In this video I demonstrate the Sonarworks system and show you how it works to improve the mixing experience with you studio speakers and headphones. I also test the Sonarworks system with a set of cheap computer speakers to see if it can improve the sound from cheap computer speakers by Logitech.

Once again you prove why this is one of my favorite channels! I work at Guitar Center... I used to tell EVERYONE about Sonarworks. The average customer comes in and asks for “flat” speakers or headphones but don’t understand that most consumer products are NOT flat (or their listening environment is affecting how flat it could be). But people never listened to me, so I stopped wasting my breath. People do listen to you, and this video is what people NEED to see. Thank you Sanjay!
Thanks so much, Chris. So cool you work at Guitar Center. Is it fun having all that gear to try out?
great
What do you mean the inexpensive studio monitors are flat response. Yamaha hs5 and jbl lsr305
The Sonarworks ride is crazy; you put it on and it instantly sounds weird on your mix, then you just get a feel for it and eventually adapt to the sound. Once you think the mix is done, you turn it off and now it sounds weird again but an appropriate weird, then there's that feeling of relief, knowing your mix will sound good how you intended it to. Thank you for giving light to Reference or just the idea of "flattening the sound during the process;" this will help out the beginners making their way to professional sound!
This is so hilarious! I literally use those cheap speakers as my mix monitors and never realised how bad the response was!
It may be different in your studio...maybe not as bad as mine.
@@SanjayC No they sound awful on busy tracks but I can't afford anything more at the moment so, for now, I'm just mixing on headphones and just composing on the monitors.
I was just considering changing monitors, but now with this system there's so much I can do with my current ones. It sounds fantastic!
Bro that song is 🔥🔥 when the beat kicks in and that harmony layer comes in - all the feels! ❤️
Thanks Rev Saybs! :-D Still a work-in-progress, I need a part B :-)
Finally! I was waiting for your review on this... Amazing as always
Thanks Sanjay, for the detailed comparison and different scope of this product, specially the part where you explained the things it can do and it can't. Saw many reviews but yours was really unique ☺️❤️
Keep the great content coming ❤️🙏🏻
this is a great review, i wanted to check how sonar would work and this cleared all my doubts, thank you Sanjay!
This channel deserves millions of subscribers! Keep on inspiring starting music producers.
Thank you for shading more light. I now have an idea on what to buy
Nice work, as usual. Keep up the great work Sanjay!
This would really help with my little room.thanks again for this review!!!!
I love your channel. Thank you for the quality and content of your videos. Inspiring 🙏🏽
Thanks a lot for this amazing review! I really like your explanation and thanks for the current news about it being reduced in price right now.
Wanted to watch your review of it, because I trust in your reviews a lot. Thank you Sanjay
Seems so cool, I wondered how well this worked!
Can’t wait to try this out in my studio!
This is the best Sonarworks system demo on CZcams. Well done, Sanjay C. Looking forward to the giveaway!
I've found myself watching a lot of your videos over the past few months, really appreciate all your time and enthusiasm - thank you :)
I appreciate that, Christopher. Thanks for the support
Sonarworks (both headphone and speaker editions) have been such a helpful tool for me the last couple years being in environments that aren't exactly ideal for mixing. Made my mixing process faster overall. Definitely worth getting for anybody thinking about trying it.
Thanks for sharing! Good to hear that you had a positive experience with it too
Awesome information, didn’t know such type of products exist. Will definitely have a look into this in the near future. Thanks Sanjay!
Glad it was helpful!
Never thought about using Sonarworks on cheap speakers, but that makes a lot of sense!
I'd love to check Sonarworks on my HD650, they are great, but aren't completely flat
This will be very helpful for producers who can't afford a lot and still get great mix results. This is a game changer!
Excellent video! What a great comparison video :)
we´re exited to test it out..so cool, that there 3 licenses by one product
I recently became interested in this world of mixing, and I've heard of the good results you get working with sonarworks reference.
