As an American 20-year Navy veteran living in Barnaul, Russia (5 years next month), I greatly enjoy and appreciate your videos. In this particular video I actually learned something that I've been trying to understand about the Russian soul. My wife is a senior doctor who is very serious in her profession, yet earns the equivalent of only $350 per month. I am also severely disabled and so I deal with a lot of other doctors, as well. It always amazes me how dedicated they are while earning so little! Your explanation of the Russian soul put it all into perspective for me and I thank you. They are not at all motivated by material wealth or prestige but by honor to their families, their colleagues, their God and their country. I love this about the Russian people. Every day that I can get out, I see case after case of strangers helping each other without waiting for thanks. It's happened to me many, many times, in fact. Most recently, I fell while walking my dog and a young, very petite lady helped me to my feet, then disappeared before I could thank her properly. Just like you, I’m a former US Marine and my parents where immigrants (Colombian to be exact). I married a Russian and have also loved abroad for years. I’ll be going to a former Soviet Republic for a year in the next two weeks. Many of my good friends today are Russian. For some reason I tend to get a long great with Russians because I find them to be very sincere and honest when you get to know them. Obviously every culture will have its bad apples but to be honest, I’ve never had any problems with Russia and I don’t consider Russia to be a natural enemy of ours. I think we do share much in common but I will say that I can appreciate the Russian soul. Also, I will say that in many regards the American Dream is dead. We are not the country we used to be. Sure, we can debate on why this is the case but I think for many people, they are realizing that we are living in a bubble that will pop at any moment. I don’t consider you a traitor at all. I think you are a patriot and one who has done his share for the US and now is trying to give something back to Russia. Just like you, I too might leave the US, not because I hate the US or because I’m a “traitor”. It’s because I don’t like what our country is becoming and I want to go where I’ll be happier.

I agree man. I served in Iraq, my uncle Vietnam, both grandpas served in WWII and one in Korea, my grandfather's great grandfather served in the civil war for the North. My family lineage goes back all the way to the Mayflower and my family has served in every major war. 400+ year American here descendant of the very first forefathers and I am looking at moving to a different country for many reasons. This country is going downhill rapidly no one is willing to rise up and fight against the change and I'm ready to leave. We loved fishing and hiking and his parents would ask me to stay for dinner and was introduced to Russian cuisine. I learned a few words and for that as a kid I said ," I speak 3 languages "😅. I knew English and Spanish but only a few Russian words but was proud. We both went to learn the ACCORDION and I was hooked. The music not only taught me to love Russian music but I was beginning to " feel " the Russian heart❤ Fast forward decades, the Soviet Union collapsed and was all ears on news from Russia. But I started noticing here in America they did not like that Russia could become an " economic " COMPETITIT so they said nothing nice about Russia. TODAY the news and Washington works to BRAINWASH Americans thay Russians are evil. But I went to ST PETERSBURG JAZZ FESTIVAL and saw Russian, German, American jazz players together and loved the unity. I have a Russian girl and no one can change me.

It was a long road for her to get into medicine, and she is one of a handful of Russians who did it here. We have been married almost 30 years. In the early years I travelled to Russia ten times, and learned to read and write Russian. The Russian soul is a deep well, ancient knowledge, love of nation and country.... Russiani are many ethnicities. By the way I am also an American veteran, and always tell congress to change the VA system, to give all eligible veterans a medical card like Blue Cross to go anywhere they want for medical care. This is so weird, because while I was doing tourism in Russia - I felt like I was finally home. I do not speak their language, nor do I understand their culture and I hate winter by all means. Yet, I somehow felt home, it was a very emotional feeling for me - because despite living in US and being born in South America. I just could not understand why I felt this emotion inside of me, my only resolved so far is that in a previous life I was a Russian soldier. I do not really believe in reincarnation but I just can not understand the emotion I had while in Saransk. I do not think you betrayed US, if anything the system has failed you, therefore the country has failed you. When I was 20 I nearly joined the Air Force, if it wasn't that they asked me to acquired a paper from my college and my counselor was a US Army veteran from Vietnam who persuaded me to not join. He also felt like the country has failed him and apparently not much has been done to remedy that.

