Terrell Brandon Could’ve Been a STAR If Not For These Reasons! Stunted Growth

  • Today’s feature is one of my favorite point guards of the 90s. I struggled with which direction to go with his story, because on one hand to be a questionable 5’11 and play the way he did on every level is admirable. On the other no matter his stature, he was a beast individually in college playing well enough to leave after just two seasons and become the 11th pick and second point guard taken after Kenny Anderson went second overall in the draft in 1991. Terrell Brandon was nice! and had the talent to be a star in the league much more than his final 2 seasons in Cleveland where he averaged better than 19 and 6, shooting high 30s from 3 and playing in all but 11 games. He was actually traded after an all star year, in a 3 team deal that sent superstar Shawn kemp to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Brandon to Milwaukee, then Minnesota, where he evolved into one of the league’s best assist men, averaging a career high 8.9 assist in 99-00. His career began slowly, crept into an underrated top 5 status and ended abruptly just after 30 years old with doctors telling him he might have to have parts of his knee replaced in order to extend his career. You GOTTA do his teammates Mark Price and Brad Daugherty next. Those late 80's/early 90's Cleveland teams were loaded, just couldn't get past Jordan! Had two Would be Hall of famers that careers were both snuffed out by injuries when both were in the prime of their career (Daugherty made 5 all star teams by 28 but was done at that point). Price was One of the 1st Members of the 50/40/90 club! Would have been a GOAT PG if not for injuries. TB learned so much as his backup his first 3 years, especially that textbook runner! TB is FAR from stunted growth. If I get even one All-Star season from my 11th pick of the draft - let alone two (and should have made wayyyy more than 2!) thats a growth SPURT. This guy was overachiever at every level. Underrapreciated and wasted on mostly bad teams until the end with KG. While Price definitely rubbed off on him, he was also stunted by even being drafted to Cleveland and having to sit the bench behind a still in his prime only 26 year old Mark Price at his PEAK as a player those 1st 3-4 years. Sad he only got to drive the ship on a real contender towards the end of his career. Imagine had he been with KG from 95 on! Definitely one of my favorite Small guards. His midrange was PURE!!

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I think that, in 1999-2000, when the Blazers were on the verge of contending for a title, this three way trade would have helped all three teams: Gary Payton to Portland, Terrell Brandon to Seattle (he would have gotten to play 3 hours from his hometown), and Damon (The Demon) Stoudamire to Minnesota.

Borderline HOFer and multiple All Star if he’d been able to stay healthy.

Come on man... This aint the kinda story i come to this channel for. This dude played in yhe league for over a decade and was an all star.... This is not a stunted growth story. The stories being done on this channel have straied away from "What coulda' been" type stories to doing stories on guys who were top 5 at their position / All Star caliber dudes. Lets get back to the real stuff .... Dude was among the best... This is not a stunted growth situation.

Yeah... you're right. Very good career.....but could have been a Hall of Famer if not for the injuries. I know where you're coming from, though.

@@mdwayne741 and I Just saw he uploaded a new video about Carmelo Anthony... 🙄Seriously, Dudes a Hall of Fame. Top 10 in points scored all time. With this type of Logic, you could do a stunted growth video about Lebron James.... Like why hasn't LeBron passed Jordan, with only 4 rings. He probably gets more views doings videos on guys people know, more casual basketball fans. I love to see videos of guys from the 90's & 2000's who were highschool / college or street all legends who couldn't hack it in the league. Not guys with HOF careers. I guess that's the type of stuff only hardcore bball fans can appreciate.
