      What about just not having children until one is self supporting with an education, job, car, health insurance, housing etc. This is not just a conversation about abortion or Planned Parenthood. It is about personal responsibility and self discipline and being held accountable for making poor choices. Black people should want their children to accomplish more than they. Young people depending on the government for benefits to support babies are not ready for parenthood. Witness the number of men killing each other and the number being incarcerated for long periods. Stop with the excuses you didn't know that parenting is "hard" and costly. Men wrap it up and women take your BCP daily and our community will change in 18 years. BCPS are free and condoms prevent all types of unwanted sexually transmitted diseases up to and including pregnancy.

Condoms are cheap and available and they are available even if the Planned Parenthood clinic is closed.When one is in a situation that risks a pregnancy, there's always abstinence. There's no excuse for being irresponsible then using abortion as an escape plan.Sometimes I think that the concept of decency no longer exists.

      Don’t get it look I’m a black American with no kids but I also have three degrees and have opportunities to work decent jobs high paying jobs. How I kept my pants up, stayed away from gangs and jail. The only woman I felt with was my now ex wife and worked hard! I also grew up in on the worst hoods on the south side of Chicago.

    She is a victim of her flawed priorities and bad decision making skills. Having 3 kids without the social infrastructure (i.e. a husband at best a supportive family at least.) and or resources to take proper care of them is like putting a 44 caliber gun to your own head. Having babies when young in most cases sets you up for a lifetime of McJob's! When you can afford children they are joys. When you can't afford children they are anchors / stumbling blocks to any high paying career.
    My niece is a black female human without a husband. She has a kid. Both she and her kid live well. Difference she went to college and got a degree and built a good career path first. She does not have a husband but they are living a fine middle class life. I'm black I'm just finishing a career making a nice living and an ample retirement for myself. I went to college first got my 4.0 GPA in a growth career and now I can retire with few if any cares.
    Having children before you have a career is too often a career killer.

    i am proud of the woman for managing to get out of bad situation and being able to support her family. However isnt the wider issue here more of an issue of someone not being able to rise multiple children by themselves? go back, why does she have multiple children and where is the father? and she said it was the same issue as her own mother - shouldnt this be concern? solve the root of the issue and not the consequence or cycle will never be broken. I do not know the reason for father being absent but it seems like its not a one off, i doubt all single mothers rising their children are forced into it because of tragic accident that killed their fathers - how about more responsibility from both men and women when it comes to commitment, rising children together and not screwing eachother over.

    To break the Poverty Cycle, One must get education and find the right partner. Learn how to SAVE MONEY WITHIN OUR BUDGETS AND just party a little and maintain a Steady job for 8-15 years or more. That's the key....

Hopefully they can stop breaking the wedlock be prosperous again. That being said in a two person households they are most likely doing well already

    If u can’t afford to have multiple kids don’t have them. So many people have kids and just rely on government.... it’s not even a big question of “how am I gonna afford them?”, it’s just automatically assumed that the Gov will cut u a check to do so. Like how u gonna have 3 or 7 kids when u can’t afford them??? I had a single mom and we lived hard for a while but I didn’t go on to have kids I can’t afford. I’m careful (birth control... it’s not hard to take a pill lol) and I’ve never been pregnant. Why is that so hard for others? And if u can afford to go out drinking on weekends u can afford birth control. It’s called priorities and responsibility. Maybe it’s the lack of those two things, not generational poverty, that’s the issue.

    I grew up in a house with no running water, part of the ceiling caving in, no central heat or air conditioning and holes in the floor, a mom that was abusive and a dad that was a drunk, I seldom got new clothes and sometimes had to borrow at school to have enough to buy food, I started working as soon as I was old enough to get a job, I graduated high school, went to college, and love working.....the only one holding you back is you.

    We had generational poverty on both sides of my family, also raised by a single mother. All 3 kids went to college, first generation to do so, and wow look we all got good jobs and are no longer in generational poverty. Your skin color is not stopping you from getting a good degree and a career.

    Generational poverty strikes all skin color. This story tell part of the truth. The US has a social economic problem, not a racial justice problem. But it’s easier for politicians to divide their citizens by skin color. Votes are easier gained

      Rotimi , no laws (other than affirmative action sections) are written to give an advantage to a certain pigment. The race “issue” is a perceived issue. Plenty of affluent and successful citizens of all skin color to prove that. Number one problem is being raised in a broken home.. If you want equal opportunity it’s one thing, equal outcome is different.. Vote for politicians that promote family structures and school choice. A good family and a good education will provide anyone with the opportunity of the American dream

    pay close attention to what were seeing wearing nice clothes long weave yet you complain about poverty notice how all the women in this clip have in common they were raised by single mothers and we can assume they had multiple baby daddies the issue is this behavior is normalized in the black community to procreate without the financial incentive to raise children the party now worry later mindset is what keeps so many blacks in destitution

    Nothing against the people in the story, but there are so many better stories about generational poverty of black Americans who don’t rely on government assistance to have kids that they can’t afford that would better demonstrate the effects of structural racism. Like it or not, the people that they picked for this story are literally walking stereotypes of what conservatives hate. If your thesis is that generational poverty holds back black Americans, then why would you show people who rely on government assistance to have kids that they can’t afford at young ages? A conservative can easily make the argument that it was bad personal decisions rather than generational poverty and structural racism that caused their predicaments. If you showed somebody working 80 hour weeks at minimum wage to support their kids and spouse who has cancer and can’t work, it’d be a lot more powerful in advancing the thesis, which I personally agree with; I just thought this didn’t do a great job presenting it.

    1. Graduate High School on time.
    2. Don't have kids till 21 and especially don't have them out of wedlock!
    3. Work full time, any job you can find.
    4. Ill add another, learn a useful skill.
    5. Learn to save, invest and buy life insurance.

