In 1978, my kids lived with me in CT for a year. At one point, I cut off their TV (the 1978 version of "screens")... I'd gotten tired of their fighting over TV shows. Four things happened:
1.) It got quieter,
2.) They started talking to each other and playing games,
3.) The neighborhood kids started dropping in and staying, and
4.) Within two weeks, the house became the hangout for the entire neighborhood. It was a fun summer.
There were "drawbacks." Mostly they were kids saying, "I gotta pee," "I need a drink of water." Also, not to be forgotten, were my pleas to "Quit slamming the screen door" which went unheard... except for an occasional, "Sorreee..." I also bought a lot of paper cups, and we made a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Unfortunately children want things that are forbidden by their parents even more. ....Thx for the warning label after the fact, better late than never...hoping it makes a significant impact...💙

Too few are willing to admit or accept that social media should simply go away. Our lives have suffered immensely from it. The downsides far outweigh the good.
For kids and adults, there’s profound psychological impacts with having access to such information at once with no opportunities to truly disconnect from society. It’s become an addiction and it isn’t just for kids
Absolutely. Dissipated or regulated, such that the harms are no longer present. Social media has very limited utility. And so many harmful aspects.

Completely ignoring the highest risk groups of peoples about suicides and instead focusing on youth. Men and women age 45-54 are the highest risk. Men over 85 are the most likely to commit suicide and data from 2022 shows Native Americans and Native Alaskans were the top highest risk for suicide in the U.S.
Its not the youth!!! But hey,why worry about 45-54 year olds. All sold lies our entire lives...... "the American dream". The dream of being worked daily for 40 years and still have nothing.
Or how about people focus on the projects important to them, and you to go the reservations and old folks homes and help them since you care so much. Deal?

To make America better you have to be honest it does have a nefarious effect on many people; most if not all shootings were triggered by what was stipulated and inferred as valid or factual via social media.
HOW TO FIX SOCIAL MEDIA:
1) Ban the "share"/"retweet" button. Make users have to make a new post and copy and paste the URL of another post to share it.
2) No "suggested" posts or at least require an opt-in to algorithmically suggested content. Ads could still be run, but everything that pops up on a feed randomly is *paid for*.
3) Force companies to give users complete control over feed (minus ads)
Give a small hurdle to sharing a post, and cripple the companies' ability to stoke engagement inorganically and use our psychology against us. That would make social media 90% better.

On the other hand, what if society is more productive because it's no longer more expensive to send your kids to daycare than it is to have a job? What if it actually makes the country money and its people happier and healthier? Wouldn't it be incredibly, mind numbingly stoopid to not implement such a thing? Yes, yes it would.

This is silly. Social media sites are not some alternate universe. We are in fact talking to each other. It’s not like talking in person is some completely different existence from talking through any other medium. We are in fact communicating with one another.
Of course schools should prohibit using electronic devices during class. If there are schools still not doing that, without restriction, well then there’s your problem.
If you raise your kids to have ethical standards and to love and respect you, they will actually be on your side and they won’t even go to the store mob meetup. I mean, come on…
Oh and guess what? If you make sure your kids trust you and trust themselves, they will be inclined to create their own amusements and not be so reliant on others’ perception of them.

A label has more utility in reducing problems with social media usage, than not doing anything. What you've advocated can be enacted in presence of a label.
