  • In the inaugural video for this channel we are taking the first steps to putting in a driveway and clearing out some topsoil with a brand new Summit TX-25 tractor with a few attachments. After trying out the BBX60 Box Blade to grade out the home site, I used the LX-85 front loader paired with the Summit GX54 Grapple attachment to move around a large rock, and then switched to the bucket so I could excavate a few areas of the driveway and get them leveled out. I also talk a little about why I bought this tractor and my initial impressions using it for the fist time.

    So I just bought 82 acres and I am in the process of getting it cleaned up and cleared out, to do most of the work I hired a local logging company to help with my driveway and some land clearing. He was able to work with me with some of the lumber as part of the payment and very little cost out of my pocket to get it all done. Now once the major work gets done and cleared out I am going to need some equipment to keep it maintained and looking nice. I am definitely going to be needing a tractor. I grew up across from a 89 acre farm and I am very close to the farmer and what he told me was in the generations he had on the farm what he learned was it’s never too much equipment you can have. He has a few tractors and a backhoe along with a dozer. Now I was thinking of getting one machine and just getting attachments. He said that land is very unpredictable and unique and the type of machine you need may vary, for example the mid tractor he has which is a John Deere 2300 series about 40hp is good for getting into the smaller parcels of land to make a garden bed for crops and to use a finish mower on, the other bigger machines are used for land development which are 80hp+ and then the track dozer is used for grading on wet land because the tracks provide a little bit more traction. I was looking into the new holland boomer series tractor because the price point of it wasn’t too bad after speaking to my local dealer about it. The same machine in JD or maybe even Massey are a lot more expensive maybe I will check out this brand and see what they have to offer. Thanks!

      @about12acres  Před 15 dny

      Congrats on the land purchase! That’s a great parcel amount, talk about opportunity to grow. I’ve been very happy with this tractor and most of the attachments so far, though I wouldn’t buy the Summit bush hog again if given the chance. There are some designs flaws that make it very annoying to use.
      Definitely check out the tractor itself if you get a chance, it pulls its weight against some way bigger more expensive machinery.

      @@about12acres thank you! It is definitely very exciting to be able to own that much of land and the opportunities are basically endless, I will be creating a CZcams channel towards it once I am living on it hopefully in the near future. I have a commercial grade lawnmower that I am going to be using around the house lot and I was just going to maybe look into a tow behind wide spread mower for the east fields, I haven’t decided yet. I will definitely check out the machine and maybe see if the company can let me test out there larger 80hp+ model being that I have the space and i definitely have the need for it. My parcel is all trees at the moment, so I would definitely need a larger machine to do most of the land clearing and it has to be able to pull/push a large blade in the rear. My road that I am having built is going to be 20ft wide, wide enough for two cars to go past each other on the main entrance to my property and then I will make a road that’s about wide enough for one car to access the other fields. Luckily I was able to purchase land all on one side of the state road so I have total access to all of it. Very cool and very exciting!

    Fabric is a waste of money. You just need 1 inch of 1/4 minus gravel then 2 inchs of 3/4 minus gravel for a nicer finish and slope it so water rolls off and your done. Minus means it has the fine material they just crush and screen out the material so you get different sizes of rock. If it's thick enough it packs down you might want to rent a vibrating plate or roller to make it hard spray some water on it before and it packs down even nicer

      I put textile fabric down on my 1000' driveway 12 years ago. Not sure if I would do that again. Can't really refresh it much without tearing into the fabric. I drag it with a harrow and works ok. I have added gravel once and need to again and still gets a little muddy in spots. I was thinking it wouldn't let the dirt come up but believe lot of it is just blowing dust and what cars bring in. Still have to spot spray Round Up to keep grass and weeks down. Neighbor has same drive and didn't put down fabric but I think he put a more gravel put down than I did and his has held up well. I'm on the fence if it was worth it or not. Could be the excavator company didn't put enough rock down, not sure but they did crown it fairly well. I have a 8N Ford now but thinking seriously on getting the Summit this year so keep the videos coming.

    Hey Ima!
    Good to see you healed up and going. Love the land. Looks like a good project.
    How many HP... horse Power is this new tractor?
    I would put some GABIONS at the creek. I wish I knew about them back in South Carolina. We are using them here in Chile and they are awesome.
    Yall see all that broom straw? In South Carolina that is because you have LIME poor soil. It is cheap and easy to spread.
    Looking forward to the builds. Yall going to put in a well?
    Ciao from Chile. Jim

      Hi Jim!
      The tractor is 25hp, with a lot of torque. Haven’t gotten stuck yet and the 4WD definitely helps.
      I will look into the gabions and definitely going to be spreading some lime on the ground!
      There will be a well dug some time in q2 2024😎

    0:19 You mentioned starting out with 6 attachments
    Comes standard with the bucket. In this video, you also featured the 1) grapple, 2) box blade, 3) mentioned but didn't show rear blade.
    What else did you choose as the starting lineup?

    • @about12acres
      @about12acres  Před 6 měsíci

      Great question! Along with the tractor which comes with the bucket(1) I purchased: the grapple, box blade, 48" rotary cutter, the rear blade, and a posthole digger/auger.
      At the time of filming this first video I only had received the grapple, box blade and bucket. I am still waiting on the rear blade to be delivered.

    I’ve had mine for about 2 months now and haven’t had a single issue the tractor yet ! I have however had an issue with the summit grapple it seems the grease fitting on the left side is drilled too far back on mine making it nearly impossible to grease .. other than that minor issue it’s been great

      ITL (international tractors limited), company from India. They sell tractors as Sonalika in India, as Solis in Europe, Americas, Australia.... And Summit as some advance features. Platform is the same.
