Right. Put that phone down. Supervise your children.
Can't supervise them 24/7. The app should have legit age verification
parents don't want to parent anymore. they are buying these kids the devices and then saying ''the app should have legit age verification'' why? why can't YOU be responsible for your own child? that is legit your job
@@ericanderson8795 Exactly. There's only so much parental supervision can do against an algorithm
@@GorgieClarissa💯
A LOT of older parents don’t even believe in anxiety or mental health either. So that makes it difficult too.
True
Whoopi Goldberg: "when you tell your kids to put those phones down you have to mean it" 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
💯👏🏽💯 Indeed!!!
Exactly..... Parents seem to be afraid to tell their children No or STOP.
100%...too many 'soft' parents. Why is NO not part of their vocabulary anymore?

Whoopi: “IT WOULD REALLY BE HELPFUL IF CONGRESS COULD GET THEIR ACTS TOGETHER!!” 💯
Vague meaningless statement imo. Been said a million times
#TruthBeTold!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
These maga congresspeople are holding up the country
That’s true on almost every topic!! 💯
Kids don't play outside because many parents would rather give them a screen than watch them(sometimes inside too).
Sadly so well said, and deeply true, as a nineties child, and teen of the early to mid 2000s. I really miss the times where social media along with technology along with screens were not as obsessive/addictive, along with assessable.😐😑😐
They don’t want to hear the screeching and wailing so out comes the ipad and cookies. Get them addicted to two things at once so they’re easily subdued.
It's like 120f outside. No thank you. But we can create connections inside and activities
👍
I am a kid of the nineties. My parents had TV. Lets no pretend that wasn't a thing. Also I did play outside a lot and guess what my parents never watched me! Do you think that would fly today? Especially when there was an uptake of abductions in the nineties. They had to ban an episode of barney who said strangers were your friends. We would want to watch our kids as they play outside from just surviors guilt. Also parents have very little support. Its very expensive most are working full time and have to manage the house. Please have empathy before making sweeping statements. Parents are very worried about screen time. I think ultimately 1. sometimes there is nothing else 2. All of the world now is connected to a phone or tech. no way to avoid it. again please show some empathy. It goes a lot way in solving problems. But who am I kidding, the internet is not about solving problems.
Yeah but what about all the older people who are vulnerable to these lies???
Same reason
There's no fool like an old fool.
We don’t deserve a warning. Lol.
Thats a shame that adults cant deal with it either
Very true
There should be no phones in schools. It is a constant struggle for teachers to manage this issue.
Cutting social media time is a good first step.
And for those who don't believe it's a borderline addiction just pull the plug on the Internet.
Parents must do their jobs. It starts there.
Worst thing I did when I was raising my children was giving them a phone when they were 12 years old. Please don’t do it! Social media is a terrible thing for the human race.
I’m just obsessed with CZcams! But when I’m at work or out I’m never on my phone. I see people my age and younger that need to be posting about everything. I have one friend that we can’t even go out with her not posting everything and it’s annoying.
@javiruiz, I am glad that you have the maturity and self esteem to not have to “show off “every time you go somewhere. It is nice to enjoy yourself and be present in the moment. I am proud of you.

I honestly feel like just deleting my social media
Already have it’s freedom
I have stopped all social media except CZcams which I pay to have No Ads.
I deleted my drug of choice facebook three weeks ago and I’m finally going back to normal. Reading and having hobbies again. I like living my real life not my online life.
I did for my instagram - not my fbook yet, but will do. But I know instagram for me, has more recipes and contacts for vendors. CZcams is the killer for me. Constant knowledge and stimulation and dopamine. It's horrendous for me and im closer to 40
@@janiekcarney5482 yes is that worth it I do hate the commercials but I get a lot of wonderful information speakers on certain stuff like Carolyn Myss
Social media also preys on the elderly. I can’t tell you the amount of times my siblings and I have had to yell at our mom to GET OFF OF FACEBOOK. She believes everything she reads on there, no matter how much we tell her that it’s nothing but lies. I think Millennials are one of the most important generation in the history of the world. We are the ones who grew up through the most rapid advance in technology that the world has ever known. We are the last to know what it was like before the Internet and what it is like after. And far too little of us are in leadership positions because everyone is trying to retain their power. It’s time for a change and I believe my generation is wise and will do the right thing.
