Actually goldfish can be trained and are smart enough to know to push a ball into the net intentionally. They don't understand the concept of different teams working to get it into different nets, but they can totally know to push it into a net.

My betta came from my mother’s elementary school (my mom is a principal). I visited her school two or three months into quarantine and there I saw a betta in a swamp water colored circular bowl. The fish belonged to a teacher and she forgot to come get him. My brother and I were mortified so we took him home and now he lives in a 10 gallon tank. The entire car ride I had the water spill on me and had to walk into my apartment smelling like a public bathroom but it was worth it for my fish Pablo Picasso 💕💕🥰. The fish had fungi and looked dull in color but now he’s a brilliant red color. My mom is still mad I “stole” the fish but whatever, we told the lady her fish died and we moved on with our lives.
I mean the lady forgot about her fish entirely and left it to rot in swamp water. She couldn’t have been that attached and if you didn’t take it home he would’ve died anyways.

Fishyfishyfishy500 AKA BS my king betta George lived with neo shrimp for 8 months without a single problem and then in a matter of a week he decided it was time to eat all of them. I was able to save 6 from the tank he ate Atleast 40 others.

@@Mr.Plant1994 Wow, my betta, (who seems to be a king betta, always wondered why they were humongous) seems to somehow coexist with everything, they're in a decently sized (not too deep) 45G tank with:
- about 9 male guppies who are super bright
- 1 seemingly neotenous male molly (who was a straggler from the previous inhabitants from 5 years ago)
- 3 rosy barbs (1 died due to aging probably)
- 6 zebra danios (3 are Glofish)
- random pond critters (shrimp, ostracods, and etc.)
and somehow hasn't killed of any of them (except for snacking on a surprisingly sustainable shrimp and ostracod diet) even though they're either as shiny as a jar of leftover glitter or as colorful as a neon sign. (The barb wasn't murdered by the betta, it seemed to be really old and slow and untouched when it died)

Some kids can be good fish keepers too. I would consider myself a good fish keeper. I still shouldn't have an Arowana though. Not because I'm not a good enough fish keeper, but because I can't afford a 250 gallon tank.

That's really weird to think about, I had an under gravel filter for my 20 long but I don't have enough money left to buy one for my new 55 gallon
Under gravel filters are actually really good for planted tanks tho, allows use of an inert substrate while drawing nutrients down towards plant roots
i use one in my shrimp tank. low bioload and lots of plants with gravel. problem is that the roots get pretty tangled in the mesh so moving the plants can be a setback or risky. the glass bottom lets you see the growth of the roots. my valis forest was fun to observe before it outgrew the tank and melted. i need a dwarf species next time.
After trying every other filtration and much research I am switching over to undergravel filters for all but my goldfish tanks. The flow draws the nutirients down thru plant roots, i dont have to worry about pockets of air or debris accumulating, and i can still easily remove the mulm that collects below the grate using a gravel vaccum. Water is super clear and plants thriving in the tank I already changed to UGF. I will still have a sponge filter in my community tank for added filtration and because shrimp like to filter feed.
But ya, that whole UGF hate bandwagon trend seems to be ending. Turns out theres no reason for the hate.

That "aquaponics" project is how I got into fishkeeping. My little brother brought one home with a comet in it and I felt obligated to get him a real place to live. Set him up in a 20 gallon and rehomed him to a friend who has a pond once he was too large for the tank.
Never mind the fake plants, that tank still had the trapped air bubbles around the rim from it just being set up that day. That tank ain't cycled homies.
So a few mouths back I convised my grandfather to bring me to the brand new fish store in town. He used to have a 55 and a 30 set up for years until he got busy with kids. I later took the 30 but he still had the 55. He kept fish for about 20 years threw the 70s and 80s when under gravel filters where top notch. You should have seen me trying to convince him to throw away his old under gravel filter. He even had an old canister filter that was driven by an magnet some how. Getting him back into the hobby has been the best experice ever in my fish tank carrier. We go to the fish store like twice a week now and are both VIP members. One of these days I'll send in pictures of or tanks for FTR.

