- Welcome to the first video in a series that will result in a comprehensive review of the new Colt Python. This video sets up the first of two articles I'll be running on Shooting Illustrated about this gun, where we answer the question of just how durable the new Python is. To conduct this Colt Python review, I'm going to shoot 2000 rounds through it, including 500 of full power 357 Magnum. We'll record every shot fired and do a 2000 round montage at the end of the review as well!

I ordered a 6" Python. Kind of wish I'd ordered a 4". BTW, it's not a nickel finish. It's polished stainless.
the 6" is just so front heavy man.
The new Python's barrel is 4.25''
@@AlbertoJorgeSoares Sometimes referred to casually as 4" or 6". No biggie......take care....
@@tomfile3131 I thought you just didn't know it, that's all.
@@AlbertoJorgeSoares It's all good my brother....enjoy.....
Love Pythons. I had two back in the 80's, a 6" and 4" , both blue. Beautiful guns and so smooth shooting and accurate. Wish I still had them...
This is my EDC. Galco Phoenix Holster Black. Looks just awesome.
You have to train to improve your draw speeds, but one well placed or even not so well placed round will typically end the threat.
That’s .357 for ya! What rounds do you use? Imma 158 gr jhp guy myself.
That's a BIG edc gun !
Beautiful!
As a GP100 Match Champ owner I’d be interested in a breakdown video and parts list on improving that trigger.
Hope you have better luck than my buddy with his Cobra. He's had it back to them three times for various parts breakages in the last two years.
Thanks! Love the revolver content.
I was looking at the S&W Performance Center Model 627...now I got to think about this option...thanks! 🤔
586 speedloaders work great with the Python
Neat. That trigger is real surprising honestly.
This gets me excited
Proud owner of a 6" model, myself and I've been wildly impressed. It's a terrible way to begin owning revolvers because now I set the bar pretty dang high. I've had no issues mechanically with mine as others have reported. The only issue I had was that my rear sight set screw was not set, and I did it myself. No big deal. I have had a small handful of cosmetic issues that I will be addressing with the handgrip manufacturer. The Colt medallion on the right side is proud a fair amount, while the left side feels properly inset. The slot on the screw is also not square. While hard to describe in text; it's not directly down the center of the screw head. These haven't interfered with the function whatsoever, and it's run like a dream. Plenty of snap cap dry fires as well and zero issues on the lockup or opening that others have also reported. I've only fired 158g .357mag rounds through mine.
What I have noted is that there is some play on the cylinder release lever that if gunky, can make opening tough which feels like the source of main issue there. It's a dovetail type fitment and it comes stock with a fair bit of play, to its detriment, and allows for more post fire junk to build up. Food for thought.
Impressive weight on that S&W in DA.
Great unboxing CG! It will be interesting to see if the gun will stay in time with the .357 ammo and your projected overall round count. No doubt you will punish it! Carry on!!! 🔫💯👍🏼
The new Pythons are supposed to be more beefy and less likely to get out of time.
I'd be curious to see if the trigger pull is the same after you've put all the rounds through it. I know my 686 feels (subjective as hell) much smoother than when it was new. I have almost 1500 rounds through it so far.
I like the aesthetics (shooting some under 500 rounds with the old one), nice smooth way it shot.
I dont dig pull back to open cylinder/reload.
Preference goes to push buttons. Did not have opportunity to try new one yet.
Yesss. Carry it.
It's in my dream, I want it. But in fact, I have owned the Ruger GP 100. The Colt Python still continues in my dream. It's price is more $5,500 in my country.
I'll be interested to see how that rear sight plays with AIWB.
Well I'll probably make it rust for starters
Have all the issues been fixed now?
I'm so jealous that you somehow I enjoy the QR code.
I absolutely loath it.
Between this... a nighthawk custom(Agent2)... and probably the first revolver I’m gonna buy, a GP100(9mm or 357?) thanks to u sir!, this is a dream. The Python was the first gun I ever wanted as when I was a kid playing Resident Evil for the first time on PlayStation, the character Barry carried a .357 Python. Man this thing looks amazing... thanks for this video! And interested to see the rest of the videos on this.
PS- I’m from Connecticut and had no idea colts were manufactured here?
Glad you brought up that game, honestly. I knew in the back of my gun nut mind that's what he had back then, but they've changed the skin on the newer renditions. That game is also what got me turned onto Beretta 92FS models. If/when I get one, I plan on getting some custom grips to match Jill Valentine's.
