This Mantra appears in 4th Kaanda, 6th Prasna and 6th Anuvaka of Krishna Yajur Veda - Taittireeya Samhita.
*Purpose of this Mantra*:
It is recited during all auspicious occasions. This Mantra gives victory over enemies, protection from all evil forces and to win Land for ruling.
*Meaning of this Mantra*:
[1] Thundercloud : When the warrior goes forward to the battle, the face looks like a thundercloud (Jeemoota). You be with uninjured body and be victorious. Let the armour power protect you.
[2] Bow as a weapon: With the help of bows (Dhanvanaa), we will win the cows (Gaa). By the bows, we will win the contests (Aajim). By the bow, we win the terror battles. The bow troubles (Apakaamam) the foes. Let us win in all quarters (pra disha:) by the bows.
[3] Bowstring as a woman: As if a woman (Yosha), nearing (Aaganee ganti) a dear friend (priyam Sakhaayam) to embrace and whisper (shingte) in his ear (Karnam), the bow string (Jyaa) twangs over the bow (Dhanvan) and the bowstring ends tied up firmly (Paarayanti).
[4] Very close: The bow is as close as, a devoted wife (Yosha) is to her husband and a mother (Maataa) to a child (Putram). The two ends of the bow in harmony (samvidaane) moving (Aartnee) together will drive away the enemies and kill them.
[5] Role of Quiver: The quiver is the father of many daughters (here arrows). When goes to battle, he whizzes (cishca). He conquers every gang and army by slung on the back (Prushte).
[6] Chariot men: Smart charioteer (Susaarathi:) [Driver] standing on the chariot, guides the horses before him, to places, wherever (Yatra Yatra) he desires (Kamayate). You appreciate the power of horse reins. It complies with his thinking (Mana:).
[7] Strong Horses: The speedy horses show their strength (Teevran) with the Chariot (Rathebhi:) by neighing loudly and raising the dust from their strong hooves (Vrushapaanaya:). Without deviating from their path, (Anapavyayanta:) they will trample the enemy with their forefeet and kill them mercilessly.
[8] Board the Chariot: The Chariot in which his armour (Varma) and weapon (Aayudham) is kept, also carries the oblation (Havi:). Let us get on to the chariot with friendly (Sagmam) heart, full of joy.
[9] Power of Fathers: The fathers (Pitara:) who are very powerful (Shakteevanta:) with profound (Gabheera:) mind, reside in pleasurable places (Svaadusham), bestowing strength (Vayodha:) to us at difficult situations. They are always unbeatable (Amrudhra:) by enemies because, they are with wide-range of hosts (Citrasena:) consists of real heroes (Sadoveera:) who conquered (Urava:) many hosts (Vraatasaaha:) in the past, supported by powerful arrows (Ishubala:).
[10] Blessings for protection: Let the Brahmins, father and people deserving Soma (Divine drink) bless us, for our protection. Let the un-menaced (Anehasaa) heaven and earth (Dyaavaa Prutivee) be auspicious (Shive) to us. May Pooshan, the guardian of truth (Ruta Vrudha:) protect us from misfortune. You protect me. Let us be unbeatable by any foes.
[11] Feather: A feather (Suparnam) is her garment (Vaste) and a deer (Mruga:) is her tooth (Danta:). She is tied (Sam naddha) with cow, but when shot, she flies (Patati) . Where (Yatra) men (Nara:) run together and apart, let the arrows grant us safety there. Here "she/her" refers to "arrows".
[12] Soma & Aditi: You are the follower of un-deviated and straight path. Avoid and delete us from the arrows. Let our body be as of a stone. Let Soma favour us. May Aditi grant us pleasure.
[13] Horse whip: It will attack their backs. It will take away their thighs. O, Horsewhip, stimulate the skillful horses in the battles.
[14] Armguard: It encircles his arm like spiral coiling that of a snake. The covering guard of the forearm prevents the rubbing of the bowstring. By different skills and knowledge, let the warrior courageously shield himself from the bows and arrows on all sides.
[15] Chariot: O Chariot, you be our brave, successful friend with great strength. You are tied with cowhide (Gobhi:) and be strong. He who climbs on you, will conquer whatever is to be conquered.
[16] Thunderbolt: From heaven and earth, one strength (Ojas) is gathered. The trees (Vanaspataya) strengthened it. You are a chariot, surrounded by the cows and moved by the power of water. You seek Indra's thunderbolt through oblation.
[17] Chariot: O, Divine chariot, you are the thunderbolt of Indra, the face of the Maruts, Embryo of Mitra, Navel of Varuna. By recognising our sincere sacrifice, please accept our oblation.
[18] Drum : O Drum, roar to heaven and earth. Let the whole world know you in all places. You in unison with Indra and other gods, drive away the enemies to faraway places.
[19] Drum : O Drum, road and grant us energy (Ojas) and strength. By thundering, overthrow the obstacles. O Drum, drive away the bad luck from here. You are the Indra's fist (Mushti). Demonstrate your strength.
[20] Victory : Drive away the enemies from here and bring them to us in that place. The drum makes a loud sound to indicate the battle. Our well-equipped warriors rush along with speedy horses and assemble. O Indra, let our chariot men be victorious.
