    Interestingly, I rode the new XSR900 and MT10 SP (new gen) the same day back to back. MT10 SP was first and I noticed it was massively better than the old gen. For reference, I test rode the old gen twice and didn't like it at all. The new gen has much better tech, cool intake noise, comfortable, SP suspension felt good, up/down quickshifter was nice but still felt heavy and cumbersome to me. Hopped on the XSR900 and everything felt tighter and more direct. More playful, less bulky, still very comfortable, stock exhaust has a nice note to it, tech just as good as the MT10, and I liked the look better. Outside of the additional power and possibly a little more comfort for long distance touring, I saw no reason to go for the MT10 over the XSR900.

      XSR isn't under-powered.
      And with that bombshell: money is saved on tires, insurance, fuel, oil, potentially service costs. I bet some aftermarket upgrades are going to cost less, like a header pipe.
      There's about one 1L naked bike that rides the ragged edge of diminished returns for cost, that being the GSX-S1000. Everything else (MT-10, etc) cost a LOT more to get that 5%-of-the-time thrill when the cops aren't looking.

    I have this exact same 22 XSR900, and while I haven't had any issues with the scroll wheel or dash, the very short fork lock is the only thing I don't like about this bike. It is without a doubt my dream bike in every other way, and like you with your MT10, it totally revitalized my love of riding after 10 years. I've had two '07 SV650's, a '20 Vstrom (650), and a '98 DL650, so the move to the XSR was a huge one for me. Can't wait for the after market to spark up, but for the time being MOST of the stuff that fits an MT09 also fit the XSR900. And then there's tons of universal fit stuff out there for the little mods.

      That QShifter makes another Sale! The Twins are Thumpy.. not very rev happy like the triple. Somebody needs to do a test in the quarter mile.. the QS has to be worth half a second? Some transmissions can't be shifted very fast to boot. How does the XSR900 w/QS match a liter bike without?

    • @That1J1
      @That1J1 Před 3 měsíci

      @@markhall3434 quick shifters imho are a matter of convenience more than anything unless you're doing some serious competitive racing. Anything that is not a liter bike is not going to compare to a liter bike, they are made completely differently from ergonomics to engine and throttle design.
      If you're doing track days for fun the XSR is nice to get out on and open up, but that is about it. You can ride it fairly aggressively, but if you're going harder why not get the MT or something designed for racing instead?

    XSR 900 has my vote. The lack of wind protection on a naked bike doesn’t bother me unless I do more than 20 mins on the highway. Which isn’t where I want to ride regardless of wind protection. Multi day trips with my buddies where we spend most of our day between 30-80mph on back roads, I’ve never wished I had wind protection. I ride a Triumph Speed Twin 1200 and I ride it rather spiritedly (Ohlins suspension helps).

No Fins.. 3 cylinders is narrower than 4.. very compact.. just about perfect. My 3 cylinder 2 cycle H2 was wider with the fins. A 4 cylinder was very wide with fins. The Quick Shifter really is Yamaha's crowning achievement here. This is the "App" like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. Absolute perfection. automatic transmissions in performance cars are OBSOLETE now. The new mustang has "Rev Matching", but you STILL use the Clutch! Totally missed the boat.. Never had the MT-10, but as far as MPG on the CP4, I averaged beter MPGs on a ford F-150 than on my R1M. as far as the looks of the XSR900... that blue paint is amazing! I rode one for a bit, and it is a great bike, and it has such an unique sound! and that blue color with the gold is just perfect for it.
    OC I"d choose the XSR any day, though between that and a Street Tripe RS... That is a much harder choice.

    I currently ride a Harley Sport Glide. But I miss the different riding style my Street Triple had. Plus I don’t know if Forward controls are for me. It’s comfortable, but makes my inner thighs hurt. Now!! Harley have come a long way. The upside down forks on my bike make it SO much more “flickable” than other Harleys. That being said. I think I would choose the MT-10 as well. Just the versatility alone would probably sway me. I also do not enjoy a twitchy throttle, but could get used to it I guess. I like the Speed Triple and the BMW 1000 S as well though.

    Get a Tracer9GT, Chase.. ;-) It has CP3, it has that prolonged swing arm, it keeps a bit of that transformers style and it's completely made for travelling.. I have bought one and I'm absolutely happy with it.. It checks all the checboxes I ever wanted a bike to check.. :-)

  • @highplainsdrifter2120

    Ive ridden both of them, and own a MT10.. I wouldn't give it up for anything. XRR and MT09 feel like toys to me not as serious as the MT10. That moto GP sound is second to none... Can't go wrong with either. I've owned almost every liter bike out there and needed something similar to that feel. I don't care about electronics and turn them all off with the exception of the quick shifter.

    OC. Current 22 xsr900 owner. Love the bike. Think the name is too much. Xs9 or Sr9 would've been ideal. Never considered the MT. I was a fan of transformers too, the original animation and toys, not the live action cgi atrocities. I'm also a generation out on understanding the appeal of Pokémon so neither screen really appeals. Would've preferred a square / round offset combo to keep the early 90s aesthetics, show digi menus and a big sweeping needle, plus it would help fill the weird gap between it and the headlight, that is awesome but the lens seems like its a half size too small. If it had two like my 99 speed triple, or if it had a chrome beauty ring around the edge that might help. The black surround does some optical shrinkage illusion i think. I do kind of enjoy the white to green to orange tach sweep though so I'll manage. I don't get the jog wheel hate but youre not the only person to mention it so my hands must just be weird. I was disappointed you didn't mention gas mileage on the SR9 as a positive or negative in comparison to the MT. I seem to burn through tanks fast, but I don't know if its just me. Great videos.

  • @love4boost
    @love4boost Před rokem

    Maybe it’s just me. I don’t mind the screen or the menu selector. I only look down at it to check my speed when I see a cop. Personally I can’t choose the XSR over my MT-09 even though I want the cruise control. If I would’ve found an SP at the time I would’ve preferred that but I’m not disappointed with the base trim at all.

    If you had picked the XSR 900 over the MT-10, I was going to point out that it wasn't fair comparing a 2019 Yamaha MT-10 to a 2022 Yamaha XSR 900 because there have been many improvements on the 2022 MT-10 over the 2019. However, you picked it anyway....have you thought about getting a new MT-10 (maybe even the SP) and moving the parts over from your 2019?