Social media has definitely been detrimental to my daughter 's mental health. Not only has she experienced bullying, but she experienced toxicity at a level that no child should ever have to worry about.
We had her phone regulated as best we could, but as others have said, kids will still find a way around those restrictions.
As parents we can only do so much, and I think that there should be restrictions in place that unless you are of a certain age, you shouldn't be allowed to make a social media account.
I agree. 16 and older.
Unfortunately because the only ID you can get @ 16 is a driver’s license in most states that a parent has to approve of, that is unrealistic
I'm sorry that your daughter has experienced that, but there are also positive aspects to social media and you have no right to tell other people's children what to do just because social media can be misused. Children have 1st Amendment rights, too. This can be and MUST be the parent's job. It's not Congress's job to be our daddy.
I'm sorry your daughter has to live with this. And it's tough on You, the parent, when you realize you can't protect your child. Been there, but a different issue.
@@scarletleaf1181 that sentiment goes both ways. Until you've walked a day in my shoes with a child who has tried to commit suicide from the toxicity that can be found on social media, then we can have a discussion about "positive aspects".
I quit all social media except CZcams and it's been amazing.
We should delete social media. I deleted all mine, and I’ve never been happier.
you are still using it dummy
What's messed up is CZcams is social media. I use it like TV but still am in an algorithm
Some of us have people who live in different countries. Moderation is key.
@@flamelily8486cell phones exist for this very reason
CZcams is a social media platform. Watching engaging videos can trigger the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, reinforcing the behavior and making it harder to stop.
Social media has been out since 04.... It's taken them 20 years to figure out social media is a problem?? 😑
How long did it take before tobacco was a problem? Sugar? Trans fats?
How many people die at dangerous intersections before a traffic light goes up?
Seems too little too late.
Wasn't still smart phones and having it in our pockets 24/7 it became an issue
Yeah.....I'm not falling for it. All of this is propaganda pushed by the federal government, who is desperate to get their filthy hands into social media so that they can control the flow of information. The whole "think of the children" thing is just an emotional manipulation tactic that doesn't have any serious studies to back it up.
I miss seeing kids outside playing after school wirh their friends and neighbors.
Me: I should reduce my screen time.
Also me: After I watch today’s View videos on CZcams.
When I was a teenager social media was hanging out on a street corner watching the girls go by and having fun with your friends or sitting on a porch talking about life and watching it go by, or congregating in the park or any place we can blast our car stereos and dance and have a good time. The Payphone and phone booth was the last resort to have a psychological connection to anyone. My how times have changed
You can display all the warning labels all you want ... who is responsible to enforce those warnings ??? --- PARENTS are the ones who need to enforce the warnings and prevent and/or limit their children from allowing them to get on social media or buying them cellphones. C'mon the PARENTS are responsible to protect their children at all times.
True, but unfortunately we have parents that are just as bad as the children.
The government has to take over everything, it seems. We don’t deserve freedoms.
If there's one thing I learned from working in retail it's that nobody ever reads the posted signs/warnings until AFTER they get affected
Amen.
Parents are not always around. I'm tired of hearing people put blame on and attack parents. They can only be around their kids for so long, especially if they are a single parent.
The '60s '70s '80s and '90s were the best years NO SOCIAL MEDIA
But meanwhile no warnings for guns 🤦🏽♀️
Are you really that stupid?
?
Well done Joy pointing out the editing of Biden video. Completely alters meaning.
Stop blaming social media for how your kids are turning out it’s your responsibility to teach them right and wrong and theirs on how they apply what you teach them and mental health is each person themselves responsibility I suffered from mental health since I was fourteen I gone to therapist after therapist whom made it worse finally I learned to see my triggers to take care of my own mental health
Hate to break it to Sunny but her kids aren’t children
One is 18 and the other like 22!
@@javiruiz8365 yeah so not children
It's adults that are addicted to social media. On BOTH SIDES
Utah is already on it!
I disagree. Parents are not trying to help. Parents do not parent anymore. Whether it is hovering, helicoptering, or bulldozing, we have created a generation of people who have no ability to deal with challenges and who collapse the minute they are confronted with one. This generation of parenting will take decades to undo. My parents never waited for laws from Congress to raise me; they did it themselves.
