It Begins… Even Dollar Stores Close Over Theft

- Dollar tree will now close 1000 stores nationwide, but nobody's talking about how even if Dollar Tree's stores remain open, they'll be unrecognizable to their customers because dollar stores / discount stores are fighting a losing battle in the war against shoplifting.

"Lock up our products rather than our criminals" Should New York's motto
Let’s go Mayor Adams best mayor ever he should be the next President of the United States 🇺🇸
Is that the brand the Mayor was talking about?
The New York , National anthem.. Believe me tho , I'm in the UK ..and our criminals our treated with much more respect then law abiding individuals like myself ...The whole world is just turning on each other. ..all because of our own governments
"Vote for our own demise"
Same issues here in Atlanta. A Family Dollar store on Ralph D Abernathy closed at the end of March 2024. Reasons? Rampant shoplifting, having to pay their employees more, and the ever present threat of riots.
The sickening part is that the local governments see this rampant shoplifting epidemic and still do nothing about it.
They thrive on chaos.
They would charge any store owner defending their property. This isn't incompetence, it's malice
They're allowing it to go on
Create the problem, provide the solution, it's how they roll
It is an election year 😒
It's on purpose, they need everyone and anyone who can vote to vote for them.
As a truck driver I can absolutely verify the brand issue. I have been to many food plants that were making food labeled for high end brands as well as more generic cheaper brands. The product and can was the same the only difference was the label being affixed to the can.
Same thing with most everything. From food to glasses to tech and clothes.
I was taught this at school many years ago in uk.
It used to be common where I live for the label to include the place it was made.
So just reading the labels of two products next to one another would tell you they were made in the same place.
“When a government does not effectively combat crime, it is not because it does not have the capacity to do so, but because the accomplices of the criminals are those in government.”
Or.. it's because a few years ago terrorists used riots to scare politicians to remove the ability to fight crime instead of reforming it.
As a Black man, I've always felt that culture is the problem, not racism.
Exactly. Lack of morals, glorification of criminals in the media ( think sopranos ). Basic religion taught right and wrong, not talking about the crazy evangelicals. This chaos, all eventually leads to the solution they want, a totalitarian police state.
💯. But no one talks about it.. bc the culture that’s being promoted makes money 💴
Very true, I find this behavior embarrassing.
It is a culture problem. A lot of us grew up poor and and we behaved normally. They're demonizing the poor to hide the real issue.
A raccoon at it finest bih how we catching strays from our own kind.
They ain't stealing "for their family" they're going to sell it over Facebook or wherever.
That's one big lie they keep saying. They're just trying to feed their family. You see people trying to hock their stolen goods.
Sometimes they'll set their little stalls up right in front of the store they stole from!

We all know that it's not "people" who are commiting these thefts.

I live in Canada where the Liquor stores are controlled by the Province and where their staff has been told 'to stand down and let the thieves take what they wish'. As to items getting smaller, same rule is noticeably being applied to even brand names distributed by regular suppliers. i.e.: Large grocery chains etc.
Man, it’s so fascinating that your channel went from NYC real estate to NYC news.
I was in a Dollar Tree the other day when two homeless guy and lady came in grabbed a laundry basket and four backpacks full of stuff probably close to 700 to a 1000$. I and one of the employee tried to stop the guy from taking it all when A lady in the line was saying "Their not doing anything wrong, they just need eat." I told her what happens when the store cant afford to stay open and this store will close if theft stays this high. Well not three days later, that store is now closed permanently.
and what did that excuse lady reply to you when you told her the store wd close if this continues. I DOUBT you will see her in church any time soon...
You should have encouraged that dimwit woman to open her purse and give the shoplifter her wallet if she was so concerned about them eating.
You should have asked the woman to pay for the goods they were stealing.
@@Lauren-vd4qe She didn't have one, just a confused look. She tried to change the subject. "Saying that people could get hurt if people try and stop them." She knew that it was going to happen but would rather keep her head in the sand.
Wow that lady is a dumba$$. Poor people think businesses can just absorb the loss but it doesn't work like that. When businesses shut down, middle class and poor people lose their jobs.
When unacceptable behavior goes unpunished it becomes acceptable. New York and California are perfect examples of this.
yup, who woulda thunk that this would be the result ?? crazy
It really makes me envy a time where US society cared more about doing what was right. Not stealing from your neighbor. Because essentially that's what happens when you shoplift.
The whole country
I'm from VA and it is also rampant here... It's happening everywhere and who are these thieves? you know who they are!
Who are they?
Out here in the country we have had an explosion of new stores opening. Why? Because we may not have a high population but we have disposable income and we don't rob them. They can actually turn a profit here. so excited to never have to go into a city again...
This feels like the sort of plot I'd use to gentrify areas I had realestate investments in.
I was at a Walgreens when this regular thief walked in. The manager knew him and just told him to get out. They did not call the cops because he is a regular thief...How crazy is that.
If they have hard evidence of frequent theft they can be banned from the store. Then cops can arrest after that for them just showing up.
Now when caught with a whole lot and if the cops get there in time, they can again arrest or get a ticket