I was in turtle care groups with him and his set up and care is amazing 😍 he takes amazing pictures of Nemo the turt! Nemo is basically famous in the turtle groups 🤣
I totally get the worry with the fishies - but Davids tank has always looked so amazing and clean - from a turtle care perspective if Nemo eats some of the fish they are safe feeders and great enrichment often given as live feeders!
I’ve kept musk turtles with fish for a while now, they’re (for the most part) non aggressive and will only eat dead/dying fish. As long as the fish are healthy they tend to leave them alone, in fact one of the main reasons I keep fish with my turtle is to help indicate to him that there’s food coming. I’ve used danios as turtle dither fish and to train the turtle to come eat from my hand.
Not to mention Stinkpot or any musk turtle species isn't a very good swimmer, they are more bottom crawler so any small and fast fist should do ok. They only downside of having a turtle in a tank is they can destroy your live plant.
Rio Cahyadi Even then they do at lot less damage than some of the others that are willing to eat veggies. I keep mine with plants and he doesn’t bother them too badly.

On 10:50 I did a similar assignment for AP Environmental Science. My teacher had us create a bio bottle with land terrain on top and plants growing and aquatic at the bottom with proper gravel with a small aquatic plant that doesn't grow much planted and a Betta fish. However, I did not used a soda bottle but a 1 gallon water jug which has more space and I sealed it but gave the fish a lot of water room and space so the top did not take more than half of the bottom but only like a quarter. We did this to study the carbon and phosphorus cycle. Though, thing is that, if our fish die, we were to leave it in the bottle for it to decompose as part of the phosphorus and carbon cycle. But fortunately, my fish did not die and I bought a new tank to put it in. So it's in a much better home. Please don't attack me about it but, it's whatever since it's the internet.
I have undergravel filters on every tank I own. While you guys are planting root tabs and having to fertilize all the time and occasionally start over because your substrate is depleted, my filter slowly brings all the fish waste and nutrients in the water straight to the plant roots. Yes, I also run power filters, but UGFs are indispensable in my experience.
Oh, if you're wondering how to use sand with them, put a layer of 'weed barrier' plastic sheeting from the hardware or lawncare store, cut it to fit, right on top of the filter plates then put your sand in. It has tons of pin sized holes to allow water to flow but they're too small for aquarium sand to get through.
The dude who trained his fish to play soccer was featured on a video on South China Morning Post. He seemed to really love keeping goldfish, and apparently it was after he kept them for a long time that he thought to train them. It also seemed like he had other tanks to keep the goldfish in when they weren’t practicing soccer, but that could’ve just been for other goldfish and these ones stay in the soccer tank.

I proudly have an undergravel filter on my 10gal. I also have a HOB too. Both combined keep flow nicely circulating the tank so our Betta, tetras, Cory’s and snails have constant, regulated flow.

I got a free 20 gallon long tank with under gravel filter, and a "few" fish. When I picked it up, the "few" were a huge angel, a huge platy and a 14" pleco! I rehomed them all and am cycling the tank now for some nanos.

Undergravel filters are still being sold in petstores.....I'm pretty sure I saw one in either a Petco or PetSmart. Aunt Rona has me going stir crazy and they are the only place I can get stuff for my tank

I still use an undergravel filter & I love it. Keeps my aquarium clean & it's simple. I also use a hang in the back filter from time to time when I feel like it's needed.

One of the nicest setups ive seen was two bettas and a goldfish in a 1L bowl. The bettas loved each other and always kiss each other, and the goldfish is very good at backstroke. In fact, all he does is the backstroke!!
I still use undergravel filtration because they work and are inexpensive, ok depending on the size of the tank and type of fish they' re not the best option. But for nano tanks and specialy for a betta tank they do very well
I have undergravel filtration, but mine is diy made from tubing with holes drilled in it and is reverse-flow. UG gives you all the biological filtration you need for heavily stocked tanks, plants, or just if you don't want to have to gravel vac or change out filters. I worked as a landscaper for several years, and UG powered by a water pump which is connected to a nice waterfall is the go-to for outdoor garden ponds.

