The great line that was left out of this clip was him saying, "We had a black &white tv so, this was the first game I ever saw in color!" Words to that effect...
As a kid growing up in MT, I was a huge Yankee fan but did not think I would ever see a game there at the stadium. Later in life, in 2007, i got the opportunity to go and take my Dad there and watch them play the Red Sox. One of the best days of my life! The old stadium was really something!! You could just feel that history.
I had the opportunity to go to two games in the original Yankee Stadium. Even though I cannot stand the Yankees, I was awe struck by the history of the park, the house that Ruth built! I was able to look past the Yankees and just respect the past players and their accomplishments. The stadium had an ear to so many monumental moments, if it could only speak. I love the game.
the first game I went to Yankee Stadium was on 7/25/61 when I was 12...went with a bunch of 12 year olds from Brooklyn...we took the Subway...got in for $1.25 with general admission...I remember walking around the Stadium changing seats...Maris hit two and Mantle one in the first game...if Mantle played in today's Yankee Stadium, he would have hit 60 homers routinely...
Every time I see baseball on I watch it. N this intro is exactly the magic of it all. Being a 6 7 8 year old kid and walking up to your 1st stadium is daunting. Then u get in and see the beauty of the field. Mesmerizing, how people can not like sports will forever baffle me. Watching this reminds me of my 1st game, my dad, my grandpa, my uncles. Just magical, tiger stadium for me though
Little did Billy Crystal know years later Joe DiMaggio would slug him hard in the stomach for neglecting to announce him as the greatest living ballplayer.
@@matts.3017 I didn’t write that in defense of someone disputing it. I wrote it just as a way to say the first time walking into the old Yankee Stadium wasn’t the only mystifying experience a young baseball fan could have. Since I’m partial to my side of the rivalry in every way I prefer Fenway to all other parks. I’m not sure why you felt the need to ask that question.

My father took me to a Kansas City Royals game when I was 15. We sat in Ewing Kauffman's old seats, front row, just to the left of the Royals dugout. Buck O'Neil came up to us, shook my hand and signed my old Monarchs hat. Mike Sweeney sent one into that fountains. That was a good day.
How people don't like sports. I'll never understand it. Sure their just games, but they're such an amazing part of society. To see such excellence daily is such a treat. Next to music, sports are our greatest invention
Maybe the worse crime in baseball that I personally witnessed, was the spring training game the Yankees played on Crystal's 60th birthday..... (60, right?).... It was decided that he'd bat first after signing a one day contract..... I can stop right here for the rest of you that know....it was decided that EVERY sp.tr. at-bat was SO Crucial....that that was also his only at bat. I live in Philly, I'm only watching for him! A man who's loved the game & loved that team his whole life!....an un repeatable moment....& that's the end of it.... a pretty good rip!....If it'd stayed fair....and then the K....no shame...it is major league pitching after all.... Why didn't they let him stay that special day DH? Did the season end any different!? I want to know from New York fans!
The fact remains that it was an old stadium at the time it was demolished. You can only renovate it so many times - and the replacement is a better stadium. The big problem is that it is in a city run by idiot leftists who aren't fit to run a hotdog stand.
@M Do you really think the intelligent way to interest people in soccer is to attempt to minimalize the sports they do follow? Especially when you back such a front-runner team like Manchester United. Come on. If you had an Everton or Portsmouth, you might be worth taking somewhat seriously.
it was ok. But the filw was completely east coast bias,.Too much east coast liberalism . Im a Tigers fan here in detroit and frankly I dint like it. Billy Crystal summed up why Baseball is different for American boys when he said that baseball to him is "The game my father taught me how to play".

So does Wrigley. Some day I'd like to go to Fenway. I feel a kindred spirit somehow with RedSox fans.

One of my biggest regrets as a Norwegian Yankees supporter is that I didn't get to visit Yankee Stadium before it was torn down.
Billy Crystal is a true American. Nothing like Baseball, Hotdogs, Apple pie and Chevrolet!
all that great history gone for greed

Mickey wasn't as.good as mays or clemente but we❤Hite was everything to crystal blond blue eyes
And now it’s all gone. Too bad the Yankees destroyed their history.
@MANCHESTER UNITED Who cares. Soccer is boring as hell.