As long as companies are allowed to lobby, no law will be changed or enforced.
The truth is out there...use it. The biggest problem is that media companies are allowed to outright lie with no repercussions 😡
My Parents knew what I was up!! I knew what my Sons were up to. This generation has been raised by social media not Parents. I had no phone. I had no personal car. I interacted with other students at School.
I think the biggest problem is that back in the day parents would shut the TV off and tell the kids to go outside. But today no one's telling kids to turn off their phones because the parents are just as addicted
Whoopi Goldberg: "when you tell your kids to put those phones down you have to mean it"
Sunny Hostin: "because you own the phones"
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That’s exactly right. Parents are scared of their children 😂😂
Adults as well as children! It was wonderful to see people out and about enjoying the beaches and other outdoors activities over Father’s Day weekend!
But that isn’t an everything day because adults work and kids have school then it’s come home to do homework & eat dinner, get ready for bed. The cycle starts over the next day.
Europe legislated and has done research. US needs to utilize previously done before.
We need to do this with adults too. And adults have MAJOR mental health issues when unrestrained after 18. Kids mirror adults. Limit everyone to 2 hrs of any screen time. TV, instagram, youtube, fbook netflix etc
The average adult absolutely cannot do that and the world doesn’t see it as a problem yet.
Wow gonna enforce it, and what is the punishment for said crime? 👀
Also, that would literally be impractical for people who literally depend on social media for work, etc.
In 2009 i woarked at a middle school where a group of girls threatened to curb stomp a classmate when she came to school the next day..administration at the school said it wasn't their responsibility bc it was on MSN, not 'said at school'...it was on their phone sent after school hours. I was the lone wolf, screaming for the school to take action.
15 years later, here we are.
15 years later, here we are.
I"m not the kind of person who has to have my phone engaged all the time. It sits in a charging stand all day and night, and I barely touch it. That's my generation I guess, I just dong find it that interesting. I remember a time when too much TV watching was considered dangerous for young minds.
Get those kids off social media and have them read books! If more people read, we’d have a more intelligent and peaceful world!
Well books are being banned, soooo
To comply with federal regulation, social media companies already ban kids under 13 from signing up to their platforms but children have been shown to easily get around the bans, both with and without their parents’ consent.
13 is the worst age to be emotionally. So easily influenced and so much change and hormones. Definitely not a good age to sign up for these sites and they know it.
It should be raised to 16
@@SupportTheArts-yo8oxBut how will that be enforced if kids are getting around that at 13?
Except that he often DOES wander off and he IS senile. Saying that people are not seeing what they are actually seeing is disrespectful to the voters and can backfire on the Election Day.
Let's not overlook the pandemic of narcissism that social media has fostered and normalized in today's society. Why do you need 2,700 selfies in the same room, talking about "I'm the main character?" Go sit down a read a book.
Also, especially since the pandemic, technology in general has really been part of our day to day lives
Parents must learn how to say NO and limit their children’s screen time, as most of the panel said. The Footage Joy Showed Of President Biden seeming to ‘wandering off’ at the G7 but showing him congratulating someone was the first time I actually saw what actually happened - WOW
I’m sorry Joy! I know you are a Biden lover, but that dude was wandering around! Someone needed to tap his back and guide him. A younger person or just someone like Joy would not need that. I feel bad for him and he needs to be vacationing like my dad in his 60s
Apparently you didn’t listen to what actually happened. He was talking to someone. Pay attention plz!!
iPads are the new parents. They should be called iParent.
Warning labels won’t do anything. Get rid of the algorithm and Instagram story feature

Great idea! At least warn people.
Great discussion from the Surgeon General. This Doctor makes a fantastic case about kids and social media. Well done sir, everyone needs to hear your story. My full support to you and your efforts
Its not just kids. We go to lunch and my 80 year old mother and older sisters are on their phones. My younger nephew and I just look at them and chat to each other. Talk to each other. Parents can set the example by putting their phones down first.
Alyssa showed up in her pajamas, and I am here for it.
Warnings are all well and good, but when they try to FORCE the issue--ridiculously high taxes on cigarettes and seatbelt laws, for example--they can F**K RIGHT OFF. Give us the information, and LET US USE IT AS WE SEE FIT. That would truly be responsible freedom, as opposed to the nanny state in which we currently live.
