  • Welcome back to the second part of the 2012 Ford Ranger T6 project, in this video we show how to remove the rear tub bolts and wiring, clean up all the mud and start having a look at just how bad the chassis really is.
    I managed to get the 6 bolts holding down the tub off without snapping or rounding them off which made life a little easier, most of the electrics came off without a problem too, the rear reversing indicator didn't want to play ball and I actually snap a screwdriver trying to remove it so the wires were cut and will be reattached later
    Cleaning consisted of brushing off the dry mud, pressure washing the chassis then using a needle scaler to knock off the major rust and a knotted wheel wire brush on the angle grinder to get back to what's left of the metal
    The Chassis is really bad, a lot worse than initially thought and in reality needs to be replaced but unfortunately I just don't have the time at the moment with everything else going on so we're going to make the best of a bad situation and patch it for now, if I'm being totally honest I wouldn't do this extent of repair for anyone else but as I do my own servicing etc I'll be more aware of any potential issues and be able to keep a close eye on things, if the truck stays long term then it will probably end up having the chassis replaced just for peace of mind
    thanks for watching and for subscribing, see you again shortly

    Hellou, How can you easily get to the fuel pump?

    • @paulsprojects1
      @paulsprojects1  Před měsícem

      easiest way would be to drop the tank down unless you have the bed off the back as the pump is situated in the fuel tank

    Any idea how much the tub weighs?

    • @paulsprojects1
      @paulsprojects1  Před měsícem

      no but with the rear supported by the engine lift it was easily manageable weight wise, needed two people to lift more due to its size and awkward shape etc

    You dit a really great job cleaning it !
    it's my frist time seeing a needle scaler it seems to do a good job to be honest, i was wondering when you're replacing and welding part like that did you spray or use any product to protect the inside of the chassis from the old rust surface, (since you can't properly clean the inside) or did you use oil to prevent it going further and eating from the inside ?

    • @paulsprojects1
      @paulsprojects1  Před rokem +1

      i cleaned off as much rust as possible from the inside, ive used, rust converter and upol weld through primer on the inside before closing it back up and once the outside has had its final coat of paint ill be spraying in some Noxudol cavity wax as it creeps well into the seems and neutralises the rust

    how much did you get the ranger for??

      I had a good deal on it from a trader after having a good look around and pointing out just how bad it was, he did offer to put a new mot on it for a couple of hundred more but I'm doubtful that it would have been fixed to a decent standard for that

      thanks very much, not had much time on the van lately although we did manage to have the weekend away at 'dubs in the castle' which is always a good weekend, once the ranger is back on the road I'll hopefully have time to finish off the van and sort out a tour of the finished article
