Welcome back to another episode of Teachers Off Duty, where we delve into the world of our beloved custodians! I'm KC Mack, joined by my co-hosts Bri Richardson and Mike Rivera. Today, we're sharing some of the most outrageous and downright funny custodian stories in the classroom.
We're tipping our hats to the unsung heroes who aren't just janitors but our confidants, the ones who've heard it all - from student antics to the mysteries of the overflowing toilets.
Brace yourselves as Bri recounts the epic tales of our custodial saviors braving the frontlines of student vomit. It's messy, it's gross, but hey, someone's got to do it!
But it's not just us teachers with wild stories. Bri takes us down memory lane with a tale of her own school day shenanigans, involving some intentional floor art. And speaking of artistic endeavors, we own up to our teenage bathroom graffiti escapades.
The action heats up with a custodian turning into an Indiana Jones figure, with a story about a pet snake’s tragic encounter in the school corridors.
And finally, we end on a heartwarming note with a tale of a custodian who brings the magic of the Polar Express to life for the students every year.
So, join us on this hilarious, custodian-celebrating journey on the Teachers Off Duty Podcast and Remember to hit that like button, subscribe, and share with all your fellow educators for a good laugh. - Komedie
Our hall's custodian was out this week, and it was obvious. He takes such good care of us! I teach students with severe disabilities, and he always pops in to say hello to them and see if we need anything. Shout out to Mr. STEVE!!!
Finally! Janitors 100% are amazing. I was friends with all of mine at the school and they are the BEST
I make decorated sugar cookies. After my teacher appreciation sale a teacher reached out to me and ordered cookies for the custodial staff. I made them colorful apples with colorful pencils just like the ones I made for the teacher. Each cookie was customized with their names. I was so thrilled with the order that I gave her a discount because not only did she deserve it because of her thoughtfulness but because the custodial staff deserves so much love for their hard work!
That’s very kind
Not me dying at “I’ll slap that hat”! Bri is too funny🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂
My son's 1st grade class in California dissected squids a few months ago. It was fun for them and even pulled out the ink sack and used it to write their names on paper. I didn't even know 1st graders did this. My son goes to a gifted magnet elementary school.
I did this with 2nd- 5th graders during our summer program. It was a trunk show through The Aquarium. It was very cool!
I didn’t do any dissecting, but in my 8th grade health science class, our teacher brought in a cow heart for the class to see and touch - he gave us gloves and showed us the different chambers and aorta, and let us pick it up by the tendons! Junior High was a very rough time for me that I’ve tried to forget a lot of, but that was a core memory that has stuck with me for sixteen years. I’m currently in my second semester of University to become a secondary English teacher, and y’all have given me so much motivation while I do full time work and school - thank you for all you do!
Leo is awesome. My kindergartners loved it.
I taught 40 years-mostly middle school science. Lots of stories-including a bat…but NEVER had a student get sick in my class!
It’s called Zorbent. If you have messy kids parents
At my middle school we dissected owl pellets in 6th grade and that was it. In high school if you took the general science courses to graduate we didn't dissect anything.
They are the best. I was a sub, and he scolded me hard for cleaning up after the kids went to PE. The school only had 2 classes and 20 kids TOTAL in the school ( very rural). I needed that scolding.
In 5th grade, we dissected owl pellets. In 7th grade, we dissected frogs. In my anatomy and physiology class my junior year of HS, we dissected fetal pigs
Woop - does this mean Bri is here to stay on the pod?! You made my week! Love you all. Have. A good week!❤
I was a teacher here in the uk, now retired. I was brought up, just like Bri said, to treat everyone well.
In my very first classroom i thanked the cleaner when she came to empty the bin. She nearly jumped out of her skin. She explained that not one of the teaching or admin staff EVER acknowledged the cleaning staff!
As well as being basic human decency, it does actually pay dividends if you have good relationships with ancillary staff. I had a school cook who used to make me special vegetarian meals, and when I was pregnant, I always got extra pudding! You bet when I visited the school with my new baby, they ALL got to meet her!
I have to say School Custodians get payed really well and descent. I have seen them buy houses, Yes that is True. There is no shame working as one. School District is the way to go with any job. Payed Holidays as well.!!!!
Geez I WISH you’d come to Sydney Australia!
