  • Y3 of the Redline Rally is right around the corner. So lets talk a bit about my Rally jacket for this year. The Brave Star Selvage 23 oz Gauntlet. This is a HEAVY weight denim... maybe too heavy for a man like me to wear all summer... but CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

    Would you have chosen the 23oz Gauntlet, or the 16.5oz Uppercut?

    You bought the right jacket Jeff. Good luck with the contest.

      I can finally find out how rough this jacket will be! I just submitted my raw proof. I cab technically start wearing it now, but I already wrote June 1 on my fade log. So I will have to wait a few more days. I'm sure it will be 90 and 1000% humidity this Saturday!

      @@jeffgrantMEDIA you are the boss. You can do it. Man I waiting forever to wash it tho. You’re right it is bigger in length to accommodate for some fabric shrinkage.

      @@ansipage I don’t plan on washing this for at least 6 months. I’ll probably do a cold soak it in a month or two. Got to get out those starches and the initial summer sweat.

      I have been wearing my 14oz Gden handshake a LOT waiting for the rally to start. Please report back to me and let me know how you are liking your Ironside once you get some wear in it. I have been super happy with the fit/feel/finish/wear of my Brave Star. And their prices are amazing as well!

    I bought the 21.5oz currently wearing after an initial soak so it won’t bleed onto my shirts. I feel these are a steal considering the weight/quality. Good luck with the rally !

      Solid jacket you got there! I find a white weft really helps to prevent crocking. It doesn’t eliminate it though, so a good soak will help with that as well as remove the starches and soften the jacket up.

    I used to collect and used all sorts of selvedge denim, but I've gotten away from it. I try to buy local and prefer a little stretch in my denim nowadays. Mostly getting stuff from Dearborn Denim which is made in Chicago where I live. Most of their stuff is reasonably priced and is more lighter weight and stretch for comfort. I'll splurge on American giant when I can, but recently found jackthreads is back in business with the original owner so may get my cheaper staples from there. For denim jacket I have an old uniqlo made with american cone denim I wear when its warm and for cooler weather I just use a waxed canvas fint and tinder trucker I've been wearing in for the last six years.

      I am still fairly new to collecting raw and selvage denim. I have had raw in the past years ago, but went on the hunt to replace an old selvage jacket (I doubt the jacket is actually selvage, they just slapped a selvage ID on it), and found Brave Star. I've been into bags and heritage wear for some time. But getting more into selvage seems like I have come back home. I wish there were some local makers or shops to check out. But unfortunately Scranton, PA is the last place you would find any mes wear. So next trip to Philly, it is a stop a Franklin' and Poe.

      @@jeffgrantMEDIA I think I have some brave star and gustin around here those two are actually affordable. Unbranded is fairly affordable for selvedge too.

      @jeffgrantMEDIA  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@jonuiuc Soso Brothers are actually pretty affordable as well. $200 starting price for a Shashiko jacket is pretty dang good.

    I just saw they restocked a bunch. How are they able to sell these jackets so cheap?

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA
      @jeffgrantMEDIA  Před 4 měsíci

      They are using as much US made materials as possible. So it’s cheaper. Japanese denim (American made companies) is pricy due to the high imports on the fabric. Naked and Famous is pretty cheap as well because they do not have the same high imports in the denim.

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA
      @jeffgrantMEDIA  Před měsícem +1

      @@Baja13North hot water soak. The hotter the water, the more the jacket will shrink.

      @@dark_gravity_edc I have only passed through Alabama, but I did live in Florida for a time.... I would not be able to physically do Redline if I was still there... maybe Indigo Invitational.... Jeans always seem easier to wear in hot temps.
