  • In todays video we answer the age-old question, can a uk falconer pass an American exam. UK falconer attempts American exam, can I pass an American Falconry exam. Here in England we don’t have falconry exams, seriously anyone can buy a bird of prey and call them a falconer, so I have never taken a Falconer exam. So what happens when me, a British falconer tries American exam?
Get ready for the epic smackdown of UK VS USA Falconry!!!!
Not really its just me answering general falconry questions, the exam is HUGE, so I decided for this video I would just take the general part of the American falconry exam. Starting off easy!
If you would like to see more of ‘real falconer attempts falconry exam’ or ‘UK falconer does American exam’ then leave a comment and like the video and I may make another video attempting some of the more specific parts of the exam!

Wow. I am an old goat ranching lady from western US, and I just scored 90% on that! I have to give the credit to T.H. White's The Goshawk, and a lifetime of avian observation. Let's see how bad I wipe out on parts 2, 3, and 4. I love your channel and your life. If I had met hawks before I met my husband I would be an entirely different person today.

I am preparing for the test in the US. That question on full summed and hard penned annoys me. I live in TN and we are supposed to use the CA study guide. I have seen three different study guides for that test and the answers are not consistent. But Great Job! It gave me some review time as well.

@@MercerFalconry Each of the US states are legally required by our federal governement to have an examination, but each state drafts their own examn. So the questions vary from one state to another. Some of the states' exams loose sight of the simple fact that the exam is intended to evaluate if someone is ready to BEGIN to learn falconry.

Eeey, another falconer here from the States (and ornithology student). I just wanted to drop in and add on to sexual dimorphism! Sexual dimorphism refers to differences in size or shape between sexes (technically, but people also use it to describe color) and to be hardassed about it, sexual dichromatism refers to color. As a result, most raptors are reverse sexually dimorphic (females larger than males) but don't exhibit sexual dichromatism (males and females are the same color). However, some raptors are sexually dichromic--and this includes Merlins, American Kestrels, and Eurasian Kestrels, among others! People are generally pretty loosey-goosey with the terminology and honestly it's pretty freakin nitpicky but I thought I may as well drop it in, in case someone could learn an extra somethin~

@@MercerFalconry I go back and forth between a Harris Hawk and a Red Tail. I think the RT is a better fit given all the squirrels around here. Even if I don't actively hunt them, they are hard to avoid. But I really like the intelligence and social nature of the Harris.

I am not a falconer, but was researching the process to become one in the US, California, and we also need a hunting license which is a 12 hour course, then the beginning falconry test, then also a home/equipment inspection by a game warden to make sure your mew and equipment is alright, and then you need a sponsor to become an apprentice(may take years to find one), then after a few years of training you may get a license to be a general/journeyman falconer if your sponsor thinks you are ready. Then after that you can do more training and tests to become a master falconer eventually. It's a process to say the least in the US.

I wouldn’t say there’s such a thing as a beginner bird, there is a lot that goes into choosing the right bird for you. It depends on what experience you have with what species, what flying styles your comfortable with, what you are planning to do with the bird, if your hunting you need to make sure you have the right bird for whatever quarry you have access to. Have you got much experience with birds of prey?
