Does Where You Develop Matter? What Happened To JD DAVISON! Stunted Growth

- Today’s feature had star written all over him in high school, mainly known for his high flying activities that easily made him one of the top athletes entering college in 2021. During that time JD Davison had done enough at the high school level, and possessed enough elite speed, quickness and leaping ability to a warrant him being considered a one and done prospect. He was the 13th ranked player in his class and #3 overall point guard, headed to Alabama for what became just one season where he averaged 8.5ppg, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assist per game. He played 25mpg and started just 5 games. With those numbers you don’t expect a prospect to be ready to make the life changing jump to the pros, but that’s exactly what Davison did, even though every draft board had him comfortably below the top 30 first round picks. Meaning if he was to choose this path, there would be a lot betted on his game and him developing into a rotational piece for an NBA team. Davison has played a total of 20 NBA games, 35 minutes in total in 2 seasons for the Boston Celtics after falling to the 53rd overall pick in 2022 and signed to a two way contract. Could he have been more ready for immediate impact had he chose a different side of development? What happened? Does Where You Develop Matter? What Happened To JD DAVISON! Stunted Growth

JD is still only 21 years old, so in no way is it over. But should he have developed more before the NBA jump?
Do Nate Miles or William Buford stunted growth
He should have developed more.
Hey Bro, Do a story on NYC most celebrate combo Guard Felipe Lopez or 6'8 Guard Sweet pee Loyd Daniels whose life was more sadder then Chicago Leon Smith. Prayers up for Leon Smith & Sweet pee Daniels. Or story on the late Carlton Hines who was a basketball superstar and drug kingpin at the same time Dead at 24 yrs old ..He's was murder by Sex -money,murder bloods gang.
I don't think it matters that much to be honest, the G is as good a place to develop as college, maybe better. In the end, it's still on the player to skill-build on their own time.
He has definitely done work to be more in control and a better passer. But he's going to struggle to find any NBA minutes if he doesn't get his 3P shot to near league average (it's < 27% right now)
This was one of my favorite players i wished he had transferred to another college to where he could get the numbers up cause the hype of him was like ja morant and he had the skillset just wished he capitalized off it like for another year
JD Davison > Killian Hayes 🤷♀️
Facts
Yea most likely lol
It’s funny really. Hayes had the capability to be a good scorer. Unfortunately for him he couldn’t shoot to save his life but since he’s a decent defender on that level they gave him burn to figure it out. We all know how that ended up. Then you have JD who if given the same opportunity would probably have developed into at least a solid rotational player.
Sharife cooper>Keon Ellis (and yes I watch the kings)
JD davidson > Bronny
He plays for the Celtics right now...He is going to get a ring...
On 2 way contract ineligible to play in the playoffs.
That's not gonna do much for the resume if you don't even play lol
I never understood this thinking. Who wants a ring you didn’t contribute to? Just to say you have it? I wouldn’t want that and it matters 0 to his career. No team is going to sign him because he has a ring he didn’t contribute to. Cool though, but who wants that.
It’s like most lebrons rings. Who wants them when you got them so easily. All but his 2016 ring I don’t respect.
@stuntedgrowth I know myself personally , It wouldn't feel like an accomplishment to me if I wasn't a main contributer lol. I might not even accept the ring. I wouldn't felt like i earned it. 🤷♂️
You honestly think his teammates would vote for him to get a ring?
figuring out this kid was only 6’3 was mind blowing
His hair and athleticism would make you think he’s 6’5-6’6
I thought he was 5'9 😂
He's listed at 6'1
@@elomahfee 6’2.5 in shoes. most originally thought he was 6’5 MINIMUM
@@dredre2235I thought he was much taller as well, but if you Google him as well as go to the official Boston Celtic website he's officially listed at 6'1 and 195 lbs
Shout out to you for doing this video. I was able to teach this young man in middle school and he was always respectful. He is about to win a ring with the Boston Celtics and coming from Lowndes County, AL that is HUGE. Wishing this young man nothing but success 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Definitely should’ve stayed in college another two years. Polished his game. It couldn’t have hurt him. Agents get in the players ear however or people period. Making the league is a goal & accomplishment in itself but lasting should be the main one.
yeah - it's a tough call - he got drafted after all, and did get a g-league contract, which is actually a decent league to build skills. He has done a good job playing in better control, and is a much better passer. If he can fill in the key missing piece - a near-league-average 3-pointer, he'll have a shot.
