    Thanks for the video, I always imagined some sort of connection relationship with the drive cog assembly and the skid in my head, so I didn't understand how to remove the whole skid easily. The cog drive stays in place, thank you!

    Just wanted to say your video was very helpful! Removing the skid ended up not being as hard as I thought. Putting it back on is a different story. Now I see why there is like 1 or 2 videos on reinstalling skids. My daughter was hanging out while I was trying to put skid back in. She uhm.. learned a few new words that day, and skid still isn't in. And there is about 8" of snow outside.

    Sorry I wan't able to help you with this - Often times it can help to use a ratchet strap to compress the suspension in getting it back in as well. yes, the re-install of a suspension can be the hardest part of the whole deal. Glad you were able to get it worked out.

    I have a question about the availability of parts. Do you think that a front track suspension arm would be still available for a 1990 Arctic Cat Prowler 440? The arm is destroyed due to a broken weld. This is my only sled, I am hoping to get it ready before the snow hits. Thanks for any info!

    Often times you have to use a ratchet strap to compress the skid back a bit to squeeze it back in.. You do have to wrestle it a bit.

      that will help. also you can use a small ratchet strap to collapse the suspension to help alignment too.

    Ok...I had to jack it over on it's side, but it's done. I hate the weight of the damn thing! It's all good now, one more idler bolt and two adjustments, we should be good to go. For the record, changing a sled track on an older sled is not very easy, relative to other wrenching work. Thanks for the advice y'all

    Thanks for the video. I am having an issue, though: when removing the two front bolts, they just spin in place. I can't see a place to hold to other side that would make me able to unscrew them. Do you have any tips?
    PS. The whole reason I am doing this is because my whole rear end suddenly dropped. It's lost all movement, and sits bottomed out. Would that be caused by the spring/shock near the front of the skid, or would it be something else? Help would be much appreciated!

    • @kylecarlson1847
      @kylecarlson1847 Před rokem

      Easy way is a good impact. It will loosen the bolt up before the hole shaft will spin. Or take a wrench and smack it with a hammer to bust it loose fast so it won't spin.

    I have replaced the track on my 96 polaris xlt touring (133.5" track-xtra 12) and had bearings and hyfax replaced along with having the shocks checked. I can't get it back in the sled, have you got a video showing how to compress the xtra 12 suspension? I unloaded the springs and the shocks coming together at the top of the suspension won't let it drop much. Any tips would be appreciated!

    • @lynnwagaman
      @lynnwagaman Před 2 lety +1

      Ratchet strap the “front” of the skid to the “ back” of the skid. I made a loop with the strap on each side. One side at a time. The skid moves along the same lines as compressing the skid. This method is easy to make small adjustments until the holes line up.
      Hope this helps

      There are two bolts in the trunk area that go all the way through the tunnel. Undo those two and the snaps up front you should be able to slide it back

    Hi one of my limiter straps broke on my 2001 arctic cat triple touring sled . does the skid have to come out to replace the one broke strap? Briefly looking under the sled it looks intimating . It is a new to me sled and I had it out riding solo and the rear end was all over the place on the trail . fish tailing like crazy. Will that one strap being broke cause that?

    • @JeepsOnTheRun
      @JeepsOnTheRun Před 7 lety

      No, you can do it w/o taking the skid out. Maybe use a ratchet strap to take some tension off the system which will help you getting the new strap on. Yes one broken strap is worse than no straps! Makes for a scary ride! :)
