I'm no expert. These are just my thoughts about Harris' "perfect VP".
1. She may need a White male. She is a woman of African and South Asian descent. A White male would balance the perceptions of her femininity and that she might not be able to connect with White males, an electoral group that, according to some surveys, had been increasingly leaning towards the Republican Party.
2. She may need someone with a more centrist record. One thing that the Trump campaign has attacked her on is her "left-wing" record. In a post shared on social media, Trump himself noted that a nonpartisan congressional scorekeeper rated Harris as one of the most "left-wing" lawmakers among Democratic senators during her tenure. Someone with a more centrist record will help balance that.
3. Ideally, she may also need someone with a relatively strong record on border policies, because that is also another area the Trump team often attacks her on.
I think a "perfect VP" for Harris is someone who will complement the Democratic ticket for the White House and mute -- or at least mitigate -- the impact of attacks from the Republican side.