Who’s the real thief.
“The prices paid at the register do not match the price tags, according to a class action lawsuit working through the courts.”
“Dominant discount retail chain Dollar General, which operates about 19,000 stores in the U.S., is being sued for an alleged “pricing scam.” In the class action lawsuit, customers allege that Dollar General frequently tags merchandise on store floors at a lower cost than what it rings up at the register.
The case was brought on behalf of the class by Dann Law, a firm spearheaded by former Ohio attorney general Marc Dann. “These guys are stealing a little bit from millions of people every day,” Dann told the Prospect. “There’s no question that they’re aware there’s a problem. And [that] they’ve been aware for a period of time.”
Dollar General’s practices, which essentially amount to false advertising, have financially harmed the “thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of consumers,” the lawsuit alleges. The suit, which was filed in New York, seeks an order declaring Dollar General in conflict with state law, as well as damages for the class.”

Thomas Sowell said it well in an interview. Our first line of defense against crime is not the police, it's our morals.
The rich don’t need to steal but they still do
That defensive line has fully collapsed. We need to accept that reality and accept the next step, expanding our prison capacity.

It's not a company's job to help people, it's their business to make money while providing a service. It's up to the actual human being to use their freaking brain to figure out size and price etc. If you need a quick something without running into a big store with long lines that is a service. It's called freedom. It's America. No person has ignorance as an excuse and they are totally free to shop when and where they choose.
I did 7 years as a cop in NYC and recently resigned. We had a woman we arrested 6 times in a 5 day period. The basis of a successful society is that if you work hard for something people cant just take it away. In NYC though they can take everything you work for, the politicians have let the people they are supposed to serve down.
Imagine doing the same stupid thing over and over and expecting different results... for 7 YEARS!! Some people...
But that's what the people of NY voted for.
Successful societies don't steal from their stores, though.
Your fellow citizens voted for it.
Police are the best people in society. The pressure is enormous and to be an office of the law and compassionate is a balancing act. ❤
Well said “NewYork would rather lock up shelves than criminals”.
WOW...Now that is a rather profound statement...and so true!
China profits a lot from these thefts too. Bye bye Mom and pop shops. I'm gonna miss y'all.
I saw this coming just like I saw that 🐭 run across the aisle at the beginning of the video. :06 😂
Can't say I didn't see that coming. I frequent this particular location and have been seeing a lot of people getting busted for shoplifting lately. It was hella inconvenient this evening when I went in to do my shopping(I usually order ahead and either have my things delivered or do a curbside pick up) and had to wait for a cashier this time. An employee there made it clear that the only two self checkout lanes still left were for Spark drivers and Walmart Plus members. Gonna have to switch up my shopping routine now!
Majority of people today committing this type of theft are not missing a meal or having trouble clothing themselves. These are people who were never willing to do a hard day’s work.
I'm sure all that stolen loot gets heavy towards the end of the day
And that’s why they will always vote Democrat, because that’s the Party that facilitates them to continue to go through life without ever putting in an “honest days work”.