Thank you for the great comparison! ❤️
I been watching u for a year now... ty for your content
Sounds like an amazing music tool, definitely could make the difference for what I am at right now with my music production setup
Really looking forward to testing sonarworks on my headphones!
you deserve way more subscribers. you make some of the best and most helpful high quality music related content. keep up the amazing work man :)
Thank you so much, Kaare!
@@SanjayC you just made my week
Informative as always. Thanks.
Very nice Sanjay! I use Beyer Dynamic headphones like you do and didn’t realize how bright they are on their own until I used Sonarworks with them. It freaked me out but my mixes translate better now. I don’t always prefer Sonarworks over listening to my Focal Shape 65’s but they did wonders for my M-Audio monitors.
Thanks for sharing. I think Sonarworks really helps budget monitors much more than high-end ones. And also helps correct room problems.
@@SanjayC agreed. One other thing worth mentioning is that for someone who moves around to different studios it can make a difference, akin to bringing your own set of monitors but obviously you would have to take time to analyze each studio room. That being said I know guys who do this and it helps to maintain consistency.
This seems very helpful to a home studio set up. Seriously considering this now
One of the best plugin for mixing i love it
Once again really helpful. It makes me feel like I don’t have to spend as much to have a good mixing setup. Thanks
honestly, I was really surprised at what it did for those cheap speakers. Made them sound SOOOO much better
@@SanjayC a really helpful video would be comparing and reviewing different vintage synths/starter synths. Would be really helpful for making a big commitment to a synth if you’ve reviewed them. Thanks
@@Johnohara7385 In the meantime, check out the Arturia Microfreak (and the recently updated Vocoder edition firmware or limited edition hardware) as well as the Arturia Minibrute synths. Also check out Novation Bass Station II with the updated firmware containing AFX Modem (Aphex Twin created patches). There’s also a recently released AFX Station limited edition.
This is truly life changing. Excited for the giveaway!!!
It would be interesting to compare this with the new Slate VSX system! Nice video as usual Sanjay !
I tried this once and I absolutely loved it. It was the trial mode tho. I would love to purchase the license soon. I’d need to save some cash first.
Great video as always!!
Woahh, sonarworks is awesome! Great job explaining how it works, it seems extremely beneficial for bedroom producers
excellent demo. I'm sold!
Thanks! Glad you found it useful!
Man, I love this channel ❤
Dope! Never knew something like this existed!
thank you, i needed this video
Sonarworks seems great, specially for bedroom studios and for those who can only afford to mix with headphones. I'm just amazed how it can adjust the frequency response. Although I have a little doubt about you're method. Because in the end, it still depends on the listeners. Very informative, great video!
Fantastic test and a great video.
Sound very interesting!! love your vids man! like always best energy on youtube thanks sanjay!
So nice of you
Once again I loved the content, learned something I didn't know and left with a tool added to my wish list 🙈😅haha Thank you again brother!
Finally someone does a sonarworks review video showing mixes with and without sonarworks. Thankyou!! I suggested this is the only way to demo sonarworks on a video by a marvellously well known youtuber and he flamed me for daring to criticise him. bravo mate great video well done!
It's honestly crazy how far this software can push speakers. I want!
I was just thinking of getting that speaker! This is cool Sanjay
Yeah, pretty cool, right?
🔥🔥🔥 I love your videos and your giveaways
This is great! I think that is good for everyone because we all can improve our mix
TBH I love how Sanjay goes in depth on the products he preveiving! I'm a big fan Mr. Sanjay!!!
Looks promising as I was expecting 👍
You and me both!
Thats awesome sonarworks is pretty good for beginners. I love your videos you are so calm and straight forward to point. Stay blessed and happy always both of you ❤ love from Himachal Pradesh, India ❤❤❤❤
Pretty sick, thank you!
Had it for about a year and this just reinforced all the reasons why i purchased it to begin with. (Also reminded me i need to calibrate again since i moved my speakers lol
YES! Gotta keep doing it
man u are growing so fast!!
