Amazfit T-Rex Pro Review | Best new rugged smartwatch for 2021?

  • Reviewing the Amazfit T-Rex Pro, a fresh 2021 rugged smartwatch designed for fitness tracking out in the wild. This super-tough smart watch has survived 15 military grade tests, boasting a drop-proof temperature-proof design with 10ATM water resistance. I've been testing the Amazfit T-Rex Pro for over a week now and here's my final verdict - is this one of the best rugged watches around?
The OLED screen is sharp and supports Always On Display, although this feature does impact your battery life quite severely. I found that I got around four to five days of use from a charge, which falls behind rivals like the Huawei Watch GT2e. Still, that's better than most smartwatches using WearOS and the Apple Watch.
The Amazfit T-Rex Pro has all the usual fitness features include heart rate monitoring, SPO2, GPS, and supports lots of exercise types. There's no support for offline music playback sadly.

I have this watch and the review is pretty accurate. Only thing in surprised about is the 5 day battery?!
I've been wearing mine since 2nd of April , it's now the 10th of April and I'm still at 53% battery after 8days!
    Battery is brilliant.

28 days now and I've only charged this watch once. I recharged it once then It was still at about 22% battery and today is at 58%.
28 days, one recharge and still going strong at 58%
      Battery is amazing!

What settings are you using to get that battery life. I'm getting 3-4 days but that is with always on screen (i just love that feature) auto brightness and full heath monitoring. Even still, my apple watch with aways on does not make it though a a day and that is why I bought this watch. However, when I go camping 14 day plus would be nice and I'll trade out the features and just is as a g-shock.

@@deand6411 I think the full health monitoring takes a lot of power to operate, notification should be turned off and GPS as well. If you just use always on , the battery should last quite some time.

    • @OliverStonesUK

@@mrbigb12 battery was still amazing, no noticeable difference.
Bad new is that about a month ago (after a year+ of wearing everyday) the strap broke. I emailed Amazfit who didn't reply. I messaged the seller on Amazon who said the strap is a consumable and I need to buy a replacement but they didn't sell straps. No one on Amazon sells the original strap only. I then bought a third party strap as asked by the seller but it was shorter than the original and didn't fit my wrist. Obviously without any strap and unable to get any replacement the watch became nothing more than a paperweight that tells the time. When I explained the issue to Amazon they refunded me in full once returning the watch. I then bought a TicWatch as the have rubber rather than silicon straps and are long enough to fit my large wrists.
The TicWatch isn't a big improvement despite being double the price. The battery was considerably better on the T-Rex Pro. The T-Rex Pro also had more accurate steps and better sleep tracking

I have the old T-Rex. When I don't use lift to wake function, hart rate monitoring and gps the battery life is simply amazing. I'm at 28% now and the watch has been on for 51days. In current mode It notifies me for calls, messages, shows me weather updates, and count steps. Plus I enjoy changing the watch faces. I would definitely get the t-rex pro if I didn't have the first edition.

I have Amazfit's Stratos 3, which has been very accurate with all the data, including sleep tracking. I love it's screen, which is reflective LCD, so it gets brighter and easier to see the sunnier the day - I don't know why they haven't continued using it on subsequent watches.
I do wish it had the spO2, ECG and PAI capabilities of the newer watches, though.

In fact, I charge it around 10% battery and when i check the phone app, that's when it states around 22days since last charge 😁. I'm getting max 3-4 days if I stay on 25% backlight. I'm not a fitness freak so I don't use those fitness functions. Just notifications. Still 4-5 days. The big advantage is its rugged design. That's what I found perfect for my daily tasks (army). It replaced my old Casio G-Shock and after few months using it, I have to say it's doing its job well. I would reccomend to have a separate power bank for this watch, if you taking a several day field trip. 3000 - 5000 mAh would last forever just to keep your watch going.

Got mine today, plan to return them to the seller tomorrow. Despite what the seller's web site told me, these watches don't have any possibility to playback music themselves, just controlling playback from phone. And if you like to run and alternate between run/walk interval, this is not for you. I don't understand why, but T-Rex Pro boast with having over 100 sports activities, but strangely, this is missing. So my idea of "let's go out, play music from the watches and do run/walk intervals without having to have the phone with me" can't be realized with T-Rex Pro. It's a pity, cause battery life seems to be great, design is to my liking, but instead of smart watch, I would probably rather call them "Fancy fitness band with GPS".

I wonder whether steps count, PAI, etc score across watches? e.g. if I do an activity with my GTS and earn 2 PAI and another activity with T-Rex Pro, and earn 3 PAI, would the app show that I earned 5 PAI, and the same for the steps? • @simdencard
      @simdencard Před 2 lety +1

Honor GS Pro is really good and has everything that the TRex Pro has apart from PAI. You get training status on the Honor GS Pro which tells you whether you are improving your fitness, maintaining, peaking or detraining. The Honor watch has sleep details on the watch itself unlike the T Rex Pro where you have to go into the app to see sleep details. Offline music can also be stored on the Honor GS Pro and headphones connected via Bluetooth so you can take it on a run & leave your phone at home. Honor GS Pro also has route back where if you are lost outside the watch can show you the way back to where you started. These features aren't available on the TRex Pro, but the TRex Pro is good fitness tracker in my opinion. Its basic, but really good at the same time and does its fitness tracking job well and is also a nice looking watch. T Rex Pro has fitness load like the Honor watch, as well as vo2max and can also advise you of a productive workout if you read the data given out via the heart rate readings.

I have this smartwatch. It's pretty decent for the price I got it (around $100). There's only really three things I don't like about it:
    1) Amazfit makes the bands harder to replace than they need to be. The screw system is kind of cumbersome.
    2) The watch doesn't have a Wheelchair activity. If it were a Wear OS watch, I wouldn't care, because I'd just be able to put Google Fit on it, but since it doesn't, I have to use the Walking activity and just try to convert the stats.
    3) The bezel isn't as tough as I wish it were. I scraped my watch against some concrete and it didn't end well. The watch wasn't destroyed, but I ended up with a scuff.

AmazeFit watches are notoriously known for heart sensors inaccuracies. It works fine for the first 5 min. Then, hand motion seems to increase the output even if you are resting.

I have had this watch for a month now. I already have 2 hairline scratches on the supposedly hardy screen. Now I have to order tempered glass protector to protect the tempered glass on the watch. Not to mention my OCD is rampaging....

Just got one of these, worth pointing out that the spO2 sensor sucks. Takes forever to measure, you can't move at all during, and it usually fails. No 24h tracking option and doesn't track during sleep. It's basically unusable so don't buy this watch for the spO2 sensor.

Does your T-Rex counting steps correctly?
Im walking in home and my trex-pro does not always count steps which im doing.
Has anyone checked if trex counting steps correctly? I compared trex pro and mi band 5. Mi band 10500 steps per day, trex only 5500. Im walking only in rooms.
    HELP.

Unfortunately, currently, the T-rex pro is not aimed at active persons. After seeing many reviews, it seems that GPX data can not be uploaded to the smartwatch, and traceback (breadcrumb trail) is also not enabled. I own the First Stratos and it performs those functions flawlessly. Developing a rugged Stratos is a smart move but missing the most important part for outdoor activities, not soo much! Hope they can fix that.
