    • @williamsinger4124
      @williamsinger4124 Před 7 lety +22

      True, & thats just it, the older trucks (dont matter the brand, i love em all) you can go in with a bit less fear bc its paid for, and if you do happen to bump something, or rub against something, there will be less damage, and itll be cheaper to fix. I simply prefer the less is more style when it comes to vehicles. Thank you for a legit, grown up response btw

    • @williamsinger4124
      @williamsinger4124 Před 7 lety +15

      Exactly. Pay 50k, in 6 months it aint worth half that. Mind you, im not against technology in general, i just think theres too much nonsense in these vehicles today. Hell, i think that old chev could benefit greatly from a simple bolt on Holley (or equivalent) efi system. Having installed one on an old 3rd gen f body with the 305, it was a totally different animal. Throttle response, mileage, cold starting, it all improved. hell, it even felt a bit more powerful too lol.

    Bottom line, older trucks were designed from the get go to work and go off road. New trucks are designed to pass emmisions, meet safety standards, ride comfortable on the highway, handle well on the highways, and a few of them have some off road tech thrown in as well. Unlike older trucks that off road tech is competing with tons of other factors. That's why you see old trucks doing things with open diffs that new trucks are needing lockers for.

      Clorox Bleach True. They were comparing a $60k truck with all the electronic bells and whistles to a truck that could be bought for around $5k with nothing special in it. I'd prefer old green with just the idea that it has much more potential IMO to do much more without warranties getting in the way with costs compared to the Raptor. You turn traction control off then the raptor would have went right up the hill. Keeping traction control on was detrimental when going up the snow incline because right when it detects wheelspin it's going to limit power and not allow the wheels to spin essentially making the truck come to a stop. Right when the wheels started to spin he was stopped in his tracks.. Lmao If they turn traction control off that Raptor with 400-plus horsepower would have an annihilated that little bit of a snow incline!

      Free Thinker think I remember another video where the raptor got stuck because of its width. Probably the same here. Roman didn't want to gun it through that tight spot. Raptor barely fits and it still has payments on it. Chevy is a lil narrower so there was some wiggle room to gun it threw. Maybe that was it? Or maybe something else, idk? Definitely a good old truck, thing was climbing all over that hill without much difficulty.

These new computer controlled 4x4's always stop each tire depending on what tire is slipping and lose momentum when you really just need the slow turning wheels to keep going. It was fair like it was because when you have a $30K+ vehicle you are less likely to do drive it like you don't mind if it slides into a tree or ditch.

    My dad had a 1962 Bel Air Chevy with a 283 that was a bit modified. Not a racer but just a little more grunt. It had a welded rear end that allowed both wheels to drive. No peg legging. Anyhow....were out on a shooting trip one day. Were driving through riverbeds and light to medium brush. Were on these old military trails in Missouri. So there we are. Old car full of guns, old trail roads and creek beds. We round a bend and were looking for this place thats popular to shoot at. There is a guy out there, in the boonies, waving us down. Hes stuck just a bit away and says he needs a lift to a tow truck. Keep in mind, this is in the 90's. Cell phones werent a thing yet. My dad tells him were good and to show him where hes stuck. We go out to a river bed. There it is. Buried up to the mid tire in mud and brown water. A Ford Ranger that needed rescuing. We hooked a bit of chain up to a thick braid of rope that the dude had in his truck. Pulled him right out. I think technology has a way of making things more prone to failure in difficult times. The Ranger then, the Raptor in this video. Ive rescued a few cars with my old Tahoe. Its funny that a person pokes fun at yer older vehicle and then you smirk knowing the amount of newer piles you saved with said "antique". Nice vid. I like that old Chevy.

    I'd take the Chevy any day. I've had a couple of them. The Chevy wins on all fronts, and it's shortcomings are easily addressed. First, the Chevy has 2 doors, like a proper truck should have. I have no use for a 4 door taxi cab when it comes to trucks. Second, the Chevy has a solid front axle and leaf springs, far tougher than the independent suspension crap on the Ford. Third, the Chevy has a simple low tech carbureted engine, easy to work on, and can be easily modified to get all the power you want, while still keeping it simple. There are a zillion aftermarket steering, suspension, and drivetrain parts available for the Chevy, and it can be worked on by the average enthusiast. And lastly, it just plain looks way better. And I am not brand loyal. I've had both older Chevy's and Fords. An old carbureted Ford 2 door standard cab with the Twin-I-Beam front suspension is also simple and tough. If you want a zillion doors, get a limo. Oh, and technology SUCKS, especially electronic technology.

      @pokeytrucker5296 Před 7 lety +1

      Pat
      I always get a laugh out of the people who make the "tiny penis compensation" comments when they try to talk down to people who like big trucks, or just trucks in general. It really tells you more about the insecurity of the person making the penis comment than it does about the truck person said comment is directed at.
      Seriously, you don't know this person, you don't even know if this person has a truck. And if he does have a truck, you do not even know how he uses it, what type of duties he needs it for, nor is it any of your business. People have their preferences, especially when it comes to cars and trucks, and despite your desire to deflect your own insecurities onto them through petty comments, those preferences rarely, if ever, have anything to do with compensating for one's lack of adequate genetalia.

