At one point, it seemed he wasn't laughing so much at the jokes but at Rodney's non stop bringing up stuff which Carson had to be a set up man....like he was laughing more at Johnny trying to deal with dealing with Rodney.
Few, if any, could make Johnny laugh as did Rodney. And, to his credit, Johnny could be a heck of a straight-man feeding Rodney lines. Miss them both!!!
All the comedians mentioned are American. So how do you know what other comedians there are "on the planet" that do not qualify for your list. Did you know that there actually countries and comedians outside of the USA?
I used to watch Carson with my mom who was a night owl. We used to watch in L.A. when the Tonight Show was on from 11:30 to 1:00 AM. No wonder I missed so many days of school!
Two of my favorite comedians/actors. I never realized they appeared together on the Carson show. Granted it was before my time, but it's great to see these two on stage together with Carson. Wish they were both still around. Fatso and Easy Money are some of my favorite comedies.
brian leblanc that is sad it's not the same quality never so much garbage on so many channels. It's all about pushing agendas down our throats instead of entertaining us.
Right on my fellow " baby boomer" 1963, May I was born...I enjoy talking to people the same age as me on here! I LOVE youtube for that reason, going back to my good days! Wonderful memories!
"....the rabbit didn't die, it just stays in critical condition.". i LMAO every single time I hear it. Also the "....who's talking' here?" bit. Too much.
Those were the days when entertainers went into the entertainment industry because they loved it. They would have been entertainers even if it meant they had to live on the street. Today's "entertainers" are in it just for the money.
Man he was like a machine gun delivery wasn't he....ya had to love him... the love he never got at home came in Spades once he started to make it - and it never stopped... you were the greatest Rodney , Rest in peace young man !
Producer should've shown Dom more! He musta been crying over Machine gun Rodney. From 1st one liner....was a great set from Dom too...they both got a little outside for the times !!! Yay! Great post!
Amen never be another like him out could replace him. I remember when he retired and hated it no don't leave us Johnny! wah. You can't learn what he had.
+Paige Cat The difference between Carson and the rest of these hacks, less David Letterman, Carson made the show about the guests, these other make the show about themselves
I just wanted to thank you so much Archilchus Moz, for sharing this. These shows were wonderful. It was such a relaxing and uplifting way to unwind from the stress of the day, watching these before turning in at night. Watching Johnny's show was an escape from the stress of the news and the daily grind of the day. None of the talk shows of today, offer this. Thanks again.
@@jamesanthony5681 Obviously you are too young to remember him, he was an extraordinarily talented comedian, author and chef. Canon Ball Run movies, did the voices for multiple cartoon movies and appeared in a wide range of variety shows which included the Dean Martin Show. Hollywood legend.
@@kikionthetrailoflove7036 I'm old enough. I remember DeLuise on the Dean Martin show in the barbershop sketches, and in the Smokey?/Cannonball Run? movies with Burt Reynolds. In fact Dom & Burt used to come on the Tonight show together (promoting a movie, I guess), with Reynolds laughing uncontrollably at anything DeLuise had to say. Seriously, Burt would be on his knees laughing, and I used to think, wtf is so funny?? Crickets. I didn't know about the author and chef aspect.
Johnny Carson was the best of the late night hosts and knew how to get involved and sit back and very seldom every got into politics not like the jerks on air now. RIP Johnny and thanks for the Laughs
Rodney was cool, funny, and smart.he made me laugh!I could listen him all day,and still laugh my ass off! He was in a class by himself. He was the best of all the comedians.
its like Dom Deluise just met Rodney for the first time and can't believe how funny this guy is. Rodney's not even fazed, he just keeps rolling with the punches, he did his job and killed it, "Bring on the next guy."
Shon C You left out Orson Bean, who was a gifted storyteller, among his many talents. Told a couple of the funniest jokes I ever heard. All are missed...
As Rodney was going into the hospital to have heart surgery he was asked how long his stay would be, he said if everything goes well about a week if not several hours, he died on the operating table.
He actually lived more than a year after that quip "If all goes well, about a week. If not, about an hour and a half.” though not very well as he was in a coma for much of that year.
Was this when Carson was still in New York City? And, somebody told me The Tonight Show was 1:30 hours long back then. Either way, Johnny Carson was the one and only, top dog, rock star talk show host. Whomever you feel is second best, is a very long way from this gifted host. Damn, I miss late night TV so much.
Looking back on time you realize what powerhouse and legendary comedian that Rodney Dangerfield was. If still alive I think Dom Deluise would agree, he could barely contain himself.
This is one of the best late night episodes I have ever seen. No wonder Johnny Carson is considered a legend.
This is the closest Dangerfield ever got to actually having a conversation and yet he had a joke for everything. Funny guy!
This was so much fun, I didn't want it to end.
Dom suffering with laughter at Rodneys jokes made this so much more precious to watch
Agree - he’s almost as funny as Rodney
At one point, it seemed he wasn't laughing so much at the jokes but at Rodney's non stop bringing up stuff which Carson had to be a set up man....like he was laughing more at Johnny trying to deal with dealing with Rodney.
there will never be another Rodney Dangerfield. true genius
Few, if any, could make Johnny laugh as did Rodney. And, to his credit, Johnny could be a heck of a straight-man feeding Rodney lines. Miss them both!!!
Rodney always carried himself very very well. Best comedian on the planet, nobody will ever be him.
George Carlin cracks me up too.
David Crandall Carlin, Winters, Dangerfield, Rickles... the best of the best (I would say Chappelle too but he’s not in the same “generation”)

