- Day two dawns, after a hearty breakfast I meet with the friendly Kiwis making up the rest of the tour group. Morning mist engulfs the valley, although the brightness above indicates it won’t be too long before the sun breaks through. Our rail-carts are waiting having been prepared by the "Forgotten World Adventures" guys ready for the day ahead.

Great Rail-cart ride. Scenery is. Beautiful. Great job.
Hi Ted, this is one of my all time favorite rail related trips, it's fun, the scenery is wonderful and staying overnight in the Whangamōmona Hotel is just like something out of a wild west movie, only John Wayne was missing.
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Cheers, I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Excellent as always, Tim...many thanks
Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed it.
Simply beautiful Tim !! Nice work there. James.

SPECTACULAR
GREETING FROM KUWAIT 🇰🇼
Hi, it’s nice to hear from Kuwait, I hope you are all keeping well. Best wishes from Tim in the UK.
Hope your neighbours in Iraq are being nice to you! Nobody ever bothers us in Iceland, or bothers with us! The only invasion we ever get are-tourists!!!!
Thanks for the video Tim, such a beautiful country. Lots of beef cattle in this area!!😎🐓🐓🇬🇧
Hi Christopher, I hope you enjoyed the ride. I love this part of the world, sometimes it look a bit like the UK, then a closer look reveals that most of the vegetation is very different. There are plenty of cows in New Zealand, milk products and beef are among its most lucrative exports.

Hi Tim! Beautiful shots, just like you are used to. Happy Easter again and nice egg pecking. But don't take your own. Best regards from Hans. Cheers Tim. 🍻🇦🇹
Cheers Hans and all the best to you and your family. Happy Easter. Tim.