I also really like to travel the world, I ve been in almost 40 countries (in Venezuela and Tunisia just in the last year) and from all my travels my favorite one was in Mexico (Cancun, 2013). Мы не сможем быть вместе с Китаем например, мы не сможем быть вместе с Западом (с Англией например), мы не сможем быть вместе с Турцией или Арабами... это разные цивилизации. Когда говорят Русский мир или Русская цивилизация, это не про национальность (а то некоторые обижаются сразу... типо "меня забыли")). Это цивилизационное понятие. Вот немка по национальности была самая Русская императрица , самый русский поэт был внуком эфиопа и тд... Это догмы последних десятилетий когда мы докоснулись до Западной цивилизации и эти разрушительные поры перекинулись и на наше тело. У нас так никогда не думали (такими категориями). Вот есть Американец независимо от национальности... так же и Русский мир. Это как малая и большая Родина. Малая, это своя самобытная культура, религия, этнос и тд.. и большая, принадлежность к цивилизации, к единым ценностям ...
Весь секрет схожести менталитета народов стран СНГ это советское прошлое. После развала СССР наши пути медленно но верно расходятся. Ещё пара поколений - и ничего общего не останется между нами, если всё будет идти так как сейчас идёт. Так называемый "русский мир", "русская цивилизация" - это эрзац советского общества. Только в СССР было понятно ради чего объединяться - чтобы построить справедливое общество, где плоды общего труда делятся на всех, а главная цель - не финансовая прибыль, а максимальное развитие творческих способностей личности. Это то что декларировалось в социалистическом государстве, а сейчас у нас на дворе капитализм, поэтому и приходится нашим правящим элиткам придумывать конструкты типа "русского мира" чтобы податное население хоть как-то в кучу собрать.

СССР не причина, а результат более глубинных и фундаментальных явлений и признаков. Свет клином на СССР не сошелся. Это лишь вспышка и не более. Вы смотрите на мир матириалистично (типо людей объединяют какие-то физические блага или политический строй. Вы как раз рассуждаете в парадигме "американской мечты" (приземленно и материалистично). А на самом деле нас влияют иные, ценностные аспекты. Нас, соседей на этой территории объединяет именно ценностная и культурная составляющая, а СССР лишь оформил границами это естественное состояние. Мы просто станем китайцами все. )) Потому что границы, это защита одной культуры и одной цивилизации. И сейчас хоть физические границы опять треснули, распались, но (как сказал выше автор комментария) всё равно мы чувствуем единую цивилизационную и культурную принадлежность. Почему идеи СССР так легко и естественно легли на этой территории (и почему они вообще здесь появились) и так естественно внедрились и принялись... да потому что это люди, культура, единой цивилизации и ценностей (а политический строй или материальные блага или физические границы (там элиты разные и тд..), это не имеет значение.Речь про духовное, про душу, а вы всё сводите к материализму.

If you'd ask about russian soul, even native russian wouldn't know what exactly to say. You can only feel it, just as you described. This feeling just comes to you once and then you just know. It can't be put in words, can't be given a definition. Its more like feeling yourself a part of a vast space, part of the cold air early in the morning. And this feeling of belonging to something greater is just so clear that with time this bond grows stronger and you can't live out of this bond. Probably that's why many years ago there was a punishment in Russia - its a expulsion from the country. Funny, but for russian people it was really hard to live far from their motherland. That's why it was a punishment. So if being in russia you have that vague but overwhelming feeling, you are just welcome. Just like our fairy tales say: if you're a girl, you'd be a sister to us, if you're a young man, you'd be a brother. So, brother, welcome home, be happy here and find as much peace as you can.
Interesting. I've recently read a book about world war II Russian vets moving on with other wives outside of Russia, but they chose to go back even if it meant imprisonment and losing their new wives. (Navalny would be a new age type. Although I see his reasons as being very ambitious compared to a nobody.) I'm American who used to live in Russia. It really takes many generations to get a new identity in a new land which might be the reason. (As you can see by his video, he is connected more to his Mexican roots.) My ancestry is all English from as recent as 1890s to American Revolutionary times. England isn't important to our family, but we would still consider visiting where the ancestors came from.