I hope the NIL encourages players to stay in college and develop longer. Most one and dones don't even be ready which leads to a short career.
NIL deals should keep the players in collage long enough now to develope. Since thier making money in collage it should not be a rush to be a 1 and done.
He could've been overshadowed by older more skilled guards and never been drafted at all. Going early while he had the hype made sense.
Classic tweener, kills in the G where's his explosiveness can make a difference but can't hang in the League because he can't shoot the three. Plus, he got drafted by a team that has great guards. Doubt he gets much more of a chance with the Celtics.
u know ball 🤝💪
I mean Tj Mcconnell can’t shoot the 3
@@DiorInEveryStore That is a fact. If JD had the craft McConnell has he wouldn't need one either. All I can say is I've watched Davison play with the big team, last year in preseason, and he looked totally out of his depth. As a Celtics fan I really wish he would progress, but I'm skeptical at this point.
He was the youngest guy in the draft the year he was picked. He has a lot of developing to do and we’re not in a rush. Jordan Walsh also was the youngest in the draft and we picked up Jaden springer who was the youngest in his draft. These guys are specimens just way too young so let’s develop them in the system and no reason to rush
Jd is measured at 6'0.5 barefoot, but his standing reach is 8'3.5. Avery bradley's standing reach is 8'2.5, so there is some hope jd can at least be a backup sg or 3rd string sg in the nba.
As a Bama fan he definitely needed another year to work on his shooting but we were so deep at the guard positions and Brandon Miller was comin so i get why he kept name in draft
Roll tide
He’s developing great in Boston
If Bronny was as good as him? He wudda been a lottery pick! Facts!
Rent free smh
I forgot about him.
He should have stayed in school just one more year & I think he would've been ok in the league
If you watched game 2 of the finals you’ll notice him sitting in the first few rows of the stands
I wonder what agents tell these prospects and their families that they take a very huge risk and with a smaller reward. All these “one and done” getting exposed in college and the pros
He got drafted. If he stayed in school he could've ended up like jahvon
Do Keifer Skyes or jahii Carson Arizona state
You was quick with this one!!!
I dm yesterday u got right to work 💯
He’s a very humble young man & has great work ethic from what I seen from old interviews at the height of his popularity few years back. I loved his highlights reels too, it’s just coming from such poor area & dominating players at that level in high school. I kinda knew he may rush to join the league too fast not even just for the money but to simply get a jumpstart on his career. May have thought whatever he learned in college play can be done twice as fast in the NBA. Just that reality sets in & many young players realize the NBA is just a totally different animal that your game has to be matured & well equipped for.
Damn he's only 21, good content
He look so much bigger than 6’1 lol
right, that makes his dunking abilities more impressive
JD = Jalen Leque 2.0. Those two should've made it
I was looking for him this college season but I didn't know his name to look him up. When I noticed he wasn't playing I was like, "Damn, he was a senior?" Cuz he was a key piece but not good enough to leave early. Let alone his fresman year. He'll I didn't even know his name
Have you already done a Thon Maker video ?
Damn I forgot about jd me and my dawg used to always watch bra highlights in highschool
Cool that he has a ring now
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Celts. He's a really good player I've watch some of Maine Celtics G league games and he's done well when he's gotten time with Boston in the regular season. I'm hoping he gets a chance with the C's
Champion
Jd is 6’1 😮 i had no idea he was that short
I think he's CRAZY and talented.
Next do Dino Radja!!
Dude went to his stylist in said “ Give me the Lion King “
Reminds me of Josh Selby. Shooting guard skills in a PG size body 🏀 but age 21 it may be too late. There’s a new crop of 18 y/o coming into the league every year. He’s considered “old” in the bball world 🌎
The demar derozan comparison is actually wild .. nothing like Debo
As a Celtics fan, I’ve watched his G League games. While he might not be a true point guard, he has the potential to become a solid bench player. Although he can be a bit sloppy, his exciting style of play allows him to put up impressive numbers. To succeed in the league, he’ll need to improve his defensive skills, leveraging his athleticism and lateral movement
Everybody got em at 6-3 dunking like that looks about right
He cold tho I like his game a lot
Bruh is bout to be an NBA champion
Do one on Buddy Boeheim: Stunt 1: Went as far as he was to going to go! Stunt 2: Needs off the dribble game. Stunt 3: Needs better organization/farm system than Detroit!
