- Please join me on a visit to one of the world’s most beautiful locations, set in New Zealand’s scenic Fijordland. The trip starts out along the awesome Te Anau to Milford Sound road with jaw dropping scenery around every bend, towering mountains, pretty rivers, mirror lakes, distant snow fields, moody skies and gravity defying trees clinging to vertical rock faces, wherever the eye roams the scenery entices admirers to take a closer look.
At the point where the razor sharp mountains carved by ancient glaciers appear to finally defeat the road construction crews we dive into the cave-like, unlined 1.2 km Homer Tunnel, emerging to a vista that has to be seen to be believed, before zig, zagging our way down the steep mountain road, with enticingly named photographic lookouts beckoning travelers to stop and capture every scene for posterity. The road levels a little as we follow the very Welsh sounding Cleddaur River to the Milford Sound jetty car parks.
Leaving the camper-van behind, we follow the quirky wooden walkways to get our first glimpse of what has become the subject South Island’s most iconic photograph ‘Mitre Peak’, the ever present sound of the cicadas serenading tourists in the warm sunshine and the jaw dropping scene greeting visitors has to be savoured for a moment or two before moving on to board one of the many pleasure boats waiting to take tourists on a cruise of the fjord.
Almost immediately after departing the jetty we are treated to yet another highlight ‘the Bowen Falls’, vast quantities of water crash down into a fairy tale scene with emerald green trees surrounding the white mist emanating from the water crashing down the rocky mountain face.
We cruise through Milford Sound, emerging into the Tasman Sea having past more waterfalls, some so high they look like sea mist descending gently onto the surface of the fjords translucent green waters. Finally we head back into Milford Sound, stopping of at the “Discovery Centre and Underwater Observatory” where visitors can actually go under the water to watch the natural marine life and learn why the darker coloured fresh water forms a layer on top of the Salt water from the Tasman Sea.
Just as a point of interest the area is often described as the most seismically active zone in New Zealand.

Yes did this trip in 2012. It doesn't matter how good the video is you have to see it in person to appreciate the size and majesty of it all.
Spot on, Milford Sound has to be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.
Amazing landscape!!
I'm pleased you enjoyed it 😁
Magnific!
Thank you 😊
Great video Tim. That leaves you wanting more. This landscape is unique. You always look forward to the next video. I hope you got the mail this morning. Cheers 🍺 Tim.
Hello Hans, I'm delighted you enjoyed Milford Sound, it is one of the most fascinating places I've ever visited, especially those trees that appear to grow out of the rocks and the strange colour of the water caused by fresh water floating on top of sea water. Take care. Tim.
A fantastic journey, a great ride along!!! Thanks Tim...Peace!!!
Bill
Thank you Bill, it was good to have your virtual company.
Tim, that was a brilliant, impressive video. More it was a selection of jaw dropping locations, massive mountains, awesome bends by road and water. Milford Sound and the vistas in all directions are great. Thank you for sharing your memories with complete strangers via your channel.
Stunning! Peter
Hi Peter, It's hard to think of a more spectacular drive, this was the third time I've done it and it still blows me away, just as it did the first time. The camera can never do justice to the Fjord itself, it simply dwarfs the boats in a way that the camera simply can't convey and those waterfalls are magical. As always, it is my pleasure to share these memories. Cheers. Tim.
Hi tim,It's really is a beautiful place,It looks a lot like norway without the rain,Take care cheer's bob. ps coming soon to a venue near you mr negative with his show of one liners.
Catch up time. Great reminder of great trip mate. Least you got sunshine.
This has to be one of the best experiences to be had anywhere in New Zealand, I've been there 4 times now and I must have been so lucky, the weather was fine on every occasion.
Maravilhoso demais.Gratidão,por compartilhar.
Obrigado. Estou feliz que você gostou do vídeo.
This is great! I love that you’re putting your excellent video and editing skills together for some non-train stuff. I’m definitely open to more of this
Hello Brian, I'd originally intended this to be a travel channel with some train trips, the covid restrictions have prevented me from travelling, fortunately I spent 6 weeks touring around Australia and New Zealand in 2019. I've already uploaded the Australian stuff, but I've still got enough New Zealand material to keep me going until Christmas, most of it straight forward touring, some of it off the beaten tourist track, I'm looking forward to sharing it with you. Thanks for your comment, it is appreciated.
Beautifully shot and edited, sir. I enjoyed every moment!
Thank you, your kind comment means a lot to me.
What a great holiday! I bet this years restrictions are spoiling what you usually find to explore and video!
I miss traveling, these are strange times for all us, I had so much planned, now I'm just waiting for the green light to get going again.
Super film!
Thank you 😊
Kia Ora Tim, thankyou its stunning beauty eh. Im looking forward to more of these trippings around my homeland Aotearoa= Land of the long white cloud.
Hello Eileen, I'm loving editing these videos, they bring back so many wonderful memories from my trips to New Zealand. it will take a few more months to complete this tour, hopefully by then I'll be able to visit my son in NZ again.
@@Timsvideochannel1 It will happen eventually Tim. On 14th Sept my longtime friend and I will be tripping south, down Dunedin way for 2 wks. Hope to visit bluff cos we have visited Cape Reinga many yrs ago. I have seen the North Island now im living in S Island, i have years to visit further south.
@@eileenlynetteadams9182 Hi, i hope you and your friend have a wonderful time in and around Dunedin, I love the Otago Peninsula, its a wildlife haven and so beautiful. The coastline is made up of dramatic cliffs, idyllic little bays and glorious sandy beaches. The town itself has a real Scottish feel to it, with all the beautiful stone buildings owing much of their architectural inspiration to the original Granite City (Edinburgh), Dunedin Station is one of the most attractive building in all of New Zealand, framed by wonderful gardens, its probably the most photographed scene in Dunedin. i wish I was there.
Fantastic 🏞 thank you 👏🏞
Thank you, it's nice to know you enjoyed it.