@@RolandsDad hahaha yessss!!! I love resident evil everything about it was amazing. First game that turned me on to guns especially with Jills Beretta. Oh how about Weskers tricked out 1911. Lol. Still think Barry’s colt python was the most badass in the game. I remember going “9x19 parabellum rounds”... what the heck are those?? Lmfao
Is the trigger weight and feel comparable to the newer cobra and king cobra?
I really like the python
I have one in all flat black looks nice
Which oil is it that you prefer? Speaking of the gun, I haven’t watched the video yet though I will right now, I’ve been looking at prices online and I see some going for like 1500 and then some that are like 3500. I’m guessing it’s the older ones that are more expensive?
Just got mine today paid 1599 1705 after taxes
Lucas oil 🛢 is just fine. Perfect consistency.
DAMN THAT GUN LOOKS GOOD 👀
Shoots good too
I just want to know when they are going to release the python snubbies.....
3 mins to open the bloody box 🤤
I think that with HKS speedlaoders would fit well in this new pthon, even the ones for L frames. The ones for Python would be more sure that fit weel in it. (forgive my bad English)
I had my GP100 Match Champion by my side while cleaning one of my black powder pistols when you pulled out your GP100. I had to do a double take.
Really looking forward to the rest of this.
ahhh... this is my therapy :)
Nicely done sir, thanks for the video.
Sooooo jelly! Great review mate!
How long did you have to wait to get it?
A couple of weeks
What model was the black revolver with the red dot?
I wonder if the frequent misfires have been improved.
It did 160 rounds today with including some Armscor and Fiocchi primers with no issues
Mine with a 4000 serial number that I bought back in July has shot right around 300 rounds of various .357 and 38 flawlessly.
How many dollars Colt python.?
Looks pretty cool, any updates?
How sturdy is the ejector rod?
It's sturdy enough to whack, slap, strike, pop, or smack.
Just don't hit it like an asshole.
What's the name of ffl dealers name? I need that gun
This is a writer's sample that I got direct from Colt, which means when I'm done with the review I either have to send it back to them or pay them.
Hey Kaleb are you still working for Taurus?
Yes
What revolver is the black one?
That’s a S&W 586 L-Comp that has been tuned by a custom gunsmith
@@MrRevolver ok thanks for me that one is the best revolver and the manhurim mr 73
Thank You Caleb for the video varry nice gun. I will be checking out prices on that one. 😀
I’m down. Looking forward to this. A couple thousand rounds isn’t really a lot of rounds. But....
When you realize most folks on the gun forums don’t actually shoot much? This should placate them.
We know it will handle 38 special. You should've used full house 357 magnums all the way thru.😕
it's not the pressure, it's the speed of rapid double action that damages guns
The rear sight stinks should have put a Ellison sight on it or the original colt sight
My dad grabbed a new Colt last month, I was not impressed. Oh, GBX5600 G Shock. Nice
I hate MA, but I also hate Colt for not getting the Pythons approved for sale in MA. I don’t really have any interest in the older snake guns beyond aesthetics, but I really want a new one to kick around.
@blake Burns lol yes that will solve the problem. I should uproot my life, get rid of my house, my family home and business of three generations, and move somewhere else just to buy a revolver.
Checks out. 👌
@blake Burns Huh, that's funny because I have a degree from MIT and I run a company/design complete systems for neurosurgery. I guess I should sell my company move to another state and see about setting up a lemonade stand, Blake.
FYI Colt has a long history of simping for gun-control and not selling to the commercial market, but I am sure you know all about that.
@blake Burns MIT isn’t an Ivy league school, smart guy.
Colt has been neutering it’s commercial rifles long before 94 they preemtivly started removing killy-features in the late 80’s and made their lowers incompatible with their military counterparts. They’ve always had ass-backward policy’s toward civilians and quick to bow to gun-control efforts. Their refusal to release their latest designs and failures to innovate is the reason why their business went in the shit-can when mil/gov sales dropped off.
8-shot 9mm Anaconda when?
Theres an 8 shot n frame smith right now!
It doesn’t seem like the Python didn’t make the grand comeback everyone hoped it would have for some reason.
It’s pretty solid took a year wait to get mine without having to go on gunbroker and pay double the amount I paid for mine .
@ARMORER1911 well said !
Yea it has, most FFL's can't stock them fast enough.
Gotta stop watching your videos...watched this one 2 weeks ago, picked up my new Python 2 days ago...you are a bad influence on me!!!
5 minutes of a box....
Stuffs around the table are really distracting.
You couldn’t be more feminine
what an odd comment
@@MrRevolver You are odd--
Are you knocking on his closet?
@@MrRevolver Honestly, it's the most agreeable thing I've seen in the comments and off your video
Give up the guns.
never.