As a child, I loved to read books by Jack London, Mayne Reed or Fenimore Cooper. In the USSR, these authors were very popular, and several films were made based on the book "The Last of the Mohicans". Many children wanted to be like Chingachgook. We played Indians and dreamed of being honest, proud, strong and standing up for our people to the end. Heroes like Chingachgook are a true example of American values. By the way, little has changed since then. Destroy the indigenous population, take away their land and resources and make them dependent on alcohol. I may have mentioned this to you earlier: if I was your age, I would leave the United States and move to Russia in a heartbeat. This country is spiraling downhill very fast and it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. I have way too much to say about why I would leave, but suffice it to say that I was very “successful” in my profession and retired with more money than I’ll ever spend before I die. You're a combat veteran of foreign war. In this world there's nothing else higher. I'm old enough to remember a better U.S. and Mexico. I live in Texas. My great grandfather named Weslaco in Hidalgo county, "the Valley" area in South Texas. In the 1970's we would take day trips to Matamoros. But not anymore. I really wish I could visit Russia also. Most of Mexico's problems are a complication of being next to the U.S. I'm also a student of history, which means I don't trust politicians. You're only pointing out real problems that have exponentially increased during the last 40 years. You have become a world ambassador. I truly hope you're happy and healthy. As a first generation immigrant myself from Greece to the USA I have many things that relates with you and your family. Your Mexican heritage and values are very similar to how I was raised. Living in New York and seeing first hand the decay of the society and values that made this country so appealing to live and work and have a family. Indeed the American dream is dead. There is a difference of an immigrant who goes to another country to work and contribute to a society and the immigrants who are living on handouts. I'm a British veteran, luckily I wasn't wounded over there, but our soldiers literally have to have total reliance on charities here, because we do not even have a VA equivalent. Hello Dan, As I told You before, I already left the US because I can't afford to live there on SSDI. I love living in Tbilisi Georgia. I made the decision in less than a month (last year) to move here, and it's the best decision I ever made! I don't feel like a poor person here, I'm able to do many things I couldn't back in Florida. So am I supposed to say I’m a American or what? Ya my dad was the first in our family to get a engineering degree! And he was in the Navy! So what does that make me? Should I be proud of what? Now, as the United States is in decline, and Russia is showing strength, not economic, but militarily and politically it seems to me like Russia is the obvious choice for people to move to. As an American 20-year Navy veteran living in Barnaul, Russia (5 years next month), I greatly enjoy and appreciate your videos. In this particular video I actually learned something that I've been trying to understand about the Russian soul. My wife is a senior doctor who is very serious in her profession, yet earns the equivalent of only $350 per month. I am also severely disabled and so I deal with a lot of other doctors, as well. It always amazes me how dedicated they are while earning so little! Your explanation of the Russian soul put it all into perspective for me and I thank you. They are not at all motivated by material wealth or prestige but by honor to their families, their colleagues, their God and their country. I love this about the Russian people. Every day that I can get out, I see case after case of strangers helping each other without waiting for thanks. It's happened to me many, many times, in fact. Most recently, I fell while walking my dog and a young, very petite lady helped me to my feet, then disappeared before I could thank her properly. Thanks again for your work, and tell me how I might be able to help you keep it going.

Just like you, I’m a former US Marine and my parents where immigrants (Colombian to be exact). I married a Russian and have also loved abroad for years. I’ll be going to a former Soviet Republic for a year in the next two weeks. Many of my good friends today are Russian. For some reason I tend to get a long great with Russians because I find them to be very sincere and honest when you get to know them. Obviously every culture will have its bad apples but to be honest, I’ve never had any problems with Russia and I don’t consider Russia to be a natural enemy of ours. I think we do share much in common but I will say that I can appreciate the Russian soul. Also, I will say that in many regards the American Dream is dead. We are not the country we used to be. Sure, we can debate on why this is the case but I think for many people, they are realizing that we are living in a bubble that will pop at any moment. I don’t consider you a traitor at all. I think you are a patriot and one who has done his share for the US and now is trying to give something back to Russia. Just like you, I too might leave the US, not because I hate the US or because I’m a “traitor”. It’s because I don’t like what our country is becoming and I want to go where I’ll be happier.

As a child, my first 'best' friend lived next door was a Russian neighbor. He was 12,I was 10. We loved fishing and hiking and his parents would ask me to stay for dinner and was introduced to Russian cuisine.
I learned a few words and for that as a kid I said ," I speak 3 languages "😅. I knew English and Spanish but only a few Russian words but was proud. We both went to learn the ACCORDION and I was hooked. Eventually I fell in love with Russian composers,Tchaikovsky, Rachmoninoff, Scriabin etc when I took up the piano.
The music not only taught me to love Russian music but I was beginning to " feel " the Russian heart❤
Fast forward decades, the Soviet Union collapsed and was all ears on news from Russia. But I started noticing here in America they did not like that Russia could become an " economic " COMPETITIT so they said nothing nice about Russia. TODAY the news and Washington works to BRAINWASH Americans thay Russians are evil.
But I went to ST PETERSBURG JAZZ FESTIVAL and saw Russian, German, American jazz players together and loved the unity. I have a Russian girl and no one can change me.