Didn’t we have the same concern about television in the 90s?
No.
Not like is now with social media cause I'm a kid of the 80's and 90's and our parents actually took TV away as a punishment and there were plenty of shows that came on after 5 pm that would put up a parental guidance warning up for certain programming and TV is a one way relationship that we had were these kids can talk to whom ever they want and see whatever they want 24/7
If only they knew then what was coming.
Connection with humans > screen time. If you need to check social media for items, make it an hour at night only.
And what role do parents play in monitoring?
According to the left: none. The government is our mommy and daddy.
But I actually do think government pays some role, too.
For once, I agree with Whoopi. "When you tell your kids to put their phones down, YOU HAVE TO MEAN IT."
At what point do parents take accountability?
The left believes that the government is our mommy and daddy
Whoopi eye rolling every time Sunny mentions her kids or how she runs her house
Not giving your child a smartphone won't work...all their friends have one. Republicans won't even regulate guns so why phones? I've seen parents take their small children into movie theaters to watch rated R movies...Parents need to parent, not our government
Went from being raised by Tv to being raised by any screen with an internet connection. We’ll just be in pods watching screens soon
Sunny, your teenage kids, including the adult kid, get less than 3hours on devices a day? Please…
I agree
What about gender affirming care?
Why are you changing the subject?
@@tanyaldutton I thought we were talking about saving our children from the ultimate demise, I'm sorry.
I watch the View everyday - great panel, great guests. I am a baby boomer so cell phones were not part of my childhood and yet... I find myself spending to much time on social media on my phone. I am conciously making choices to reduce my time doing that. Modeling is important too... the panel is well respected. It would be great if the panelists didn't bring their smartphones to the table during the show - they are also promoting (even if it is sublimanilly) that we need to have our smartphones beside us at all times. I expect there is another way to reach them in case of emergency as they all have earbuds connected to producers. thanks, L
Treating a symptom is not treating the problem. The issue isn’t social media the issue is not raising your children to be critical thinkers and reason out situations. Remove social media and something else will fill the void to affect their mental health. Fix the root cause.
We need laws to hold newspapers from lying. News outlets too.
Parents use the phone and games as their babysitter for hours!😢

I get what they’re saying and totally agree but I don’t think anything is really going to change. This is a country that was whining about having to wear masks. They’re not going to want to be told what to do with their phones or social media.

I think parents need to be parents again. As a parent if you are constantly on your phone, why would you expect your children to act differently? I wholeheartedly agree with Whoopi on this, parents are not taking phones away when they should. It’s almost like they are afraid to discipline their kids. I’m just thankful that my child is grown now.
I’m not even a Trump supporter! It’s just so weird how they protect and defend Biden. It’s absolutely silly! Even they really loved and cared about that man they would want him to be on a vacation around the world relaxing. They say they are not biased, but come on. My son and daughter-in-law allow 30 minutes a day for their children. Otherwise, they engage them in outdoor activities such as sports, playground meetings, and playdates. Great parents!!!!
Did they just use the way the gov't regulated and "warned" about cigarettes as a model for further regulations? Wow!
If the creators of social media platforms won’t allow their own children use the technology they create, that’s a key to social media needing guard rails.

This is a MUST! Maybe we can give parents an incentive by winning a bonus for every proven week of fasting from social media??? The REASON it's so important is not only depression, but PHYSICAL unfitness...in my case, I am in the music biz...doing productions...I even have to force myself to get away from the screen...get up and excercize. I didn't before and was inside too long...didn't get enough vitamin D and end up with weak bones....PEOPLE BETTA WAKE UP!!! MB have them watch WALI
How about let it start with the home and PARENTING, and not have the government take control of everything?
The left believes the government is our mommy and daddy
1000% agree!
That would be great if parents would get off of their phones and actually talk to their children.
If your response begins with the words, What about..your not staying focused
Another thing the government should stay out of. It should be the parent's that monitor screen time not the government.
Body image issues started way before social media!!! I would argue that there is some social aspects that kids get now days that we used to spend on the phone but parents also need to set rules.. i just think it’s multifaceted like most things
Thank god Sara fixed her hair
