    I admire people who can admit when they are wrong.
    Especially when they do it without being pressured.

      "I admire people who can admit when they are wrong"
      - Well, it was more of a half-hearted apology. All he did was state his initial assessment of the incident was harsh in attributing blame to Senna. He didn't absolve Senna of it. Hunt also said "I still maintain ... he [Senna] could have avoided it".

    There will never be another a James Hunt. He was "carefree" back in his day, but he was a very lucid man. So sad he died so young, because his opinion would still be, today, so very interesting, and so enlightened as always. And the contrast with Murray Walker was most interesting, like 100 years apart.

      Around the outside is standard by many drivers esp. if their car is faster & handles better... Amazes me when a car goes around the outside & overtakes into the corner they get the blame for an accident... The car behind should be yielding...

    Well I've never driven a F1 car but from my experience of my brother working for Ferrari and also the fact that I've been to 48 grand Prix during my life time . And also following F1 since 78 I'd have to say that there is a place going into that particular bend when you can overtake if you hug the left outside kerb . But on that particular occasion Nigel got it wrong . Nigel turned in . It's a very strange accident where maybe both guys should have some blame

    • @thepsychologist8159

      Or, Senna could have just let Mansell pass before the corner. As Hunt said "I still maintain ... he [Senna] could have avoided it".
      - Take the example of the recent Chinese GP. Alonso got the jump on Perez however Alonso knew his battle wasn't with Perez on the day and let him pass before the corner. If Senna had done the same thing, he would have avoided any chance of a collision.

    The Brit fanbois blame Senna for every crash Mansell and Senna ever had - when in fact Mansell caused almost ALL of them - Adelaide 85 and Brazil 86 were 50/50 - racing incidents - but otherwise Mansell was at fault EVERY SINGLE TIME!

    Reminds me of Zandvoort when Andretti tried to go round the outside of Hunt at Tarzan around 1977. They collided and blamed each other. Hunt complained that Andretti shouldn't be trying to overtake on the outside of a corner and Andretti said he would overtake anywhere.
    Hunt can be seen giving Colin Chapman an earful after the incident. Chapman wisely avoided a verbal confrontation.

    • @thepsychologist8159
      @thepsychologist8159 Před 19 dny

      Well, to be fair on Andretti he did take a wide berth on that corner and the incident wouldn't have occurred had it not been for Hunt not leaving space on the exit.
      The similarity here is, Hunt got the jump off the start like Senna did at Spa but he was in a slower car that was eventually going to be overtaken. Hunt should have realized that and should have let Andretti pass at a time that would not have disadvantage either driver, not fight a position he was never going to keep. Like Senna should have done at Spa.

      @@AlanMcB Mansell is one of the biggest morons in the history of the sport. I recall Murray stating that he had something bad to say about his then teammate Riccardo Patrese. And that Patrese was one of the nicest racers ever. Basically stating that the problem was Mansell. I also heard he was very hard to get along with. I recently seen footage of him using the F word against his Williams pit crew. The late Barry Sheene interviewed him when he moved to the U.S. and asked him why he didn't move to Australia like Barry himself. He got offended over the question and stated, "Because your there", whilst shaking his head in anger with a frown on his face. There was nothing sinister with the question. There was afew other bad responses he gave which I can't recall now.

    Daft comment, I love James but he’s wrong here. He’s basically saying if you start the overtake but the other guy takes you off it’s your fault for initiating it. It doesn’t take many replays to see Mansell had passed Senna but Senna then ran into Nigel.
    Yes it was a naive move, there’s no disputing that but we’re apportioning fault not naivety