Hello Brother! First of all, Merry Orthodox Christmas! My Catholic friends are celebrating Epiphany today. We are Orthodox. My wife is from Saratov and is a practicing medical doctor in the USA. It was a long road for her to get into medicine, and she is one of a handful of Russians who did it here. We have been married almost 30 years. In the early years I travelled to Russia ten times, and learned to read and write Russian. The Russian soul is a deep well, ancient knowledge, love of nation and country.... Russiani are many ethnicities. By the way I am also an American veteran, and always tell congress to change the VA system, to give all eligible veterans a medical card like Blue Cross to go anywhere they want for medical care. Not to a stupid government-run VA clinic. Congratulations on your new life, and marriage into the Russian tribe. One of these days we may return to Russia permanently. It is a great nation.

This is so weird, because while I was doing tourism in Russia - I felt like I was finally home. I do not speak their language, nor do I understand their culture and I hate winter by all means. Yet, I somehow felt home, it was a very emotional feeling for me - because despite living in US and being born in South America. I just could not understand why I felt this emotion inside of me, my only resolved so far is that in a previous life I was a Russian soldier. I do not really believe in reincarnation but I just can not understand the emotion I had while in Saransk. I do not think you betrayed US, if anything the system has failed you, therefore the country has failed you. When I was 20 I nearly joined the Air Force, if it wasn't that they asked me to acquired a paper from my college and my counselor was a US Army veteran from Vietnam who persuaded me to not join. He also felt like the country has failed him and apparently not much has been done to remedy that.

It's the same as tajik soul or any CIS (СНГ) countries I guess. And it's cool that mexican people think like us (or we like you). Its a human-way of living. We are all the same, but somehow for some people values in life are different. Извини for my English 😂
Мы не зря в истории объединились когда-то. Потому что мы народы одной культуры и одних ценностей. Иначе мы не смогли бы жить вместе и мы бы отторгали друг друга. Мы люди одной цивилизации. Всё-таки она называется Русская цивилизация или Русский мир. Это не унижает и не притесняет ни одну национальность и ни один народ. Русский мир это не про национальность, это принадлежность к цивилизации. Быть частью Русского мира никак не отрицает принадлежность к своему народу, языку, традиции, религии и тд... а наоборот, даже усиляет. Потому что Русский мир, это взаимопроникновение и взаимообогащение различных культур, народов, традиций, религий и тд... Это не про национальности. Так получилось, что люди и культуры с одинаковыми ценностями притягиваются к друг другу в рамках одной цивилизации. Мы не просто так оказались вместе. Это физика мироздания (тела с одинаковыми физическими свойствами притягиваются друг к другу). Мы не сможем быть вместе с Китаем например, мы не сможем быть вместе с Западом (с Англией например), мы не сможем быть вместе с Турцией или Арабами... это разные цивилизации. Когда говорят Русский мир или Русская цивилизация, это не про национальность (а то некоторые обижаются сразу... типо "меня забыли")). Это цивилизационное понятие. Вот немка по национальности была самая Русская императрица , самый русский поэт был внуком эфиопа и тд... Просто у некоторых слово Русский уже вызывает образ в голове навязанный на Западный манер через призму политики и национальностей. Это догмы последних десятилетий когда мы докоснулись до Западной цивилизации и эти разрушительные поры перекинулись и на наше тело. У нас так никогда не думали (такими категориями). Вот есть Американец независимо от национальности... так же и Русский мир. Это как малая и большая Родина. Малая, это своя самобытная культура, религия, этнос и тд.. и большая, принадлежность к цивилизации, к единым ценностям ...
Весь секрет схожести менталитета народов стран СНГ это советское прошлое. После развала СССР наши пути медленно но верно расходятся. Ещё пара поколений - и ничего общего не останется между нами, если всё будет идти так как сейчас идёт.
Так называемый "русский мир", "русская цивилизация" - это эрзац советского общества. Только в СССР было понятно ради чего объединяться - чтобы построить справедливое общество, где плоды общего труда делятся на всех, а главная цель - не финансовая прибыль, а максимальное развитие творческих способностей личности. Это то что декларировалось в социалистическом государстве, а сейчас у нас на дворе капитализм, поэтому и приходится нашим правящим элиткам придумывать конструкты типа "русского мира" чтобы податное население хоть как-то в кучу собрать.

