  • After a break for lunch at the beautiful lakeside town of Wanaka, located in Central South Island, we set of for the West Coast via the spectacular Haast Pass, driving along the banks of the stunning blue Lakes Hawea and Wanaka before entering the narrow gorge. We stop for a walk along the “Blue Pool Track”, to see the famed translucent “Blue Pools” and the fascinating stone pillars constructed by visiting tourists on old tree trunks and any spare space along the river banks. A few kilometres later we cross the “Gates of Haast Bridge”, shortly after which, we break our journey again to see “Thunder Creek Falls” a place that really lives up to its name. The narrow Pass makes its way down through the temperate rain forest, crossing the Haast River numerous times before the narrow ravine eventually widens into a flat bottomed valley shared by the winding river and our road.
    Haast is a small township consisting of a couple of houses, a garage, a few hotels and a campsite. It is the long single track bridge across the river that really stands out, we drive across stopping to take a few photos, at sunset the bridge looks amazing, glowing gold in the light of the setting sun, the river and darkening mountains forming a dramatic backdrop. We are now on the West Coast proper, most of the time surrounded by rain forest with occasional glimpses of the sea, we stop at several photographic lookouts provided for motorists to take a break and capture some photos of the unspoiled coastline. At Bruce Bay the road is almost on the beach, there are even some dolphins playing in the surf, we leave the Bay to head inland a little still surrounded by ancient rain forest, every few kilometres we come across a creek or a river, with some of them crossed on spindly single track suspension bridges, this place really feels like the back of beyond, very little human intervention, just natural beauty, all too soon we arrive at Fox Glacier, our stop for the night, in the next video we take a closer look at the Glacier itself.

      Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed it, you really know these roads, I bet you could tell a few stories. I just love the scenery, especially a little further up the coast at Pancake Rocks. I have edited and uploaded the next part of this trip on to Hokitika, including a helicopter experience to Fox Glacier, unfortunately a bunch of scam artists have claimed the video, its going to take a week or two to clear the claims, how anyone can claim the sound of waves breaking on the sea shore is actually a piano concerto baffles me. This series of videos will eventually cover many of the roads on both New Zealand's South and North Islands, I hope you will join me for more virtual video adventures. Take care and stay safe. Tim.

    Tim, another stunning compilation. What a backdrop to a tour! The distances, vistas and colours probably get shortened or diminished through the lens, from the ‘actuality!’ But from here it is awesome and magnificent. Thank you for sharing your memories and encouraging travel (when permitted) to New Zealand, especially the South Island. Peter.

      Hi Peter, its hard to take in the beauty when actually there, editing the videos does give a second chance to appreciate it. The camera has difficulty conveying the height of the mountains, they rise almost straight out of the sea with just a thin band of rain forest along the coast, this is especially evident at Fox Glacier, the ice-fields are quite close to the Tasman Sea. Cheers. Tim.

    On a serious note, Tim, had I the opportunity to make a video like this, there are several music tracks by The Shadows that I'd love to be able to use on the soundtrack that would fit this sort of scenery, but damn it all, copyright would get in the way of me using that music! Aww shucks!

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  Před 3 lety

      I love the Shadows music and back in the days before I shared videos on CZcams is regularly used tracks from their "Golden Greats" album.

    • @neilforbes416
      @neilforbes416 Před 3 lety

      @@Timsvideochannel1 I have that album and it's follow-up Volume 2 album. I also used their content on material that I burned to private DVDs, along with material by others, including guitarists, Peter Posa and Mason Williams. How I'd love to use these artists on my CZcams content, but that bugbear of copyright gets in the way.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  Před 3 lety

      @@neilforbes416 Copyright is there to protect the artist, that I understand, although I think it should be time limited to 40 years. The worst abuse I see of copyright is "Thomas the Tank Engine" now worth many millions. If a heritage railways wants to use Thomas characters they have to pay a fortune for the privileged, they even tried to charge the Bluebell Railway for featuring Stepney the Bluebell engine. The Reverend Awdry would be appalled at how his books have been turned into a cynical money making machine.
      CZcams inform me of all the copyright infringements on my videos, I look through them, those that are a straight forward rip off I remove, but those that credit the visual content to my channel or those simply using clips as a back ground to music I don't remove, because as I see, it if they credit the visual content it acts like an advert for my channel, in the same way, when heritage lines feature Thomas characters it acts as an advert for the rest of the Thomas franchise. Greed leads to stupid decisions.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 I would have a 50-year + 1 arrangement. If a song comes out between January and June, 1969, it falls to Public Domain on 1st January, 2020. If the song is issued between July and December, 1969, it falls to Public Domain on 1st January, 2021. After a full calendar period of 50 years, a song, or instrumental track will have earned the composer(s) and/or performers plus whomever else was involved. quite a lot of "moolah", so it's time other people, like us CZcams content creators got to use it. The only thing I would put a blanket ban on, though, is using the song or tune in TV advertising. That should be STRICTLY FORBIDDEN as it's an absolute abuse of the song or tune. With someone like you or me inserting the tune into our video, with due credits, like "Mason Williams] CLASSICAL GAS(M. Williams) 1968 Warner Music" for instance, appearing as text on screen as the tune starts, and we acknowledge the tune in our description panel. It is, after all, common courtesy to recognise the artists, composers and their works.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  Před 3 lety

      @@neilforbes416 Yeah, we are basically in agreement, some savvy composers make good use of CZcams's Content Creator Tools to offer their music for free in return for a credit, a great way for someone breaking into the business to get their name out there. There are a few well know artists who offer their music for free because they got annoyed with other people and music houses making money from their music without passing any on to the original artists.

      I can understand your kids confusion, if they haven't been told, why wouldn't they expect Glacier Park to be anything different to a regular play park. I grew up in a small village, if I was badly behaved I was told I'd be given to the pig man, having no idea that the pig man collected waste food for his pigs I assumed he was half pig/half man, there was no way I wanted to meet such a freak of nature, so I behaved myself.