When you speak of him being a point guard… he fits better as a point guard due to his facilitating I.Q. He is an exceptional reader on the floor he sees and know where everyone is on the floor his bonus is he can actually score in the paint and be an outside shooter… he’s an all around player, he needs to be on a team that needs his skills. Boston is top heavy… a good fit can be the Knicks poor Jalen needs help and JD can be utilized there… I hope the Celtics do not waste his talents he can be special if he gets that chance
Ring on a way
Surprised he wasn't in dunk contest
Everything matters
Could you do an Aaron Mckie ?
How about a few of these New Jersey players, 2 of which were team mates of mine (Chris Gatling and Luther Wright) or Tate George
Jesus Christ is our Lord and Wonderful Father!
Do Kennedy Chandler next. Same high school level prospect as JD, and now stuck in the G League.
Next Derrick white 🔥🔥😂
He'll better overseas he can make a name it's a lot of superstar 1 n dones right now if you follow overseas basketball
Can you please do lester quinones? Thanks
Man hell nah😂🤦🏽♂️
Can we get a Rudy Fernandez video
JD definitely shoulda stayed another year or 2 in college to polish his game more. I'm from Alabama as well. He dominated high school ball but only cuz he played for a small school. His school was classed like 2A or 3A.
If he stayed another year learned how to shoot he could've been a 1st round pick and secured a bag. Not sure what 2 ways pay now.....but nothing close to a regular minimum contract. It mightve cost him being set up for life regardless if he stuck or not
Sounds like people around him weren't giving good advice & just gassin him up hopin to reap the rewards
All the upcoming top hs players need to watch this like cooper cup (The NBA is going try market him like crazy since he’s a top white American player) anyways where you go from the draft matters sooo much unless you’re generational talent
The biggest balance is learning when it’s time for YOU and not base it off of somebody else. Somebody else may be ready at that time, but it doesn’t mean you are. Plus I believe colleges are a little more patient with development compared to the NBA. Why wait 3-4 years for a second round pick to reach his potential?
He should go to the Wolves. Mike Conley is 37, he can have a chance to develop here
bros the next Avery Bradley
Man...I thought he was on the Celtics then I seen him in the crowd in Boston game 2 at the finals...smh
I love Payton Prichard, but is he really better than JD Davidson?
Might be a lil early for this video bro
He will get an opportunity just let him develop
He might, but it won't be with the Celtics. They extended Pritchard last summer and picked up Springer during the season, both of whom will be ahead of Davison off the bench in any rotation. Unfortunately the road is littered with guys like Davison who never get over the hump.
Put them against poor kids. WHO hoop. To stay out of trouble.. a lot of the big names who come from well off families.. fall short. No heart just media fans
what happened to positionless bball?
The whole idea of positionless basketball is predicated on shooting. If you can't shoot efficiently you're out in the cold.
When you mentioned his stats at Alabama I didn't need to listen anymore.
Westbrook averaged 3 points his freshman year chill……
Hard he's living his dream. NIL was too late.
He’s 1 game away from a NBA Championship Ring 💍 🤷🏾♂️
@7:35 When Jalen Brunson first came in the league no one thought his play style would work. Now he's become the template for what a PG should be.
I wouldn't say that - he's definitely over achieved and people respect him for that , but teams aren't looking for undersized below the rim point guards lol. If that were the case every PG projected in the 2nd round would be filling rosters.
Brunson is just DIFFERENT. It seems like there's some correlation between having NBA fathers as well - they're blessed with those genetics & knowledge, their fathers know exactly how hard it is to break into the league and have connections throughout the league as well to develop the kids growing up.
@@MAXIMUSWE No, this is true. Coach Nick from BBall Breakdown, among other coaches, has said coaches are now teaching their young players to play like Brunson. You won't see the impact for a few years. People said the same thing about Steph Curry. Now almost everyone has to be able to shoot the three.
@buzzerbeater3350 Yes , I'll partially agree with that sentiment, because he plays the right way. I don't think though a far as athleticism, shooting form etc , size they're looking for players like him. It also hasn't made them stop selecting 1 and dones either. It's just the same as TJ McConnell, factually one of the best pure point guards in the league - but just because of what he looks like his size etc , and not being a offensive first kinda guy , teams don't generally draft guys like him. In fact he was undrafted himself, and people STILL say he stinks. Although that's mostly casual fans.