So sad because...
1) They're already selling things at discount prices.
2) Leaves the community without affordable stores.
This is what these crimes do. They make their own neighborhoods inhabitable.
They think they're getting over on these businesses but their community winds up suffering in the end.

That's what the people of New York voted for. When you vote to not pay people to enforce the law the law doesn't get enforced. When you vote for DAs that don't press charges against criminals for the crimes they commit criminals don't go to jail for the crimes they commit. When you vote Democrat you get New York City or Chicago or La or any other blue City where crime is running rampant because they don't prosecute criminals.

This has been my heart and my work for the past 14 years and I have never had the level of, shall we say “concern”, regarding my personal safety, as I feel currently. Nurses do not want to go to these underserved areas. There’s more going on than just finances that are being affected. There is a whole problem of finding nurses to go to the underserve and help and since there’s not enough nurses to go around, nurses can pick and choose. The secondary effects of this migrant crisis are far reaching. There’s less supplies there’s less money, there’s less nurses to help the poor and underserved communities, and who suffers? Vulnerable citizens in these underserved communities. 😞 This allowing an unlimited, amount of migrants to come into New York City is just dumb because it’s not showing kindness. It’s actually cruel to vulnerable people in these underserve communities. It’s making their life harder and making things much worse for them. I can attest to that and what will next year bring. 🥺 Patient Patience subjected to this will have it harder. Their quality of life will be impacted and they’re mortality will also be impacted. This is sickening! As someone who must shop at Dollar General because I’m now disabled and on a fixed income…I STILL see things at DG I want and cannot afford. That being said, I wouldn’t steal them. Those who steal hike the prices for those who do not!
Then you are dumb and broke. Dollar stores have higher price per amount than anywhere else. They just package it in smaller containers and charge slightly less. Look it up if you don't understand. It's a grift
what is your disability? maybe you're faking it
But then, prices are still rising without regard for thieves. Fruits in any supermarket should be cents because of streamlined farming, not bucks.
The other point to note is that the thief could be in cahoots with the manager (read: corruption) for the burglar to be a 'fall guy' making the store leave (read: manufacturing pretense). Walgreens stores around San-Francisco is one such example of that.
But DG prices are often higher than buying the same item elsewhere on a price/unit basis.
Since you don't mind watching documentaries, you should probably watch the one on Dollar General. These small "budget"stores actually cost more per oz / lb for the things they sell than normal stores in normal quantities.

No one wants to work the crappy retail job, customers are disrespectful, rude, expect you the minimum wage worker to dote on their every whim whether or not it's part of the job( seriously had people demand I make a phone call for them, unplug our ice freezer to charge their phone, and expect a refund on a jug of milk from a different brand then we carried, just to name a few.) Then we add useless politicians on BOTH side of the aisle, lenient sentencing, and you've a recipe for business collapse.
This is so true I picked up on this years ago. my shopping habit at a dollar store is to only go for items that are needed for just one time use. I try to buy in bulk at Walmart, Costco Sam’s. The prices are pretty much the same as Dollar General.
These businesses are ripping us off !
i work at a dollar general and stealing is so bad everything that can be locked up will be locked up
Stuff is hidden in the back and if someone wants it, it’s handed directly to the register people
also amazing how the same people can come back over and over without being punished by the law
Not at all amazing when the same politicians get re-elected time after time. Why should those politicians do anything different?
Question why do you work there do you want to get shot?
@@flyingspirit3549 well said, a typical politico would sell their own mother to be reelected, kinda like that proverbial dope addict...