Just watched "Leo" last week. It was fantastic!
I kept peanut butter cups in my classroom specifically for my custodian.
As a snake owner, the one about the snake breaks my heart. I don’t know what I’d do if that happened to one of mine. Things like that are why we should educate people about snakes and conservation.
Great show!! ❤
We do a custodian appreciation week at my school.
We were supposed to disect frogs in the 6th grade. I walked out of the class.
Great Pod Cast guys! I work at a middle school in West Colorado and they dissect frogs, worms, and chicken wings in 7th grade science. Thank you again for the laughs. I loved the custodian who washed the mirrors with the toilet brush, amazing!!
The kids need to pick up after themselves! I taught science. (Middle school). Lab groups…Person C was in charge of clean-up. NOT that that person needed to clean-up…but supervise. If an orange scissor or orange ruler was on the floor…orange group/Person C…take care of it. (Yes I color-coded everything. Blue slime in the sink…then blue group needs to clean it up!). My custodian did appreciate it!
In Wisconsin at my school my 5th and 6th graders dissect frogs and owl pellets in my class and the do awesome! They love it and the responsibility that comes with being able to do such a “big kid” activity
Hey best friend! I love ms Richardson she tells it like it is
I have dissected a lot! In 5th grade I dissected a cows eye, I dissected sheep brain in middle school, and had to also find a tumor based on scans and symptoms and then take the tumor out with as little damage. Also when I was in a homeschool co op(every grade up until 4th) we would do hands on stuff every day we went(once a week). We dissected things such as owl poop, and chicken feet. Poop to see what they were eating and feet to learn how ligaments and tendons work to move toes. As a prank, we took the chicken feet, pained the nails, and made a necklace. Which we then presented to our principal.
His jersey is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I need one ASAP!!
So in my 5th grade class we didn’t physically dissect a cow eye but our teacher did as a demo. In 7th grade i dissected a frog with a lab partner, again teacher gave us a demo. I was supposed to dissect a fetal pig during my senior year of high school, covid unfortunately didn’t make it possible. Overall it’s a very fun way to teach biology and science
My son’s 7th grade science class dissected earth worms this year to learn about their anatomy.
In Florida we dissected Grasshoppers and earthworms in middle school
I dissected a cow's eyeball in 5th grade a chicken leg and 6th grade and a frog in 7th grade
Yeah I dissected a frog in middle school. This was Texas in the late 90’s
Why you guys have that many pencils my school has no pencils to give to kids!!!
My elementary school took an overnight science field trip in 5th grade and dissected squids on the trip. Ventura, California.
A BAT NOOO 🤣😭🦇
In 8th grade we dissected a sheep eye
In middle school, we directed a few different animals including a fetal pig! This was in California
My daughter is in 6th grade in South Dakota and she has dissected a worm and a pickle 😅
Ya I opted out of that dissection
I get told on Halloween to check my candy too I am 12
I’ve seen Leo. I loved it.
When I was student teaching in 3rd grade there was one day where a HUGE roach just jumping across the front of the room. Then I saw another one in the bathroom. I was not okay for a while 🤣 this was Texas of course cuz the roaches here need to pay rent they’re so large.
Leo was very cute. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but I did like the message.
In 5th and 6th Grade 9our kids have school issued bags to take stuff from class to class....I bet thats what me meant by BOOK bags not back packs. Also my 5th grade daughter disected owl 🦉 poop! She was so grossed out. My 7th grade son disected a worm or something small.
I dissected a frog in 8th grade
I made sure I had a boy partner and made him do most of the work 😅
I think it’s sawdust.
Babyface- Whip Appeal
First comment! Happy Sunday friends
Bre my dear, the iguana is not going to hurt you, yall gotta learn how to understand these animals, if you understood and learned about them, you would not be afraid of them, same goes for bats...now roaches, yeah, they are disgusting
Is Mr. Mack single?????????
Yes! Lol
@@KcMack Well you don't have to be... I'm single too! What's up?
@@KcMack🤣😂
Moose everybody run even custodians they deadly. Stags known as the young bucks are able to be run off. Also not actual custodian but work at an events center whew boy the horribleness the parents don't teach their kids
You guys nuked this podcast.
Custodians at my school are lazy and bitter.
Are they black actors on that show?