Вы смотрите на мир матириалистично (типо людей объединяют какие-то физические блага или политический строй. Вы как раз рассуждаете в парадигме "американской мечты" (приземленно и материалистично). А на самом деле нас влияют иные, ценностные аспекты. Нас, соседей на этой территории объединяет именно ценностная и культурная составляющая, а СССР лишь оформил границами это естественное состояние. Почему идеи СССР так легко и естественно легли на этой территории (и почему они вообще здесь появились) и так естественно внедрились и принялись... да потому что это люди, культура, единой цивилизации и ценностей (а политический строй или материальные блага или физические границы (там элиты разные и тд..), это не имеет значение.Речь про духовное, про душу, а вы всё сводите к материализму.

If you'd ask about russian soul, even native russian wouldn't know what exactly to say. You can only feel it, just as you described. This feeling just comes to you once and then you just know. It can't be put in words, can't be given a definition. Its more like feeling yourself a part of a vast space, part of the cold air early in the morning. And this feeling of belonging to something greater is just so clear that with time this bond grows stronger and you can't live out of this bond. Probably that's why many years ago there was a punishment in Russia - its a expulsion from the country. Funny, but for russian people it was really hard to live far from their motherland. That's why it was a punishment. So if being in russia you have that vague but overwhelming feeling, you are just welcome. Just like our fairy tales say: if you're a girl, you'd be a sister to us, if you're a young man, you'd be a brother. So, brother, welcome home, be happy here and find as much peace as you can.
Interesting. I've recently read a book about world war II Russian vets moving on with other wives outside of Russia, but they chose to go back even if it meant imprisonment and losing their new wives. (Navalny would be a new age type. Although I see his reasons as being very ambitious compared to a nobody.) I'm American who used to live in Russia. It really takes many generations to get a new identity in a new land which might be the reason. (As you can see by his video, he is connected more to his Mexican roots.) My ancestry is all English from as recent as 1890s to American Revolutionary times. England isn't important to our family, but we would still consider visiting where the ancestors came from.

I was referring rather to more distant times. For example, there was russian writer who lived in Finland in exile. On the shore of Gulf of Finland to be exact. And he could see the opposite (russian) shore every day. So one of his last novels is about how maddening it was to see it and not being able to return. Literally its the most detailed and frightening story about him losing his mind. Well, that's more like a story I would refer to))

I am also full blooded Navajo, and being in Afghanistan was just like being back at home on the reservation.
Lately, Siberia, has been on on my mind. I want to travel, and heal, as you said, I want to visit Afghanistan again one day, then of course the surrounding areas.
I've been out well over 10 years, absolutely zero service connected benefits, and home doesn't feel like home anymore.

As a child, I loved to read books by Jack London, Mayne Reed or Fenimore Cooper. In the USSR, these authors were very popular, and several films were made based on the book "The Last of the Mohicans". Many children wanted to be like Chingachgook. We played Indians and dreamed of being honest, proud, strong and standing up for our people to the end. Heroes like Chingachgook are a true example of American values. By the way, little has changed since then. Destroy the indigenous population, take away their land and resources and make them dependent on alcohol. And at the same time, keep smiling and talking about democracy to the whole world. Nothing has changed. I may have mentioned this to you earlier: if I was your age, I would leave the United States and move to Russia in a heartbeat. This country is spiraling downhill very fast and it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets any better. I have way too much to say about why I would leave, but suffice it to say that I was very “successful” in my profession and retired with more money than I’ll ever spend before I die. But, the U.S. is no longer a good place to live. Your video was inspiring, and I wish more Americans would see it. Thank you!

As a first generation immigrant myself from Greece to the USA I have many things that relates with you and your family. Your Mexican heritage and values are very similar to how I was raised.
Living in New York and seeing first hand the decay of the society and values that made this country so appealing to live and work and have a family.
Indeed the American dream is dead.
There is a difference of an immigrant who goes to another country to work and contribute to a society and the immigrants who are living on handouts.

I'm a British veteran, luckily I wasn't wounded over there, but our soldiers literally have to have total reliance on charities here, because we do not even have a VA equivalent. Hello Dan, As I told You before, I already left the US because I can't afford to live there on SSDI. I love living in Tbilisi Georgia. I made the decision in less than a month (last year) to move here, and it's the best decision I ever made!
I don't feel like a poor person here, I'm able to do many things I couldn't back in Florida. I am hoping to come to Russia to visit, sometime this year. Hurry back to Russia, You and Ksenia have been apart for TOO LONG!
