I met Ernest Hemmingway’s son when I was working at a restaurant in Marin. I said “Hemingway, as in Ernest? You’re not related are you?” Kind of as a joke. He very reluctantly, and obviously very embarrassedly said “yes.” You could tell he did NOT like thinking about his father. Makes sense.

@@ince55ant one of the things that makes historians jobs difficult is how a lot of stuff in the past that was considered ‘common knowledge’ by different peoples back in the day (household religious practices, folklore, etc) got lost because nobody thought it rare and worth documenting, so I agree with you there.