The things you remember as a child🕶😲😀✌
All the comedians mentioned are American. So how do you know what other comedians there are "on the planet" that do not qualify for your list. Did you know that there actually countries and comedians outside of the USA?
When I was in high school I used to stay up late to watch Johnny Carson, I miss him. There will never be another one like him.
I did exactly the same thing and I remember this show. Also, do you remember Orson Bean ? He was a great talent, and very funny man in his own right.
I used to watch Carson with my mom who was a night owl. We used to watch in L.A. when the Tonight Show was on from 11:30 to 1:00 AM. No wonder I missed so many days of school!
Jimmy Fallon..... ha ha
Yep we had staying power in those years. Glad I still passed with good grades
I was lucky enough to see Dangerfield perform in Vegas, many years....decades ago.
Mister Tibbs lucky bastard
Me too in 84
What a privilege brother he's one of the best comedians I've ever heard in my entire life he's amazing
I saw Rodney at Caesars in May of 1984.
I love Dom Deluise's laugh... it's so infectious!
Dom couldn;t stop laughing on this show, with Rodney there.
What a lovable , funny , good hearted man
Dangerfield was one off the best comedians there was , won’t be forgotten , RIP
R.I.P. Dom DeLuise and Rodney Dangerfield (the voices of Itchy Itchiford and Rover Dangerfield). Those guys were real funny.
They were saving their laughs for Rodney 😀 listening to Rodney is an instant cure for depression
Rodney Dangerfield's couch bits on the "Tonight Show" were golden. He was pushing the envelope for broadcast TV in 1974.
He had Dom crying laughing. 😂
its great to be able to watch Johnny and friends. He was the greatest.
You will never get anyone like Rodney Dangerfield, he was the best one liner ever.
True.....
Two of my favorite comedians/actors. I never realized they appeared together on the Carson show. Granted it was before my time, but it's great to see these two on stage together with Carson. Wish they were both still around. Fatso and Easy Money are some of my favorite comedies.
Johnny bailed Rodney out when he ran out of jokes...that was Class.
Many times over the years. Awesome stuff.
As Rodney is on a roll with Johnny, Dom Deluise can't stop laughing.
44 years later... And still funny!
I saw Dom Deluise at the Warren theatre - Last of the Red Hot Lovers. He had everyone rolling in the aisles.
Johnny's a great straight man here. A terrific host who makes his guests shine. Nice to see.
It really baffles me that many people don't get that Carson is indeed playing the Straight man and beleive he is lost in the whole thing.
Rodney, thanks for all the joy. I will always have respect and gratitude for you. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Gotta love Dom's laughter.
I love Dom Deluise laughing his ass off next to Rodney! They're all gone now.....Great days of TV! I was only 11 in 1974.
I was 3 and my brother was a baby.
I Was 11 Also In 1974.....Those Days Of TV Are Long Gone....Sad

Yes Baby Boomer HaHa.....Nice To Hear From Someone My Age Also.....Most Of My Friends I Grew Up With Have Passed On...Not Many Of Us Left HaHa
Rodney was one of the few of whom it could be said that everything about him was funny, like Groucho, Hackett, Gleason. Very rare talent.
You got that right my friend
dom is having the time of his life. his laughing is so real lol
I love how Rodney had Dom cracking up
When Rodney came on ,it was all over!....So funny and a TRUE ORIGINAL!....
I could listen to Dangerfield 24/7
"....the rabbit didn't die, it just stays in critical condition.". i LMAO every single time I hear it. Also the "....who's talking' here?" bit. Too much.
Me to !
Hell yes
I met Rodney! At a party! Falls out of a helicopter drugged out on cocaine! He was great! Rip Rodney 💔🙏🙏 😇
This, folks, was the golden age of TV. I pity this generation that holds up the Kardashian's as entertainment.
kardashian and entertainment in the same sentence I didn't even think those words were allowed in the same sentence
We’re not too thrilled to be spoken down to by those who use possessive apostrophes mistakenly. I guess we’re even, huh?
Agreed
Golden Age? I don't think so.
Those were the days when entertainers went into the entertainment industry because they loved it. They would have been entertainers even if it meant they had to live on the street. Today's "entertainers" are in it just for the money.
I miss his comedy, made you laugh and feel great no matter how bad it was at that time.
Somewhere in a parallel universe Rodney is still telling amazing jokes to Johnny .. and I am laughing on the couch.. boy do I envy that guy LOL
That is Orson Bean. I wish they would have included his segment. Very funny guy. Versatile.
Rodney got very very scared right before that picture came out. He got very serious. His reaction is funny.
Man he was like a machine gun delivery wasn't he....ya had to love him... the love he never got at home came in Spades once he started to make it - and it never stopped... you were the greatest Rodney , Rest in peace young man !
Johnny was a real pro. He always allowed his guests to do their thing without constantly interrupting.
You’ll never see it now!
what a talent, knowing to shut up
That’s it in a nutshell- letting people shine and not having to steal their thunder
Yeah,I remember one time I called my landlord and told him I got a leak in the sink. He says "go ahead".
thank god for CZcams !!!!
No one today even approaches the talent that Rodney had. True genus.
I was 1 year old when this aired. Time sure flys people. ENJOY THE NOW.
Neil Tipton I was 9 months, Rodney was always one of my favorites and later realized that Rodney started a lot of my other favorite comics.
Rodney's expression after the pied piper joke fell flat was priceless. 26:43
talk shows will never get better than this
Those were the days..I was 15....those were good days.. when Seattle was still Seattle.
And when America was well.....America!
Producer should've shown Dom more! He musta been crying over Machine gun Rodney. From 1st one liner....was a great set from Dom too...they both got a little outside for the times !!! Yay! Great post!
Another time, reminds of my grand parents. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, how old are you?
Almost everyone has forgotten Orson Bean.
"Where ya goin', Rodney?"
"Leave me alone!!"
The only time I think the man ever blushed for real!
To make Johnny laugh....you're a success!
I was only a know nothing kid when Johnny was still on, but even I noticed the difference between Johnny and the people who came after. miss him still
Wow, I love the picture of the father, and the line about a barber hitting his kids...
Dangerfield is the GRANDMASTER of COMEDY!!
a great show, thanks. iiss Johnny Carson. this clip makes me miss my younger days.
Carson is still king of late night