Your thoughts on this?
“Dollar General Overcharges ‘Hundreds of Thousands’ of Customers, Lawsuit Alleges
The prices paid at the register do not match the price tags, according to a class action lawsuit working through the courts.”
When they no longer have stores to steal from, where do you thinik they'll go next? The honest, hardworking, taxpaying citizens are on the verge of a nightmare. These thieves aren't going to stop just because the stores are leaving, they'll just look for other targets.
This country is going down the hills!!
where i live the local dollar tree has been 'temporarily' closed for over a year. there are still products on the shelves but the store is never open. i suspect it will go away when their lease ends.
closing these stores will deprive the 'community' of places to steal from
😂
sheeeeeeeit!
When I lived in San Francisco - exact same story. Police would refuse to take reports to keep their stats looking good. "Hey! We want tourists! So no paper to show that our crime is just as bad as Detroit."
In 2 years my car had its windows smashed 14 times. When you report it the COPS crack jokes.
Handle it yourselves. The politicians don't give a damn, THEY are the total problem!!!
Republican states and city's do not have this problem do you wonder why? this woke agenda less police = less crime is not working but they cant admit they made mistakes !
@thomashauguel6811 and what will be your suggestion when it is happening all over? Where will ppl move to where they have a job and won’t have to deal with crime? Also some ppl have kids and can’t easily pick up and move. Sometimes moving can cost thousands. We don’t all get free hand outs like the immigrants
Oh my god! 14 times. The government should change but it won’t since our country is bi-polar and this is not one of those swing states. I think things could change if every state is a swing state
Makes sense...criminals crack windows...cops crack jokes...a TOTAL crackup!...🤕
I remember a Time where you would get clowned and ridiculed for shopping at Woolworth or 99 Cents Store in your hood.
Fast-forward to 2024-
Cacusian Man " Theyre Closing All the Dollar Discount Stores!!!" 😂
This is crazy
Only easy solution I can think of is to block off part of store where you can go in to steel reinforce window ask for product and have then slid to customers after paying.
Kind of like they do in bad neighborhoods where you can't even go into the store.
Just 1 time of being locked up on Rikers Island will scare a shoplifter straight. The jail is literally NO JOKE! Start arresting people and stop this nonsense.
It costs so much, that money has to go to new comers and Ukraine
Probably no Vacancy lol
Every jail is a joke the second time, herein lies the problem. Your country jails kids in boot camps..send minors to jail for nonsense like weed..and thus they lose their fear of jail entirely.
@@KennyG233 No one is sending direct money to Ukraine. It is the war equipment that is being sent and that keeps production going in the US.
How is there no vacancy? No one gets locked up.
love the mouse passing by at 0:05
The only thing i thought of reading this title was all the Walgreens closing over theft.... except they already on paper had plans to close them a year before that ever began 🤫
It feels like every city is methodically declining: new york, la, san Francisco, vancouver, london, paris. All of our governments seem to want Western cities to collapse. I dont know a single person who doesnt think their city isnt in freefall
I think what has happened the last 20 years is exactly that. European middleclass is just too high maintainance.
It's engineered. It's about the 90% (majority of society) and the 10% (them - earning over $500,000 a year)...
It's when the city reaches a limit on certain demographics crime just spirals out of control. 😂😂
They want us to be at each other's throats.
Yeah, but San Francisco it was rich people paying poor under privilege kids to steal. It was actually a blonde woman. Near the Tahoe area, paying poor under privileged kids to steal from stores - google it.
I saw on another CZcams channel (A. Diaspora) a couple weeks ago where black Americans were all congratulating a group of black customers who sided with the people raiding a Walmart and they all 'overcame' the security to sack the store. There were lots of hearts and black bicep icons.
Are you kidding? Is anyone thinking this through.... because this sort of entitlement isn't going to keep the system running for long lol.
I saw the same think about Chicago, weeks later they were complaining the stores had closed
@@idaslpdhr Yeah; "Where we gonna' steal our stuff from now ?" How pathetic.
And then they 'protest' because the store close and they cannot get goods without traveling miles away.