Truly breathtakingly beautiful Tim. I am mesmerized! 🤗👍🥰
Here and Lake Bled are the two places I've visited where I literally cried tears of joy 😊.
@@Timsvideochannel1 When you are on a boat in a lake surrounded by tall mountains, the views can be spectacular. New Zealand is a beautiful country as well. I had a boyfriend from New Zealand when I was younger and he loved traveling. I went to quite a few places with him and he was a great companion. But after a while he was too much of a 'gypsy' for me. Girls want to settle down eventually; well most of them want a reliable type to be with. Funnily enough I travelled more with my husband than with the ex boyfriend and my husband is not into travelling that much. His family is from Chile, mine from Serbia, so there was a lot of flying to and fro. 🤗
@@OmniaInNumerisSitaSunt Apart from school exchange and day trips to France, I didn't really go overseas until I was 25 or so, then over the next few years I went to Spain, Italy and Yugoslavia. My parents owned a Villa in Spain, so we went there quite often. I didn't travel outside Europe until my son and youngest daughter moved to New Zealand and China, I sometimes wish I had travelled more when I was younger, as it was I got married at 19 bought a house, settled down and had children. I've made up for the travel I missed when I was younger and I plan on doing a lot more as time, money and Covid permits. One of my friends in New Zealand married a woman from Chile, there is a railway there that he wants to take me see, he says you have to see it to believe it and that's from a man who drives trains in New Zealand. The people we meet play a big part in the way our lives work out 🙂.
@@Timsvideochannel1 You married so early Tim. I was 24 when I got married and my daughter was born a year later. I must admit that real travel is less interesting for me the older I get. With the world in disarray and covid on rampage I am quite happy to be home looking after my chooks, gardening and cooking. I also like reading books about religion and metaphysics and tapestry making. Plenty to keep me busy. I am more of a homebody now. I travel on YT these days.
As for Chile, it is a beautiful country too. Interestingly enough my older brother-in-law was a train-driver in Chile but just before he passed away he was working in the office. He was a heavy smoker (the pipe was always in his mouth) and they had to remove part of his lungs from which he never really recovered. When I saw him for the last time, he was in a bad shape but he kept reminiscing to us about the good old days on the trains and how he would have loved to take us everywhere around Chile.
@@OmniaInNumerisSitaSunt "Yes" I got married early at 19, I was 23 when my son arrived, I was young and fit enough to be able play football alongside my son and we all went to swimming lessons together. It was nice to be able to join in rather than be a bystander as is so often the case today, now that many couples don't have children until they are in their 40's. My wife isn't really interested in travelling unless it is to see the kids or to sunbathe on some idyllic beach, fortunately she doesn't mind me going off on my own. Hopefully I will get to Chile one day, your older brother-in-law sounds like a colourful character, Oh well back to work now 🙂.

To visit New Zealand, is to see Mother Nature still creating the wonderful landscape we enjoy today. Volcanoes, earthquakes and glaciers are all a normal part of daily Fiordland life. It is an amazing place.
beneden bij de bowen fals ligt voor een vermogen aan gols/goud.Tim.
Thanks Tim, you did abetter job than the BBC slow TV trip. Pity you can't do a few more around here, Love them all. P.S. you don't have to edit these trips, just make them a bit longer. Pete on the Isle of Wight.
Thank you Pete, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I'm editing several videos showing New Zealand’s Central North Island and Volcanic Highway at the moment, deciding the length of the clips is a difficult choice, I tend to make them a little longer where I can because these videos aren't documentaries, they are intended to be relaxing with just a few captions about the places visited. As UK restrictions ease a trip to the Isle of Wight is looking likely, because I don't think world travel will be opening up any time soon. Cheers. Tim.
Very nice video, greetings from Brazil.
Hello, I am pleased you enjoyed visiting Milford Sound with me. Best wishes from England.
Thank you, I am pleased you enjoy these videos, I would really like to visit South America, from other peoples videos, I know it is an amazing place with incredible landscapes.
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Axl Brayan Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Ah, okay, a nice road trip video with which to relax and unwind......Let 'er rip, Tim!
Hello Neil, I kept the speed down so you don't have to wear your seat belt for this one.
@@Timsvideochannel1 That's good. I need to get a new one. The last one snapped after one of your high-speed rail trips! LOL

@@eileenlynetteadams9182 Well.... it was the right "calibre"! LOL
New Zealand is a post card just waiting for someone to snap a pic.
I couldn't put it better, it is a beautiful place.
12 minutes in, they should call this Mercedes Road for all the Benz(bends) in it! LOL
You should have been on the radio with all those one liners.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I used to do community radio here in Australia!
@@neilforbes416 I knew that from earlier comments, that's why I slipped it in 😉
@@Timsvideochannel1 I haven't done radio for over 12 years now and my departure from the station, to which I gave 10 years of my life, still rankles as it was an unfair and unjust expulsion. I tried a couple of times to rejoin but a second rejection, based on the same lies told about me in March, 2008 has meant I no longer want anything to do with radio at all.
@@neilforbes416 That's a shame, I'm sorry to hear it ended on a sour note.
