Is it better to rip out your rear seats and throw on carbon fiber body panels, or skip over trying to be light and go straight to making your engine more buff? HP to weight ratio is always talked about when trying to make your ride go faster, but what are the limits to this? Well today, we are going to look at what happens when you get to light, and what happens to you car when you get too buff. Which one is better? Let's go.

Lamborghini did it to meet U.S impact laws and it was easier to use ones already complied.

my 2006 ford escape 5 speed manual came with the same engine as my mazda speed3. It was a 5 second hatchback before all the hot hatches. Its also built upon a focus frame/ focus platform for the first gens that were collabs with Mazda. Thats why i got an ms3 afterwards

Traction+torque curve is more important for everyday driving. I chipped my AWD Ford Fusion Ecoboost 2.0L and the traction from that AWD just helps to plant all that lovely torque all. the. time. I have enough power for a FWD or RWD car to break loose, but that AWD just keeps everything planted and so predictable, it's great.

In addition, you can add power to a light car, but you can't always cut weight to a powerful car... that being said, gofast parts sometimes weigh more ie forged vs cast. I've had 12 ase year tech and I still learn things from this channel Thanks guys keep up the good work
I think there was a tiny mistake here. The graphics showed the "weight to power" ratio which the lower it is, the better. However, the power to weight ratio is always better the higher it is (P2W ratio is always desirable to be closer to 1 or greater than 1). So I think the graphics and the wordings got jumbled up over there.

I had no trouble keeping up with a Turbo Legacy with my little Miata on damp mountain roads. I could out corner it. But the Legacy had the turbo boost power to go up the hills quicker than me.

I recently exchanged my WRX for a Mini and I love it. The mini feels so much more responsive and quick, even if it's just mental.

I exchanged my 5th gen Camaro for a C5 Z06, and even that little bit of weight difference makes a huge difference.
The LS6 might be making like 40hp less than the LS3, but the car is still faster because it's not obese. Also it can barrel through turns much better lol
I absolutely love my mini, the thing is basically a go kart, I absolutely thrash the damn thing at autocross events. People really sleep on them for things like that

@@Brock_Corb my issue is the lack of entertainment value. we've been complaining about these videos since Jeremiah was brought onto the team. Why don't we see the complaints in the comments anymore? Probably because those people stopped watching, and I'm about to as well. I love Zach, Nolan, and James, but Jeremiah doesn't fit into the picture. From what I've read, too many people have not found him funny and the videos aren't very entertaining or informative. Nobody expects a college course, but the mistakes and lack of information we get here when Jeremiah continues to bring up the fact that he's an engineer is funnier than the lame jokes.

Do you know why this is the case? This video didn't actually explain how reducing weight improves lap times, just the limits of adding more power. I commented somewhere in this thread the actual reason reducing weight improves lap times, but using the tire model they described in the video reducing weight would have no effect on handling...

When ragging it my Old JCW mini would get a hint of wheel spin changing into 3rd, which was over 50mph. Pretty sure if you were trying to get them to spin up you could get that to last.