This is what SOCIALISM DOES
Lmao! New York isn’t socialist. This is capitalism on display…
@@MikeD_5 This is not socialism . This is the down side of capitalism . Parasitism . Social parasitism is culture based and not necessarily racially motivated.
They need to close the doors to the shops to people coming in. They can order online and either pick up their stuff at a window or delivery service. What else can they do? These thieves are destroying the businesses that are needed for those communities. It makes no sense.
If the deterrent against theft is a slap on the wrist, then of course criminals are going to do their thing. NYC is soft on crime and business owners are paying the price. That’s why so many stores are shuttering and taking their stores elsewhere.
Right, but Trump stealing millions from taxpayers is a 'victimless crime'
What slap on the rest? They don't get a slap on the wrist. They get released without bail. They spend maybe 6 hours with the police. Thanks to the way the people in this video voted New York prisons have a revolving door.
Why don't you send some flowers to the CEO of Dollar tree if you feel so bad about his loss? He makes 130 million per year, so you'll probably need to have his assistant deliver it to him on his yacht
Perfect opertunity to flee ny
You can't be tough on shoplifting/theft in an ultra-capitalist country unless the economy is literally booming for everyone. its why they don't prosecute for shoplifting in Brazil either.
Escape From New York😂😂
Let’s go Mayor Adams best mayor ever he should be the next President of the United States 🇺🇸
no, we dont want them here
I escaped from L.A .
Rural Midwest is great.
I was telling family over Easter about Cash's vids an the decline of NY economy, infrastructure, and influx of "refugees". In the movie Escape From New York got brought up
Im trying right now 😂
Family dollar, 99cents only and Walmart neighborhood market are gone from my area because of thieves many of them homeless. Sandiego has this problem too.
:( No civilzation for you
They can change to order only. They can also setup their check out like Costco and Sam’s where you have check the recipe and items purchased before leaving the store. Lastly, implement Texas laws on shoplifting and that will deter a lot of people.
You don’t was to arrested for shoplifting in Texas, very bad.
Did you see the mouse crossing the aisle. 5 seconds into the video. 😂😂😂
Yep. Was surprised. Glad it was not a rat.
😂I did, I stopped and replayed it😂
Rat, NYC is covered in rats. It was a baby😂😂
@@Coffee240 I rather think it was a rat, too. Mice can be very tiny.
I thought it was a rat...we are in Florida and our chickens get them quite often (they earn bonus points for that as I fear rats more than any other animal on earth) I will pick up any snake in the coops...and place it around the gardens to keep rodents away...snakes are our friends...rats not so much. And after seeing that, I will never ever step into a family dollar again.
Small towns: Put a barrier across the door(a table on the inside of the door) ask what they want, retrieve, take payment & hand to them. No shop lifting. 🤷🏻♀️
back to the bad old days where things were done on small scale and expensive then. that's how things were before modern stores like piggly wiggly changed it. the result of the self serve model is that it makes it easier to compare prices, quicker, and a lot cheaper. Additionally with that service model the ones stop shops where you can get everything are hard to run because of the amount of time to get to individual items and staffing issues to serve several customers at once.
Then people will just pull guns but it’ll make it harder to shoplift yes
@@tonym9880 just do walmarts buy online and come pick it up just have that and stop having it were you go in get want you want and then go pay for it
Ooh, that’s what they do in shops back in Russia!
Russia is not a country, it's a state of mind. (That's a saying we have in Poland)
These shops are in Poland too because they're open for longer duration and they are in remote areas, or around big building blocks where you have 1 market that's suitable, but you don't want to wait in queue do you go there to pay a bit more, but faster.
Everyone saw this coming.
You can stop shop lifting tomorrow if you want to… but the residents of nyc have to actually want to stop the shoplifting. Issues like this are always interesting, because when elections roll around you get to see what people actually think about them; we’ll know soon enough if New Yorkers want law and order or if the love their criminals and want businesses shut down.
Always remember, there are multiple sides to every story… and debating them won’t stop a single store from closing.
Doesn’t matter since thieves can vote, and likely took, say, a fraction of the voting bloc permanently.
And these companies have the guts to say that shrinkflation isn't a thing. How dare they.