Saw that you got mentioned in the Washington Post today . . . nice! 👍
Cheers, that's nice to know :-)
Douglas at 48:39 is where the old railway coaches were scrapped back in the day, among them the old 'Northener' passenger sets that ran between Wellington and Auckland.
There isn't even a siding there now, I'd like to see photos taken at that time, come to that there aren't many photos of this line at all.
Watched parts one and two. Am now parked with a mug of hot chocolate ready to watch part three.
I hope you enjoy it.
Hi Tim. There don't appear to be many photos around of Douglas now, at the time of NZR scrapping their rolling stock.
That's a pity, it's hard to imagine what it must have looked like, maybe someone will read this and share a photo or two if there are any around. I have one old, small magazine style book about this line, I've searched the internet for more information, there isn't a lot out their, although I have spoken to a few people who either worked on the line or travelled over it. It would nice if someone in New Zealand could capture those memories along with a few photos in a book about the line. One of the early New Zealand Railscene videos shows the last three trains to visit a Whangamomona Republic Day and there is a cab ride over part of the line somewhere on CZcams.
Great memories for me , worked that area as a Locomotive Assistand, ( Fire man ) 1957- 60. Thanks for the Memories.
Wow, it must have been awesome to ride on the footplate of a steam engine along this fascinating route, I wish it was still possible today, although these rail-carts are a wonderful experience.
@@Timsvideochannel1 It was a great experience Tim, though in my time we had the Oil fired version Locomotive, though i did have once which was the last of the Coal fired on the Stratford Taumaranui, line, and the Standard journey was Stratford To Tangarakau, return. The scenery was then amazing in all climates, i'm surprised that the Tourism Rail Newzealand have not extended their in that regions. If you get the Chance travel The Road system you'll not be disappointed. Thanks Again for your Video.
@@manehape1115 Hi I've travelled with Steam Incorporated from Paekākāriki to Whanganui behind Ja1271, whilst not the SOL it gives a fair idea of what it must have been like to travel over the SOL. Did you cross a North bound train at Tangarakau, changing trains to return to your home depot? I've driven the Forgotten World Highway a number of times at different times of the year, it's one of the highlights of my trips to New Zealand. I've also driven from New Plymouth to Ohura along a road that is still gravel for much of its length - czcams.com/video/H5NQIu-uSTk/video.html This is my last trip along the forgotten World Highway - czcams.com/video/KtqjyI5UTBA/video.html
@@Timsvideochannel1 Gday tim, standard shift, Stratford to Tangarakau, change and return, unless hold ups either end, notifications were telegraphed, prior, Stratford was my second depot, transferred from Whanganui to fill a vacancy, thoroughly enjoyed the job place, people i had contact with, Stratford was an eye opener for a country boy, great place and people, living in a single mens quarters, more memories. 1960 Transferred Palmerston North Loco Depot, i wont bore you anymore but work region were, Palmy to Paekakariki, Palmy Napier and Palmy Taihape , thats with the Express Roster, mainly Ka Loco's, Loathed Diesels. Thanks again Tim for the Memories, am still in touch with friends of the time though a lot have passed, away still missed.
@@manehape1115 Gosh, your career on the railway sounds like my idea of a dream come true, you worked the trains during their halcyon period, when steam was still king and famous trains served every major Kiwi destination. There are some wonderful old cine films on CZcams showing trains along the Kapiti Coast and the change of traction at Paekakariki, plus all those old "New Zealand National Film Unit" public information films available on CZcams these days. I had the pleasure of travelling up front with the driver of the "Overlander" as it was then between Palmerston North and National Park, he was due to retire the following week, he showed me the old tunnel entrances from the days before the NIMT was realigned for electrification and explained how part of the hillside was slowly slipping, the new viaducts look so delicate, it's hard to believe they can support heavy trains and withstand earthquakes. He also told me of the time his train was bought to a stand by heavy snowfall. You have some wonderful memories, thanks for sharing a few of them. All the best. Tim.
Haha you just missed our house coming up on the left at 39:36!
Wow, you live in a lovely part of the world.
Mind-blowing trip! Was this a converted golf cart? do they run on batteries? Tim, I stopped receiving notifications from your channel, I stumbled upon this video by accident, from another channel! I will see all the parts of this wonderful trip)))
Cheers, I'm pleased you enjoyed it, one of my all time favorite rail experiences. I cut the number of adverts appearing on my videos because it spoils the viewer experience, now I seem to be paying the price as views have plummeted as a result of CZcams no longer recommending my videos. If channels don't agree to sell CZcams sourced franchise (overpriced mugs, Tee Shirts, calender's etc) or to videos being ruined by too many adverts or do any of the other things like chat and premiers then the algorithm ignores the channel resulting in a massive drop in viewing figures. It's a shame CZcams used to be such a great platform, now it's all about money, not quality or enjoyment.
@@Timsvideochannel1 It seems to me that this is not about money, advertising, and the sale of goods. CZcams has relied on artificial intelligence, views are dropping on almost all channels, and with them the income from views. Recently, there are too many restrictions on the platform. Sometimes CZcams puts an 18+ limit on stories where a train rides in the forest, the story falls under the filter and is not watched, I have to write an appeal to CZcams on the stories, also several times the entire channel falls under some filter, and views fall by 5-7 times, now the views have dropped and since March 24, CZcams has been unsubscribing 20-70 people a day and no one subscribed.
@@_RailWay_ Artificial intelligence without human intervention has become a problem, because it reacts to what has happened, its not very good at predicting what will happen because I don't think it looks at the success of a channel, just its last video. I know some of my videos will not do well, even though the content is interesting and I've put a lot of effort in, because the title will not contain the right keywords for whatever is trending on the day. I don't make videos for money, I simply enjoy sharing my hobby, I no longer fit in with what CZcams is about. It's not the first time this has happened, I hope the algorithm is tweaked to recognize that some channels have loyal audiences, my subscriber numbers at 70.2K is OK whereas the number of views is good at over 26 million with an average view duration of 8 to 11 minutes. I sometimes feel that CZcams is pressuring me to make the kind of video that the algorithm will pick up rather than the Video I enjoy making and my audience likes to watch. I think advertisers should pressure CZcams to reduce the number of poor quality, long, boring adverts, because it is wrecking the experience and causing people to turn off rather than paying for the premium Ad free experience. The increase in Ads is also leading to an increased use of Ad Blocking search engines and software. However you look at it creators are loosing out.
@@dominickdominickc6719 Hi, thanks for the heads up, I checked Bit chute out, looks interesting.
What a wonderful adventure! Does freight ever travel these tracks? They appear to be disused.
Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride, sadly there are no trains along this line today, just rail-carts and rail-bikes, although whilst the tracks are in place it is possible that trains might return at some future date. Tim.
A question: the white square signs at the side of the tracks that say 60, 50,...0. Are they old speed limit signs for the old trains? Mileage markers? something else kiwi-specific? Also, sometimes I wish you weren't so anti-tunnel in your videos. Sometimes they are interesting to view when they are old, such as on this trip. Oh, wait. Thank you for Tunnel 3 and Tunnel 1.
Hi, I'm pretty sure they are old speed limit signs, there is no way the rail carts could reach those speeds, on a downhill stretch they might hit 30kms
28:00 Picking up where I left off when my internet dropped out.
good ole Telstra
don't you just hate that
These first few minutes, perhaps *Foggy Mountain Breakdown* by Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs would've been a good music track to add here, but alas that bugbear of copyright........ho-hum!
@Neil Forbes no one wouldnt know what that song is and you should get used to this trend in the future COVID 19 is here to stay so get used to the way of life from now on
Hi Neil, it would be nice to use any music track without fear of attracting a copyright strike, long before I'd ever heard of CZcams I used to edit videos for me own use using whatever music was in my collection.
@@Timsvideochannel1 Same with me. I'd edit and burn to DVD so only family and friends would see my productions.
@@neilforbes416 or use music more closer than the original
@Neil Forbes i got that track LOL

Well...it IS scenic, but awfully noisy. Golf carts? Not quite as wonderful as Speeders. Still fun however.
Hi, I'd love to ride a speeder, it looks like fun. The newer carts are fitted with plastic flanged wheels, they are a lot quieter. This is a wonderful experience, maybe a speeder in the USA next :-)
@@Timsvideochannel1 Are you sure about Speeders being noisier? These carts seem awfully noisy as they are. Have you seen videos with Speeders in them-do they not seem quieter? In any case, I'd try either. Does this exist in Canada anywhere? Iceland?
@@kilowagmagnusson4590 The cart I was riding had metal guide wheels and "yes" they were noisy. On later carts the standard golf cart wheels have been replaced with flanged plastic wheels doing away with the need for guide wheels resulting in a much quieter ride. I am not aware of anything like this in Canada or Iceland, although there are similar vehicles in Holland and France.
If I see a raptor, you won't see me for dust. I might just stay long enough to take a photograph.
obrigado pela carona. estou no bra.sil.
Obrigado, é bom ouvir do Brasil, fico feliz que tenha gostado do passeio.
