  • 02:09 - The Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit explains the different types of flares
    06:05 - Departing Toronto in a 30-year old "pocket cruiser"
    07:40 - Losing, and retrieving, a fender
    09:35 - Transitting the Murray Canal
    14:00 - Picton to Rockport in the Thousand Islands
    17:00 - Brockville, Ontario to Valleyfield, Quebec via the St. Lawrence Seaway locks
    To prove that you don't need a million dollars to make incredible memories on the water, Steve buys a $20,000 "starter boat" - a 1994 Monterey 265 SEL - which is representative of what someone new to boating might get.
    He then takes it on an epic 750-nautical mile journey from Toronto to Montreal to New York City. This is the first stretch....

    As someone who works in the automotive industry, one tip I suggest is not to touch the glass with your bare fingers. Use gloves next time, oil transfer from your fingers onto the glass can cause hot spots and blow them out! Nice video!

    Love the travel, love the meteorologist humor. I live in Montreal (Lasalle) in an apartment. No room for a nice boat.
    So I live my adventures through people like you. Thank you for the video.

    Hehe, picture starting with a little johnboat, like a sundolphin 12. building a small foam and fiberglass "cuddy cabin" onto the front of it. 6-7' long. adding on solar panels, a little solar generator. windows with small fans... a rear mini bimini top, and taking that out on boating trips... up and down the smaller rivers and lakes.

    Interesting to see how you can go from one major city to another by boat. I’m guessing your boat has all the amenities of a small apartment like a bed, kitchen and bathroom with a shower…..

    • @WaterWaysTV
      @WaterWaysTV  Před 27 dny +1

      Exactly. This wasn't outfitted with the latest and greatest but it's somewhere between camping and hotel stays and you have all your stuff with you. Not to mention, most cities have sought-after waterfronts where hotels are at a premium but the slip fees are a fraction of the cost.

    Would be nice if the OPP officer made mention of disposing of expired flares! It's almost impossible to get rid of them once they've expired!

      Good point. We discussed that off-camera but because flare disposal options and dates (i.e. CanBoat - formerly Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons - has their flare disposal days but the change dates/locations year-to-year)