    All young students should have after completing HIGH SCHOOL Graduation the Government should give every USA students a $2500. cash/credit card for graduation. TO choose how to use this money. This will help them become better USA community members.

      The idea is to get the kids motivated to learn and to reach their goals and earn their money. We are not going to spoil our kids but to teach them the best competitive education like from other nations. The idea of giving moneytary gifts is that to give kids who works hard to achieve a boost in their lives..the more you learn or receive credit s the more cash they get on graduation. Show class and achievement not stupidity.

    I had two different friends that had 12kids they said they did it for gov. Asst.they would get tax returns for 20,000$ each yr. And 2,400$ every mo. For food and all kinds of other benefits.they didn't work either.its wrong

    I didn't see anything wrong with this story to be completely honest and in fact I actually saw this as a positive story filled with hope and inspiration for anyone else who could relate to it. I would much rather see stories like this of how some disenfranchised individuals are taking action to better themselves and to break the cycle of poverty in their lives and for future generations. As a black business owner I stand with those who are taking action to change the outlook of their lives by God's grace and mercy. Remember people: Generational poverty is a mindset. It is a way of life for a lot of people. However, there are those who say enough is enough and take action to change things. May God be with them no matter what race they identify with.

    If you have 7 siblings and a mom making slave wages aka minimum wage suffering is baked into the equation. Children can be prevented by the correct use of condoms and physical barrier \ spermacides \ oral contraceptives. Having children when extremely poor is a choice. I raised one male child to adulthood. Sent him to private school then to college. I brought him a car when he graduated high school. You can do these things when you have fewer children.
    It is an equation. Have one or two children and give them awesome lives filled with joy and ample opportunities or have a dozen children and give them lives of crushing poverty and pain. You made your choice dearie STOP WHINING NOW & DEAL WITH IT!

      The best and EASIEST way to keep poverty at bay is to just remain child free. Unplanned children are the main cause of poverty - worldwide!
      Feeding and housing one person (yourself) is much easier and requires less money, time, and effort than feeding, supporting, and housing several small vulnerable people. Duh!

    Sad that some think this is a thing. Life is a culmination of choices. I came from a poor, broken home. Single mom raising 3 of us without child support or government assistance. I learned that hard work and good choices paired with sensible spending got me to where I am today. Started off at $5 an hour flipping burgers. I now work in an office making 70k annually. No favors, no whining, no cutting corners. Every job I took I learned more from and never took a job that made less than the last one. Now I have a home, car, good credit,etc. Break all cycles and stop resting on the crutch of excuses. You can do it!😊

    Oh please. America is the land of opportunity. My husband’s Filipino family came here in the 70’s to flee their third world poverty conditions and they slept 20 people on a floor In a studio, each working 3 jobs. Today they are successful. This is such bull. It’s a culture of bad lifestyle choices and a poverty mindset. I myself am biracial and grew up in poverty but worked my butt off in school to climb my way out.

    It's not just the blacks tha tf are poor I know white folks who have to live in campers and some with others family some white families have no car to drive walk everywhere to get what they need for dinner do without at Christmas where Hammie down clothing out of style and oh yea dinner time are slim for most white families too not just black families who have it hard we all do
    The difference is white folks dont blame hard times on anyone we dont go loot stores and riot we pick up the broken pieces and keep moving on we pray for peace hope for the best in 2021

    I just watched a CZcams video about poverty which featured white women..the differences in the comments on videos where white women are displaying their lives as single moms in poverty vs black women as single moms in poverty is DISGUSTING.

    Track Black Americas history and its easy to understand why they are in that spot. Like LBG said in 1965

    My white daughter and 4 grandchildren are in the same situation only my daughter has to pay child support for her oldest that she's not raising.since she can't afford to raise 4 kids pay bills,pay daycare and pay child support she now has to serve 63 days in jail and her kids has to go 63 days without their mother.

It’s rare that a child free adult, even one who was born into poverty as a child, would remain poor all their lives... unless, of course, they continue the cycle by having children they can’t afford.

    If you see your mother as a single mother struggle with multiple kids. When you are old enough to make decisions you take a similar path. My family grew up poor literally couldn't afford food for 6 kids, because we were new to America and barely spoke English. We are finally ok now and took 1 generation. I think it is a culture. May not always be where you start. But with a better start we hope our kids go further.

Its sad that's its bankrupt I hope there will be more jobs opportunities there in the future...its ironic when you mentioned the car business in Detroit in the past because when I was driving the highway to the city and back home I've seen at least 5 cars in the flames ( on the side of the highway) that apparently broke down , and that's the only time Ive seen it, was crazy 🤪🔥

    No one is talking about the elephant in the room. Races tend to stick together (asian, black, latino, white, jewish, middle eastern, etc) The ones with not just higher education, but higher IQ tend to better for them selves. And no, the whites do not have the highest IQ over all. It's asians, jews, indians, and then whites, then latino, and at the end african americans. The difference is like 20 pts, which is HUGE. Not sure why that is, however in a free market economy the effects are greatly amplified. Look up govt stats on races and IQ. They need to be handled differently to be successfull. You can't just put them in a typical HS room. Debate me on this if You want. Start there though.

      You're ignorant. Black Americans were systematically shut out of economic opportunities by the government (Jim Crow laws), white discrimination, and white vigilantes (The KKK) since their ancestors were brought to the New World in chains.
      My father fought in Europe during World War II. But unlike white soldiers, when he came back from the war he was not given any benefits of The GI Bill. White veterans were given grants for education, and low interest loans to buy homes; Black veterans were not given those opportunities. 2:34

      NBC has done segments on white collar workers who are impoverished and hispanic Americans as well. Some of the segments on rural whites who were living in generational poverty was quite compelling in fact.
