(2003 H2) I cut mine open, where the cabin air filter should be, and added one. I siliconed it shut, and painted the whole piece of plastic black again.

Someone needs to slap the engineer that ok’d permanently sealing shut a regular interval service item. 👎

I recently aquired an 03, that's not been modified for the filter.
I have only a temporary solution for now, but I've been able to modify some heavy duty insulation foam to create a formwork for a filter to sit above the blower motor. Accessible from under the windsheild cowl.
I'll eventually fabricate a more permanant solution, but this will help prevent crap from landing in the bower motor to begin with, and be a reason to access this area to clean it out on a regular basis. Might seem weird doing it this way but it's getting clean air through the entire system, more like how a standard home HVAC system works.
Though my final goal would be to give it a dedicated access point like the passenger side decorative vent, or some sort of discrete snorkle.

Update: due to there being significant undisclosed rust damage. The dealership unwound the deal. Shame as I only enjoyed the H2 for 16 days. I hope I can find another one, but I might wait until the car market cools off a little.
It's truly the Fred Flintstone Mobile. (If you catch my drift) note, check under carpets before purchasing.

you can modify the box to accept the filter. the cavity is still there also there should be covers over the holes with a rubber seal around it. you have to remove the whole valence under windshield wipers to get to them. but there should be covers

Yeah the hole in top is the biggest problem at one point I 3d printed a small box to cover the hole leaving a side vent so it can breathe and not let water or leaves in at the same time but I realized I needed to use different plastic to get a stronger box just never got around to finishing the project.

@dailydrivenH2 look around there are actual covers that fit that. May be hard to find but they are out there. Also use some flex seal tape over plastic to cover it. Keep water out

I honestly got really curious after i made the video and tryed to get in touch with some early techs According to some of them only a very few had the filter on and it was removed shortly after just like there was a few first year model with partially covered cloth seats .

What's the reason they didn't add one from the factory? That's ridiculous

Because it's more profitable to keep selling new blower motors.

Cabin filters are a new thing cars where made for a 100 years without them. As others has said it cost them a penny more to make so the bean counters said no

I dont like “Cabin Air filter” in the Hummer make no sense, because this vehicle is made for real soldiers and warriors- had to have it remove pronto- right before I decided to stop the Manufacturing of these sweet Automobiles 6-year later After the deal to Sell the conpany fell through. So, You And Arnold Schwarzenegger could both deal with it!!!
    Sincerely yours
The person who had them remove
    from the Hummers--