    • @pokeytrucker5296

      Oh the irony...

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 Před 7 lety +3

      Odd, you seem far more insecure than the average owner of a real truck, and obviously you DO care what other people think or else you wouldn't be here trying to convince us that you're Mr, Know It All with his even less practical truck because it can't do truck duties as well and because - and this is the ironic part - it will have already buckled in two from the unibody frame rusting out before it gets to the age of the Chevy in the video, if used in snow.
      What you really mean is that YOU, not other people, have no real use for a pickup and are just a poser or else you would pick one more qualified for truck duty.
      Also let me give you a hint about towing. You don't buy a truck capable of 5000lbs to tow 5000lbs. That is only the MAX rating, not the rating you want to have if you like a cool running transmission, if you like your rear end to stay planted during windy highway travel, and you'd like your rear suspension to not start sagging prematurely. Obviously you don't have a clue what makes a practical truck. Hint: Trying to be more like a flimsy car IS NOT IT.
      A pickup truck is a fine daily driver. If you have some mental problem that prevents you using it equally well compared to any other vehicle, that is your handicap, not the handicap of someone who wasn't tricked into buying a flimsy econo box with a bed in back.

    • @pokeytrucker5296
      @pokeytrucker5296 Před 7 lety

      Pat
      And the irony and hypocrisy continue...
      Again, as has been the case since you're initial comment, you are making assumptions and generalizations without knowing anything about the individual.
      First off, I don't own a pickup truck. I own a Chevy HHR and a Mazda Miata. I don't need a truck, hence, I do not own one.
      95% eh? Citation needed.
      You can't just go around throwing numbers like that around without factual data to back it up.
      Here's some facts that I know. I live in Indiana, lots of farms around here, and guess what, most of the people I know that own trucks, and there's a lot around here, actually use them for heavy duty work, whether it be farm work, construction, or for hauling boats or trailers.
      Yes, there are people that just buy trucks and use them as daily drivers, but the percentage that don't use them for heavy work or hauling is a lot lower than you think. Even if they do, what business is it of yours?
      Here's something I have learned from personal experience. My cousin has 2009 Ridgeline. It's nice, sure, but he is constantly having to borrow his brother's Silverado to do stuff his Ridgeline cannot do. Not only that, but his brother's Silverado gets better gas mileage.
      You also go on to ironically tell me to stop caring about what other people think, yet you seem to be overly concerned with how truck owners use their vehicles. If being overzealous and judgemental while also being an insecure mangina who uses terms like "triggered" is your idea of a real man, then you can have the title.
      You are right, people should do and buy what they like without caring what others think, but you contradict that by being judgmental of those who do just that, if what THEY want isn't what you think they should have. Do you see the error in your logic?
      Also, something doesn't become a fact just because you state it as such. Oh, and I'm not "triggered", I'm actually quite amused by your lack of common sense.

      +Stephen English I don't know anything about the Raptor, or Chevy but this video didn't prove anything about old being better than new.
      The only thing where old is a clearly better, is simplicity and therefore easy maintenance, that people can do by himselves. But on every other thing, it depends of the vehicle and model in comparison, is the new version better or worse on some narrow field. Then fields where new ones are clearly better, are things like usability, safety, ergonomy, etc.
      For example off road performance wise, can't make any rule based on age. The vehicles vary so much. Choose the right vehicle, and no matter is it 2016 or 1952, it is going to be great off road.

    I learned a leason, that a small hill can be drawn out as 14min video. And that suspense music makes a difference.

      Those new trucks also have the light weigh aluminum beds. Bad for rear wheel traction versus the heavier steel of the old truck.

      Doesn't matter. All else being equal a lighter vehicle will get up a snowy hill better and having the weight in front on a 4WD or AWD improves your snow traction. If we were instead talking only about RWD trucks then sure, more weight in back would help them.

      if only one could use a truck for loading wood or hauling feed...damnit why can't we put something in that empty box to help with traction! although I agree, the old trucks do hold their own offroad. problem is fuel mileage, ride comfort, amenities, reliability and safety

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 Před 7 lety

      Putting weight in the back helps far more with 2WD, not 4WD where that extra weight can make things worse since you're not only pulling more weight against gravity up a hill, but also raising center of gravity with a load, and that it may shift at the worst moment in uneven off-road situations.

      The older trucks are more reliable _when properly maintained._ The problem is that everybody is too fucking lazy to maintain them.

    I took that old 305ci out of my Chevy and dropped in a 97Vortec 350ci 5.7 with Edelbrock Performer 650carb till I installed the MultiPort EFI which was awesome far as fuel economy and power and all around gains but that Edelbrock carb never failed to cold start once it was beast plus I installed 4"of lift ran 35-12.50-15 swamper TSL Radials and a ARB air locker front and rear with 4:10Gears with the 350Turbo Transmission it was solid as hell I miss that old truck to this day