Brunson brought back the CP3 type PG style, guards 6’4 and under need to study CP3, Kyrie, Brunson, and Rondo ! great guards at smaller sizes but can do amazing things and control pace at anytime in the game
I cant lie i thought he would be a stud in the league
I think you should have to average at least 15 ppg to be drafted. This dude did the best dunk contest dunks on high school games. It doesn't always mean he's going to be a great player
rj hampton? stunt number one reclassifying same boat for jalen hood schfino
jd look like that one character from backyardigans 😂
Mane you a foo 😂😂😂
Racists jokes getting old
@@duhhmrln8527 how is that racist? i just he looks like that one character from that show 😂 ur dumb
Needed more point guard skills and shoot better but even without that still is a nba player
He was him in HS
Any one and done players should know going in the 2nd round is worse then going back to school...historically 2nd round players who are successful are either older players that are ready to plug in and or foreign players who are stashed for 1 to 2 years
I've never seen a a young 2nd rounder outside of GG and Nembard recently succeeded
If your one and done and your not a 1st rounder go back to school you can do all the developing in the G League but you'll never see PT in real games
Mac McClung? What's his story?
Yo
JD with a extra year was a lottery lock 🤷🏾♂️
Calm down everybody....1. this kid is only 21 years old, If he gets a ring this year that will be good for him, it will motivate him. Calm down MF!!! Damn all I said is that he will get a ring...Stunted growth you have a great channel but in actually everyone of us has a stunted growth in our lives!!
So, this player had a college career than the James prospect.
I think one of his biggest issues is his ball handling. I think he only gets shots off because of his speed and athleticism. His game looks very predictable and limited. I think if he improved his ball handling skills it would make a world of a difference
I’m sure he had a fool as his advisor
i felt to start off he went to the wrong college .
JD Davison didn't contribute in the games so he doesn't deserve a ring??? What about practicing with the team, making them better! How many young players get drafted and sits the bench while their team become champions...and they don't deserve a ring?? I'm heated!!!!!
Again, not everyone is made for pro idc if you look good in HS and college pro is different 🤷♂️
He has to compete with Pirchard
Celtics just dropped a 4 year $30mill extension on Pritchard last summer, so Davison is for sure not competing with him.
How is this stunted growth he just won a ring at 21/22 he is currently on an nba roster now.
dude had potential to be a poor mans Ja but realistically he was gonna be Dennis Smith J at best
JD davidson > Bronny
In This Day And Age Of The Highschool Internet Sensation And Cardio Dunk Session AAU Basketball. All Of These Kids Need To Stay In School And Develop. The Dunks And Hezi, Hezi, Hezi, Step Back, Step Over, Stare At The Guy After You Make A Play Generation Doesn't Really Know How To Play The Game Of Basketball.
If Everything Was "Iso" Count How Many Crossovers I Did They Would Be Great. They Lack Fundamentals And Floor Generalship. The Draft Is Weaker With Each Passing Year. These Kids Are Too Hollywood And Complacent Which Is Why Overseas Guys Are Overshadowing Them With Less Athleticism And "Swag" 🤷🏿♂️. Truthfully, Gen Z Is Too Watered Down And Not Hungry Enough.
I thought he was 6’5” 🤦🏾♂️😂😂🤷🏾♂️ I see why he didn’t get drafted high. I swear they listed him at 6’5” that’s probably why people thought he was going to be better than what he is now….
Had a better high school and college career than Bronnie James . Crazy how not having a hall of fame father can change your experience
His experience Went like that because he got drafted to the wrong team bad nun to do with his dad lol
Anuthing to mention Bronny, yall are obsessed. What is Bronny experience? Dude did not even get drafted yet smh
Buddy gotta let go of the neck strap amongst other things
And yet Bronny thinks he should be a lottery pick
2:11 totally disagree if they’ll take you. GO PRO! He wasn’t in college during NIL so he took the money. WE all thought Caleb Love was an NBA player especially after that Natty & he’s getting no love. Next year they’re gonna call him Grandpa. NBA is obsessed with potential and youth. If you average 25 in college as a Junior they’ll just compare you someone you age like Jalen Williams and then down play you.
6’1 ?? He look 6’4
“ dose where you develop matters ? “
Ok , that reads horribly!!
“ where you develop!”
“ does it matter? “
That’s reads better !!
At least he’ll get a ring and get to witness what it takes to win
JD ==> AI 2.0… ?
6'3 with hair🤣
Dude should’ve stayed in college
@7:35 JD should pattern his game after Derrick Rose or Ja Morant. An athletic PG will always have a place in this league.
