excellent point about adrenaline and playing live. it's actually a very under-covered aspect of guitar, but maybe the most important?

Great lesson! I hadn't thought about string gauge affecting slide. I'm going to have to break down and buy a reso at some point.

Thanks, Greg! A resonator is on my list too. yeah, I've found to avoid "fret rattle" on the high E string, you have to have a very light touch if you use 9s or 10s. My solution was to raise the action more and use the 11s with a top wrapped bridge. The ES335 is my main guitar, so I hardly ever tune it to open E and with this setup, I can play "normal" guitar comfortably and then whip out the slide to play in standard when needed without any high E string issues.
From what I can recall, Duane used to play a bunch of tunes, opening with Statesboro, in a row in open E, then re-tune to standard for the rest of the set. Later, he may have used two guitars; the SG from Dickey tuned to Open E and a les paul for standard playing.

I find that anchoring your thumb on the back of the neck is key. Then its all in those three frets.

Absolutely, positively agree that the right hand holds the keys to the kingdom! Now I want to have a go at top wrapping...and it's all your fault, man! Uber informative video.

In a video I saw they said both Duane & Greg were left handed. That is amazing cause they learned to play right handed guitars. Maybe it was because left handed guitars were hard to get back then. Regardless, Duane became one of the best ever. Thanks for the lesson.

    What year is that guitar?

Nice lesson but you can play slide in standard tuning you don't need to have multiple guitars. Ritchie Blackmore, Warren Haynes, Billy Gibbons, Jeff Beck...standard tuning.
