- Apple Intelligence is the most important announcement from Apple in nearly a decade. A lot of what was announced is not new - but no matter how jaded you are to all of this, I’m asking you to take a step back and hear me out because the intention and purpose behind Apple Intelligence is new- and it’s a game changer. Quite literally, after this, nothing will be the same. Not just for Apple- but for everyone else too.

Because nobody gives a shit about this AI train.
Strange that Google gets criticized for not putting Gemini nano models on cheaper Pixel 8a and forced to do it after getting called out and Apple demanding minimum iPhone 15 Pro for their "on-device" models receiving applause for being privacy champions.
with apple, the 15 pro is the only iphone that's even capable of running it (8gb of ram). with google, we've actually seen other phones with the same hardware limitations as the pixel 8a (like the S24) run gemini nano. but even those phones have _at minimum_ 8gb of ram too. apple's stinginess over ram is definitely catching up to them, but it's not like they explicitly decided not to port ai to older devices. in fact, they even say on the announcement page that most of those features will come to older devices in future updates.
Well in John Grubera WWDC interview they admitted it could theoretically run on older devices but the response times would be unacceptable.
Because 99% of Google Assistant/Gemini usage will require an internet connection - to access Google's servers that will then process the task at hand - and return a response to your phone.
Apple is aiming at on-device ML processing, which has the lowest latency, and works in areas with poor to no internet connection.
Yeah, it sucks that all but the current high-end iPhone & iPad models won't get Apple Intelligence, but going forward, all Apple devices will, which is not something you can say about Android.
Apple's AI is impressive because they actually (at least they marketed) want the ML algorithms to be useful in productivity of the end-user, instead of for just some "party tricks" that you will use occasionally.

At this point AI is just a buzzword they use to get the attention of people looking to latch on to the current fad. Most people conflate traditional AI with generative AI and couldn't tell you the difference if their life depended on it.
what is the difference between traditional AI and generative AI?
@@nelsonang Traditional AI is derived through explicit programming, whereas generative AI derives insight from data, allowing it to create something unique without explicit programming.
Traditional AI has been used in common, every day items and applications for decades. Voice assistants, image recognition for face unlock on phones, and ML-based financial fraud detection are all examples.
Generative AI hasn't really hit any amazing strides to be considered widely useful until mid 2010's and many believe current generative AI has hit a wall/plateau.
AI is “The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior”. virtual intelligence mimics human decision making by using math and predetermined factors. Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, should be intelligent enough to make decisions as changes and events are occurring. This is not AI. Not yet. IMO
@@allste626I dislike Generative AI as much as the next guy but OpenAI has proven time and time again that that theory is false. Every time we say AI has plateaued, they come up with a new model which is equally as mindblowing as the last one. 4o's voice skills are unbelievable, for example.
@@Onaterdem I mean, you're just objectively incorrect. There is nothing super impressive about it; it's just the data sets it's been trained on and they did a good job. There is nothing ground-breaking about it, unfortunately. There is a reason many investors are starting to reassess their investments. There's lots of nice articles about it.
Some other issues, regarding the data sets they are being trained on, are also important to note. Such as how much of that information is harvested from you and I without our knowing and consent. Not to mention, many models have started to show signs of "AI inbreeding" (yes, it's a real thing); meaning they are being trained on data sets that are containing more and more data that has already been generated by AI.
Don't get me wrong, generative AI can be very useful and we will continue to optimize what we are capable of but we have not hit major, ground-breaking strides in quite a while and it is looking (more and more every day) that we won't be hitting any anytime soon. But again, optimization of what we are already capable of (while avoiding inbreeding) is going to lead to more use cases for generative AI.

I would say not. Tim Cook presented Apple Intelligence as a brand-new service/product. Apple Intelligence is all about differentiating itself from Google and Microsoft. Apple can sell more products by simply rolling out the service across all product lines. Yes, it will have to redesign all chips to have 8 GB of RAM and 15+ NPUs, but it’s doable for them.
The A17 8GB cutoff is very bad form from Apple.
@@sjstu For starters, no other device exists that provides AI-on-Device, so there are no benchmarks. Apple is now setting the benchmark. Apple had to decide between giving a poor AI-on-device service or setting minimum tech spec requirements to run the service. The release of the original Apple Maps was an example of this. I live in Australia, and Apple has a 58% market share in the smartphone segment. The quality of Apple Maps over Google Maps has been significant in the last four years since people stopped using Google Maps, but it took Apple 10 years to get to that position, thanks to a bad start. X Australian users have given Google Maps a lot of 💩 because Google dropped the ball on several things.

When comes to Google Maps in Australia, they are definitely behind Apple Maps. Unlike US, Australia are bigger users of public transport and Google has made some stuff ups with its public transport models. In Australia, directions by car or by foot is more accurate than Google Maps. The Default mode is more accurate on Apple Maps than Google Maps. In CarPlay, the ETA indicator on Apple Maps is more accurate than Google Maps. You say all of this like it’s already happened. Like everything announced works and works 100 percent as expected and without issue. You’re literally better at promoting Apple than the actual employees that work for Apple. I appreciate the thoughtfulness, time, and effort that goes into these videos but to say you’re jumping the gun here… would be putting it VERY lightly.
Because it's apple. They always deliver.
Apple meat riding in this video and comments is crazy

Alternate title: "Apple finally brings a bunch of Android features from 2019 to iPhones!"
It's not groundbreaking, it's not special, but it'll be the new standard that other companies will now have to follow
