  • I'll show you a step by step process on how to find the combination to a dial Master Lock. I know this is not brand new info, but I thought I'd put my spin to the process.

    This is probably the 5th video I've seen on this topic and it's easily the best.

    Had a combination lock on a backyard gate but lost the combo. After watching a few other videos, yours was the clearest of them all. Followed your instructions and after about twenty tries it worked. Thanks for taking the time to post.

    Hey Bud. Thank you very much. I watched over 30 videos on how to open my master combo lock without the code and it wasn't until I saw your explanation that I finally got it. Your reverse method is explained thoroughly and concisely. Your starting with discovering the 3rd number first made all the difference. Thanks again, Sir. You rock!!!

    The math is interesting, and is helpful if you get stuck.
    Here’s my simpler method. The first number is easy by feel...add 5 (you added 6, but most videos use 5).
    Start over with a reset. Start with the first calculated number and find the big stop counter-clockwise to find the second number.
    Start over with first and second numbers. From 2nd back off 2 clicks and then in increments of 4 to find 3rd. With slight tension you might not need a count... it will pop open. The 2nd and 3rd will both be even or odd.
    The 2nd number is slightly tougher than the 1st to find by feel. If I get stuck I will use Matt’s easy method to find the first, and then the “mathy” method to double check my feel method for the 2nd.
    These locks are cheap. Worth getting 6 to practice on. Then you will have 6 for someone to hand you one to unlock.
    You should be able to find all 3, eyes closed, except for reading where it stopped on the first 2 numbers.
    Some Jr. High school kid could come in early and open a few locker locks in a row. A mystery to be talked about.

    You did good to find your last number.! But an easier way to get the possible First #'s is to use you last # Add or Take away 4 and make the list... That will be your list of Possible First Numbers. Now find a list of second Numbers will be between those... Like -2 or +2 the the list of numbers you just wrote down for you first Numbers.. 1 - 5 - 9 - 13 etc... add 2 = 3,7,11,15 etc...

    Screw the math part. Toughest part is feeling the first and 2nd number. The amount of tension on the lock is key. Took me 2 hours but finally got it. 3rd number you’ll get once you have the first 2 numbers simply by keeping tension on the lock until it pops

    I have to state that after watching several of these video, each one starts knowing the combination which automatically imposes a bias. When I try this I notice that it's impossible to tell the difference between 13.5 and13 for example. So the choices for the 3rd number showed two distinct patterns 0, 10, 20, 30 vs. 13, 23, 33. So at that point it falls apart.

    As usual thanks for the DIY video, the issue is you go through way too much just to get the 3rd and 1st numbers. All that math isn't needed at all. Just like you did in the video find your 3rd number, the first number can simply be found by finding the resistance and adding 5. Then trial and error by increments of 2 on the 2nd number and done. you could be into the lock within 5 minutes but with all this math it took you 20 minutes.

    • @metalmattchew
      @metalmattchew  Před 3 lety +1

      Putting pressure on the shackle the dial will lock in 12 positions. 7 numbers will stop with the arrow between like 10 and 11, count that as 10.5. The other 5 will straddle one number like 13.5 and 14.5 so that number is 14. 4 of the 5 whole number will end in the same number. The odd one out is the last number in the combination.

    After determining my 12 positions and checking them several times, my results were 37, 27, 17, 7 & 34.
    34÷4= 8.5 (Not in the range of 0,1,2 or 3) not exactly sure how to make this work!

      You might want to check your numbers again. 7 of the numbers will end in .5 the other five will be whole numbers 4 of which will end in the same digit. The odd one out is the last number in the combination.

    What ? 17 divided by is 4.25, so my number is 4, yet it doesn't fit... wot ?

    • @metalmattchew
      @metalmattchew  Před 5 lety

      dexos333333 so if your last digit is 17? Then 17 divided by 4 is 4 with a remainder of 1. So your first and second digits will match my numbers in the video. The whole number doesn't matter, it's the remainder number that you are looking for.

      @@metalmattchew sorry, i'm really going to sound stupid, but english is not my native language, what is a remainder ?
      Edit: By the way, thanks for the help :)

    • @metalmattchew
      @metalmattchew  Před 5 lety

      A remainder is what's left over, without converting to a fraction or decimal. So in your case of 17, devided by 4 would be 4. 4 times 4 is 16. 17 minus 16 is 1.
