im not taylor swifts’s biggest fan but honestly I think she handled this situation with so much class the whole time. first, she was humiliated in public by kanye and she ended up forgiving him, even presenting him an award years later and joked around with him about the situation. (which 98% of people would never do, I think) and then, like a 1 year after she had to deal with this crazy guy again making a nasty song using her name. she doesn’t own him nothing, she never did. and he’s so WRONG for thinking he was the one who made her famous, she was already starting to get big in the industry in 2009, and nowadays she’s HUGE because of her own talent and the fact that she’s also so unproblematic, she never had to undervalue someone on stage or make nasty lyrics like that to get anywhere.

I saw a video where Taylor Lautner talked about that moment. He said he could hardly hear anything and he thought it was a pre planned skit, that's why he didn't interrupt. He didn't know it wasn't until she turned around and he saw the look on her face. I'm assuming it was the same for most people, they didn't realize it wasn't planned until it was over and she didn't finish talking.

The creepiest part of that Famous video is that Kanye not only put Swift right next to him, he put her at his right hand.
It was wild watching that back in 2009. I was 17 at the time and really into screamo, pop punk, alternative music but always really connected to Kanye’s music. When the vma debacle happened I felt bad for Taylor, but thought that Kayne was being overly villainized by the public and the media. Cut to Taylor’s 1989 era - she was everywhere socials, award shows, paparazzi shots and I was becoming a big fan. I went back through her catalog and really loved Speak Now. That all came to stop when Famous was released and the Taylor voiced her disapproval, then the phone conversation leak came out. I thought wow not only did she lie, she monetized being a false victim in look what you made me do. It was easy to jump in the hate train with her model squad, genre /aesthetic jumps and seemingly throwing Kayne under the bus - it seemed like she was this calculated person always looking for the next headline. After the full phone conversation was released it made me realize that I had been holding way too much against her (with the worst offense not even being true) and missing out on some amazing music. All this to say that I’m in my Swiftie era and can’t ethically listen to Kanye now. Funny how life changes 😅

It’s obvious in the Entertainment Tonight interview after that VMA incident with Kanye 09 in the clip she said she was a fan of Kanye and how she didn’t know him personally and she didn’t wanna start anything with him, looking like she was about to cry.