200K Already!
I know. Truly blessed.
@@SanjayC you totally deserve it too, keep it going man
Love this! Would be insane to get a hold of sonarworks!
Love your channel!
Thanks so much
This track slaps 🔥 great video
Thanks! :-)
Wow the flatness it caused on the $60 monitors is wild! I didnt know a plugin could alter speakers like that so well.
Great video as always.😊🤗🤗🤗
Verry nice video and wonderful voice to listen to again.
I have the Sonarworks and it’s great...cheers
My first time using it and I'm really happy
Thanks for good information
You're very welcome!
Super interesting - thank you.
Wow an amazing software...Especially with the headphones option for those us that have to stay silent while producing :)
that before & after sonarworks comparison difference though... this thing is amazing!!
Looks great, would be so useful to fully trust your headphones
Music + Science ! Ya love to see it 🎛🎧 🤓 Great video 👍🏼 will be trying out RME ARCUSB to help with quickly switching monitoring sources to keep mixing it up, & try to keep it flat throughout. This software seems awesome
Woah that looks so cool. The RME system looks awesome
looks good! i wanna play with this!
I have those Logitech speakers! I'll eventually get some proper studio monitors, but Sonarworks Reference 4 would help a lot even with my Beyerdynamic dt-770
Well done mate!
hey Sanjay, I bought the Sonarworks headphone edition now My beyerdynamics dt770 sounds fantastic now
Sonarworks sounds like a really helpful tool!
Really love your production quality! I bet SonarWorks will work best on your Barefoot monitors simply because they are in the corners of your studio where bAss will be boosted. After some time with a real accurate bAss response you will stop boosting the bAss, that is just because you're familiar with compensating for the room acoustics.
Ohhhhhhhhh Sonaaaaaaaaworks I can't wait for the result. Is it Christmas or I'm just excited? hahahah
Great video Sanjay
This is really beneficial for bedroom producers with untreated rooms.
Absolutely!
@@SanjayC Wait a sec... That track at 1:40 was mixed using expensive Adams? How could that reverb left so dirty?
Actually this is not true. If you have a completely untrated room sonarworks will introduce extreme boosts and cuts which sound unnatural. Sonarworks works much better with rooms that have some acoustic treatment.
@@hannebudio267 I know, I was referring to the headphone one because it's not reasonable to use monitors to mix in untreated rooms.
That software is honestly so cool.
This is nice to know that there are options, even if you got a bad or not necessarily bad but "colored" studio monitors you can change that.
Really want to win those :P
For solving this you can also mix in mono because stereo separation can sometimes fool you, if you mix in mono your mix will sound the same across all your speakers!
Good tip!
@@SanjayC yeah sir worked for me every time!
all you gotta do is turn your second speaker off and then listen to the whole mix and make adjustments and you will get the results!
Hey! Thanks for the video! Does it take a lot of CPU? Honestly.
This method seems simple and intuitive but hard to actually implement. Shot out to this amazing software! (and hardware)
I'm sure this will change a lot for studio setups, and let customers spend less for their studio monitors 😄
This make me remember back in the days when Bose speakers first came out. Bose then was the odd shaped boxes with I think nine small speakers in those boxes. The whole setup was speakers, stands for them, and a Bose box where everything plugged in and out of. All of Bose advertising was about using multiple small speakers and the reflected sound since they were designed to be put a foot or so away from your wall, the reflected sound would spread the stereo image. Bose hyped the reflected sound over and over. Well later people started digging into the Bose speaker and discovered they were using basically the same speaker as out of a Cadillac car stereo system, a at the time a $4 speaker.
People were wondering what is making the Bose system sound so good. Bose advertising constantly talked about reflected sound and multiple speaker when it was that mystery Bose box that was the secret ingredient to their sound. Tearing the box down revealed it was a equalizer boosting and cutting the signal to make those inexpensive speakers sound good, which is basically what your Sonarworks is doing. Tweaking the speaker to make them flat. Bose had analyzed the speakers they used used the mystery box to compensate to make them flat.
