing to be plugged into the center console?

If you adjust the climate control while in carplay, what happens? Also does the native reverse camera work with the basic module?

Hello. Thank you for the video. Will this installation void any warranty that comes with the Infiniti QX80? For my clarification, the Android Auto/Car play system does not need any external speakers, the system will use the original bluetooth/audio system that comes with the QX80, correct?

Thanks for the video. I see that you have to connect the factory USB to the new device's audio out port. Do you lose the ability to control an audio device like an old school ipod through USB?
Ordered advanced module for my 370z, waiting to come in March. Thanks for a great instructions, I will go by your instructions once I start with the installation. Couple of questions : 1) How is the sound on the speakers (any better than stock Bose), is there amplifier component as well integrated into the unit or is it using amplifier from the head unit? 2) What is the Car app doing (showing some info) I can see it is loaded in your screen. 3) It would be nice to integrate it with some dashcam as well, if someone has experience with that, please share.

4. Is it easy to shift between the OEM screen and the Android/Car Play screen?
5. Is it not draining your car battery when the car is not used for few days? Reason I asked, my observant eyes noticed red flashing LED at 10:34, 11:54 and 12:10 from the module as soon as you plugged in the power harness even the ACC/Ignition is not turned on yet. I got the impression that the module gets continuous power from the battery, I wonder if it doesn't get hot in the long run even when not in use and I'm concerned about battery drain if I have to get this one for my Armada.

The red led is just receiving power, but it’s signaling low power mode

Looks cool, but I first need to know whether this product will actually fill my entire screen. The W213 Mercedes show Android Auto in an annoying/ smaller box that doesn't even fill the whole screen, despite the screen very likely being capable of handling full screen. So will this adapter successfully use the full screen? I have a 2018 E400 with the stock android auto.

I did your same install but now I cannot see the reverse gridlines and the sonar icons when reversing. I still hear the sensors but I do not see them. Any ideas?

Cam across this video for my stepfather to see what he can get for his Murano. CarABC makes the exact same box for Toyota for $200, the price gauge on this box is crazy and you mines as well get a new radio that would still be cheaper.
Thanks for a great video! I ordered my kit with wireless car play but actually like using the wired car play and this system lets you turn off the wireless. OEM wireless car play does not do that. Very impressive system!

A great after market stereo will be $500 and up, a great amplifier, like an audiocontrol LC4.800 four channel is $569, a great set of component speakers, like Focal PS 165fxe will be $649 or $1298 for two sets, a great sub, like a JLAudio 12W7 is $1,049, and a great sub amplifier, like an audiocontrol LC 1500 is $769, for a total of $4,185. And that does not include rca’s and power wires.

@@cali_cal 360 camera with aftermarket stuff would come to be tricky stuff. Luckily they sell bolt on android which will replace whole center dash, including climate control with Tesla-like touchscreen.

But if it’s Bluetooth couldn’t you just leave it mounted behind the dash panels? Or am I missing something? I’m going to install mine this weekend so hopefully you see this! Lol

Hey milanmastracci, after I saw your Video of this Nifty City System I decided to buy it, even it is not cheap. After some little Problems at German Customs I finally had it in my Hands and want install myself, which I sure could do, but dont want to make Holes for the Cables in Car maybe at the wrong Spot, so I let install the System a Professional, after I had 1000s of Questions to Nifty City that we do not do any Mistakes and btw the Nifty City Service is First Class and very responsive friendly Helpful.
BUT....... the Result is really like you say in your Review on here KILLER , wow I did not expect something like that in my 370Z after I had a BMW with a OEM Apple Carplay which is not better at all then this Nifty City System on here and I can tell everybody who is a Technic and a Petrol Head that it is worth every single Cent. Ones again thnx for ur good expaining on here.

I installed mine a couple of weeks ago on a 2011 G37 but my iPhone Xs often disconnects from the Grom Apple CarPlay. Maybe I’ll have to try this one but it’s more expensive.

Only thing car play is good for is navigation. But the Z is heavily dated doesnt matter how new the car is its not modern at all so might be worth it

So this likely isn't compatible with an 09 Z, which doesn't have USB in the center console but instead a proprietary Apple iPod 30 pin connector. Ugh wish I had gotten a 2010 Sport model without the touring package. Or I wish Nissan didn't make it nearly impossible to replace the nav units with a double DIN unit...
