    I'm a total n00b to 3d printing, and spent ages researching which printer to get. What a minefield! 😩 A few people said this one is decent, and I decided I just needed to jump in otherwise I'd never buy one! Took delivery of the V3 SE today and just did my first ever 3d print of the cat that comes with it on the sd card. Had a few issues to begin with it not sticking, but then I realised I had loaded the wrong spool and was using ABS filament. Swapped it for PLA and it worked first time. I learned more from just doing that one print than I did from watching dozens on videos.

    • @tomheeks2830
      @tomheeks2830 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Is it an issue that some of the numbers are blue when it does the bed levelling? The cat model is pretty small so it was fine, but would this be an issue for larger prints?

    • @crooker2
      @crooker2 Před 7 měsíci +2

      No. The printer is designed to accept a certain amount of inconsistency with the bed level, and given that you can't adjust the bed screws (easily anyway), a couple of blue values shouldn't be too much of a problem (my front left corner alway seems to be a bit high)
      As far as the print sheet... I had terrible luck with prints sticking TOO well on the stock print bed, but purchased a low cost magnetic PEI sheet and have GREAT success with it (with PLA... I've never printed any other type of material)

      @Thor4Mayor Před 6 měsíci

      It is very sticky. However, I was about 10 and a half hours into a 13-hour print, and it came off🙁. I, however, think that it was because I was using a brim, which can easily come off, and it was a top-heavy project. I should have used a raft. Just saying, it can be very sticky, but you still need to figure out the best way to get bed adhesion

    Thanks Bryan for your thoughts on the V3. We bought 2 of them and our first time playing with 3D printing. The biggest gain I see with this $200 class printer is auto bed leveling feature, can't beat it. Totally enjoy it and running a raspberry pi using Octoprint. This is definitely the best printer you can get to 200$. Direct drive, dual lead screws and auto bed leveling are huge features to get at that price. Of course there are better printers around if you want to spend more, but I think having a competent printer at a low price is important for people just getting into the hobby.
    The only real missing feature is the filament run out sensor, but maybe that can be an up-sell component that creality can sell to those who want it. I don't think it is a necessary feature for most people. And as for the tool tray, sad to see it go but the other features more than make up for it.

  • @peircedan
    @peircedan Před 6 měsíci

    Looking forward to unboxing my new SE.
    I'd rather not have to modify the printer so that is not an issue for me.
    I'm not going to miss a drawer as I am going to re-purpose our old baby change table as the table for this printer and it has lots of drawers.
    It would have been nice to have a filament run-out sensor but one is only going to get so much on a budget printer and I am liking the set of features this one has.
    My previous budget printers are both smaller. I like that on this one I can easily swap in a PEI build surface.
    Now I got to go get my space ready.

    I don't have a direct drive printer, so this is tempting for that reason. And it seems that the filament path is better than with the CR 6 SE and the Ender 3 V2. But rather than being another printer, if I bought this one, I'll probably never get the V2 running to my satisfaction. It does make me think about adding a strain gauge to set the Z axis offset for my CR 6 SE.

    I think this is a first or beginner printer, with a lot of features I wish my first Creality had, like the probe and z calibration. I think in this price range not being able to modify is not a bad thing, I spent too much money on my Ender 5 that I wish I would have used for a better printer.

    • @crooker2
      @crooker2 Před 7 měsíci

      I think the hardware is great for this printer. But I'm saddened by the lack of software control offered by creality... And the difficulty in being able to modify the firmware to unlock the printer's potential.
      Hoping someone at MriscoC is able to crack this machine and offer an Ender 3V3 flavour of firmware.
      Hell... I don't even mind losing the z-offset sensor functionality. It's a minor feature given how NOT HARD it is to set z-offset with a piece of paper.

    The only true con I really picked up was the lack of run out sensor which the instructions say the board already has space for you just have to install one. Besides that the other cons felt like you were just searching for something negative to say about it.
    In my opinion the pros very much outweigh the cons and overall it's a very polished product for $200US.

  • @crooker2
    @crooker2 Před 7 měsíci

    I've been waiting anxiously for your review of this printer... However I think you've been generous to it.
    Granted, I understand this is a 200 printer... And in that light: This is a good printer crippled with BAD software. The creality cloud software is sorely lacking (multi colour print anyone?)
    Currently there seems to be a lack of ability to update it with third party firmware. Still waiting on support for MriscoC or even a decent Klipper cfg to move it over to that. (spoiler alert... I'm not smart enough to come up with one on my own).
    Even support for Prusaslicer or Cura seems to be as-yet missing and I'm hoping the community steps up to the plate on this one.
    So my bottom line is... Great hardware (though a PEI sheet upgrade is almost a necessity... The stock print plate holds prints too hard! I ripped a print apart trying to get it off the cold build plate).

    Have you had to do anything with the PTFE tube yet? I had a slight clog this morning and the tube popped out when I pushed the cleaning tool through. Hopefully it's not something that's going to require a complete disassembly of the direct drive assembly.

    Nice review. Auto bed leveling with auto z offset and a decent flex plate make this the best cheap printer for newbies in history. How many Ender 3 Pro and Ender 3 V3 owners either returned or shoved their printers into a corner to be forgotten when they couldn't get a print to stick? It just needs an all metal hotend to be perfect.......I can live without the filament sensor.

    • @crooker2
      @crooker2 Před 7 měsíci

      I think the z-offset sensor seems to be an odd priority for creality. Setting Z-offset with a piece of paper is just too easy to need to solve with additional hardware.
      I wish they would have put that extra effort into a filament runout sensor and better firmware.
      Doesn't really negate the great printer hardware they have here. It's just the software that limits this thing.

  • @crooker2

    Do you think the ender 3 v3 se will ever be supported by MriscoC firmware? I love the hardware profile of this printer... But I hate the fact that the software cripples it so much.

    I dont recommend this printer they really need to update there firmware and make it come with the PEI buildplate, also finding spare parts is a chore and there isnt really a way to upgrade your hotend so your limited to 250 degrees with the ptf tube. Id recommend the Sidewinder x3 pro its got the added bonuses of a larger touch screen, dual sided PEI buildplate , a slightly larger build area , better cooling fans, 300 degree volcano quick change nozzle, filament runout sensor, dual Z motors and a way cleaner look without cables hanging out for just 20 dollars more than the v3 se. Only problem with that machine is I cant find where to get the interchangeable nozzle replacements and no oone sells them in Canada for a fair price :(

      Hi! I'm sorry somebody swiped your content. My wife bought it for me about a year and a half ago. She says it most likely came from www.theinstantmessage.com/ but they don't have it listed any longer. Redbubble has a "My Dad Jokes are Tearable" shirt, but it's not identical to the one I have. I really do not like the all plastic body on this with all the heat that is around, asking for trouble fire wise in my book.

      Maybe the E-step calibration is not done that great. I guess they use a generic value that's the same for all printers. I wonder if you fine-tune it a bit more you would get better results. Also - If you use the standard temperature settings for different types of filament, you get some slight problems. It's always a good idea to print a temperature tower every time you get a new filament, and especially if you get a new printer.

    Great video! But is it just me or does the video seem a bit out of foucs?

    Between this and the anycubic kobra 2 neo, which would you pick? They are the same price.