There is units like this for live sound. I worked for a large church and we had a similar type system I believe by JBL that had a microphone we put at our mixing location. The mic sound was sent to a rack unit that in real-time adjusted the signal being sent to the power amps EQ'ing the sound. Large rooms and concert halls the sound is changing all the time with the number of people in the room so have this system kept the room sounding the same all through the night.
didnt knew such things existed, sounds really good tho
Thank you Sanjay for all your Videos and content realy informational. I‘m think Buying this is Not bad.
My pleasure
It is quiet costly but it's worth it.
This will take your sounds to another level regardless of your room acoustic.
very good presentation
Sonarworks sounds pretty good! Would love to have it cus i don't have any treatment for mixing
Watching this for the 4th time coz I like watching his videos then anyother CZcamsr, before I go for a new project.
Great vid! Interesting
Thank you!
I LOVE that song. Is the full song up anywhere?
Also I’ve never seen this addressed anywhere though I’ve looked it up. My car speakers even when I set everything to like baseline default settings still make everything sound the same. Whether I mixed it or Dr. Dre mixed it, it seems some car speakers normalize sounds? I’ve even looked in the cars manual and it said all it does is normalize bass to prevent speaker damage over time but it seems they’re doing more than just reducing bass. Is this a thing? Or have I reached a new level of ear fatigue?
Great Video as usual.
Great review! I already have the ARC 3 system, but I'm super intrigued with SonarWorks since it helps with headphones too. Is this worth getting even if I already have ARC 3? As always, thanks for continuing to push out such awesome and informative content!
You're very welcome. Yes, I think its totally worth it just for the headphones feature. Its really helpful for all the headphones I tested with them.
@@SanjayC Thanks for replying! Last question. Would you happen to know if the MEMS mic that came included with ARC 3 would work in calibrating SonarWorks?
@@ChrisAbad the mic that comes with Sonarworks is the only one that works with it, so no it won’t work. I have Arc 3 as well... IMO Sonarworks sounds a bit more accurate.
@@WriteJus I was going to ask this exact question ... disappointed but glad someone else asked and it was answered! Thanks!
@@WriteJus Good to know! Appreciate the reply!
Hi , iv got sonarworks ,I have a question , I have a SSL6 mixing desk which will be in my mixing chain , when I’m setting up my speakers to sonarworks to calibrate should I plug my mic in to the mixing desk then from the desks to the soundcard. Or should I plug the mic straight into the sound card or interface ,thanks
Sanjay, I love your music and being a singer, writer, composer and arranger myself, we may have to collaborate! Your sound is so similar to that particular "airy, easy listening" sound I heard when I was recording in Atlantic Records in LA. The settings on their final mixes had this sound and vibe! Great job my friend and I'll be in touch! :) - Charles III
Thanks so much! So cool you recorded at Atlantic!
@@SanjayC Yes! I'm praying this covid-19 get on outta here! I have to get back into the studio. You're really good and I'll be in touch brother! Keep up the outstanding job!
A few things, first of all. In general you still have to add a sonarworks plug-in to your output as it is separate from your PC in most cases. Also, I don't believe you can make bad speaker good. I believe sonarworks assumes you are using monitors, which are made to be flat. Consumer speakers are not. This will make the adjustments extreme and keep in mind that every EQ move creates a phase shift which could create more issues. So for the best results, first get your room to the most optimal conditions, then get the best possible speakers in the best placement and then use sonarworks. It's much better a last in the chain solution.
I'm curious to hear the results of mixing with the cheap speakers and sonarworks compared to the actual monitors.
So, when is the winner announcement of your competition. I'm so eager!
Later this week. The music is still coming in!! :-)
@@SanjayC I hope I win the giveaway.