I have an undergravel filter in my ten gallon. I don't know why but my African dwarf frogs seem to thrive now. With the hang on the back we would loose one every other month or so with weekly water changes. Filter is the only thing that was changed. Besides that, they love playing in the bubbles. I hadn't used an undergravel filter in a decade but I'm glad I was able to find one.
Yo Chris! So I wok at a fish store and I sold this guy a 10 gallon tank and everything he would need for it. Well then he said he wanted to buy our 4 foot arrowanna for it. After I told him no, he proceeded to ask to buy every large fish (Flowerhorn, red devil, severum, Peacock bass, ect.) that will not physically fit inside his new tank. We have a large selection of tetras, guppies, mollys, platies, barbs and other neat small fish but he wanted a big fish cuz he's a man. Having small fish does not take away from your manliness! I mean, look at you!!

I use that recycle aquaponics set up...When we do water change simply add some of it in the bottom..no live fishes needed! They live in the 90litre tank.
for the betta fish maybe carefully taking a small hand held glass cutter and taking needle nose plyers to pull off pieces from the top?

I'm 13, and I still use my under gravel filter! It keeps it clean looking, it stays hidden and my crap seems to enjoy it, I have a very planted tank with two crabs and 8 fish, it's a 200 gallon if I remember correctly, it's very fun to look at, I'm selling it soon tho as I have no more room for it, I'll be getting a smaller tank, a 5 gallon, and a white beta..

I use undergrads filters and they work great! Dean has even said in videos that he has used them and they work. No maintenance and they don't sick up the fry.

I've had plenty of pets, including fish that my parents made me take care of by myself and I was able to keep 2 goldfish. My parents gave them to me when I was 6 and I had no idea what to do except for feeding them and change their water so they lived until I was 15 I would say...
I was too silly to understand that changing the entirety of water without proper maintenance wasn't actually right, back then.

Lol I still have an under gravel filter in all of our tanks and it goes great with my Fluval U2 filters. Other than using the under gravel pipes as a bubble tower I mainly use it to protect the glass. If I go digging through the old fish tank supplies I can find all sorts of fun and highly outdated things, did you know that plastic plants eventually disintegrate when kept out of water.... that was fun to clean up.
I also have a 40gallon bow front scraped with a mix of coral and wood along with live and fake plants AND the gravel is mostly shades of brown but with pale pink and blue mixed in...... so everything you hate basically lol.
Oooo I think I have a bucket of neon yellow blue and green gravel in the depths of the fish tank storage, it went great with the corner sponge filter and purple fake plants.

I don't have an undergravel filter but my dad still has two of them from when he had tanks in the 80s. He actually has one set up in the 29 gallon he reset up and it seems to run great.

My razorback musk turtles are full grown adults and neither have ever tried to attack any of the fish in their tank. Some of the fish like my pictus cat will even pick the same hides the turtles are in and just chill all day together

Goldfish are some of the cutest and most commonly tortured fish out there.

All my caridina shrimp tanks have Asian under gravel filters, it's one of the best filtration for shrimp tanks
I scored some free under gravel filters last year, so I rigged it with an extra power head and away I went! Turns out that tank is happy, never had issues. I really wanted to give it a try since logically it made sense. I'm happy I did lol

Well I’m a kid and I have a 3 betta (all different tanks) and a minnow tank they are all in good health and I think they count as fish I I take very good care of them do I guess kids can keep fish just not an arrowana keep up the great work love the mic!
My son wtching tv show...kid on the show setting up a fish bowl during the voice over story scenes...my son slowly getting mad watching ...then kids on tv adds a goldfish to the bowl no filter or live plants only bright gravel and statues....My son launch into a 30min rant while at my in laws...proud mumma.