RJ 1999 Your so right about that. The others have to incorporate their own antics to get attention for the program Johnny didn't!
weirdshibainu hell yeah. I also like Craig Ferguson
Yeah! the king ot the dead
Rodney was a favorite of mine even when I was a teenager. I am proud to say my son is a Rodney fan too!!
sad to think all these people are gone now... The Show Must Go On
Orson Bean still lives..
I like the fist bump when Rodney says Dr. Vinnie Boom Batz
Hilarious how johnny was so innocent with the popper thing.

yeah. everything stinks now adays.

@yafargo my doctor told me to keep smoking, if I wanted to chew gum.
Everyone smoked everywhere in the old days, pilots flying planes, priests saying mass, surgeons in operating theatres
"There are some people who like salads, and if you want them to smell good use that."
That is the best "word from our sponsors" I have ever heard.
Non-stop laughter with Rodney
Can't beat Rodney Dangerfield- he's the Bomb!! The quickest, funniest comic EVER.. NO END to his catalogue of gang's.. RIP..TO THE KING OF COMEDY..
I told my kid one day you'll have a child of your own...he said, so will you!
Oh my Lord! It's 2023 and I'm rolling!
I was too young to appreciate the talent of those men. How I wish I could go back, even if it meant being older, to live in those times.
Dom Delouise was great talker and story teller...a good guest for Carson who appeared to get a kick out of him. like the audience.
"Pound your pencil." A great unintentional euphemism.
jasmoran66 Carson ignored the remark
George Lyons
No he didn't. Watch again
More talent on that stage than the entire Hollywood pretenders today. This was TV at it's best.

We’ve all heard “I’ve gotta a million of em’”. I think Rodney dangerfield actually did...
Dangerfield never fails to crack me up !
PugetSoundFlyer PSF he was on with Johnny 70 times. they were close friends.
2manysecrets that was when he returned he was a star before that. then fizzled out. then came back at 40.
If you need a fail, I'm your guy...for 5 bucks more, I'll feel ya too.
Rodney starts at 17:46. Sorry, Dom.
Rodney was cool, funny, and smart.he made me laugh!I could listen him all day,and still laugh my ass off! He was in a class by himself. He was the best of all the comedians.
Dom was actually very interesting.
Dom & Rodney ❤️
I did a spit take with my coffee with that joke at the tail end,,"like a barber hittin his kid" haha
Rodney Dangerfield is so damn funny, man i wish we got more from him. or how cool would it be if he appeared in the sopranos
Minute 26, a classic moment, Rodney gets tripped up and asks who is talking here....!
its like Dom Deluise just met Rodney for the first time and can't believe how funny this guy is. Rodney's not even fazed, he just keeps rolling with the punches, he did his job and killed it, "Bring on the next guy."

Actually in the very beginning the tonite show was 1:45 minutes. Ed McMahon hosted the 1st 15 minutes.
Carson moved the Tonight show to LA in 1972.

Good stuff. Thanks for posting airing date. Many folks don’t.
Priceless, they broke the mold when Rodney was created. ..
He will make you laugh he was awesome I've seen his show @ The Bushnell Hartford CT.
Love those days🧚♀️
Amazing energy , an old pro.
Every time Rodney is on Carson i haven never seen a real interview. It's Rodney 1 liners for 20 minutes.
My wife saw the trash truck going down the street so ran after the truck and yelled, " Is it too late for the trash?" "No, jump in."
Priceless entertainment!
