Can't recommend Dan's video book enough! If you like the Derek Trucks/Duane Allman slide sound, you'll love it. You can tell Dan knows his stuff, but the 50 licks is such a great way to learn this difficult style.

It's so valuable to have a teacher speak in intervals instead of fret numbers! Thank you so much.

Yet another great job Dan. No one is delivering this type of material like you do. Your enthusiasm is not only obvious, it is also contagious. For me personally you’ve taught me so much and really showed me how much fun playing slide can be. The concepts have even made their way into my non-slide playing. I also like the way you explain using intervals. Keep it up my friend. These videos are pure gold.

As far as I am aware he played Dreams and Mountain Jam in standard tuning, and possibly the recorded version of Trouble no more ( not the fillmore east live version)

Dan, I couldn’t agree more with you about his playing on dreams as being a first regarding the note choice and the wide phrasing. Was almost like listening to a classical composition the first time I heard it. I can actually remember where I was while listening to it for the first time. I must have Worn out that section of the cassette I listened to it so many times

Great video and much respect. I kinda like the first part of the solo without the slide better, but both parts came straight down from the gods

Dan I think Ry Cooder was doing some of that sort of thing around the same time- his solo stuff like Dark End of the Street (which came a bit later) but also check what he did on the Stones' Sister Morphine. It's not the full Derek expression of the single string lines but it is getting there.

Jeff this is an excellent point! Ry Cooder definitely escaped me while recording this, thanks a lot for pointing that out! I second all the recommendations you made here

You really need to see Dillon Adams! I occasionally run sound for the band he plays in. Rhett Shull just did a video on him. Look him up.

I bet Duane playing the solo in standard tuning instead of open e caused him to go out of the box and traverse new territory on the neck. I love how little moments of inspiration can alter art forever.

He played Dreams in standard tuning. Other stuff was in “E”.

I think part of the reason that he didn't play in those boxes is because in this song specifically he is playing slide in standard tuning instead of open E like he does on the other songs you mentioned

are you not using a compressor pedal? I thought I needed a compressor for good tone)

I don't use a compressor pedal, I don't think it is necessary for good tone!
