Lauda was, for me, somewhat of a superhero-being when I grew up considering the unimaginable pain he endured and the recovery he made. As I grew up and moved into adulthood, my respect and admiration for him only grew. He was a remarkable man, as was Hunt, and I remember them like many others as true legends of their sport.

And even knowing he was not my dad's favorite driver at the time. He gained so much respect for getting back in a car and race the way he did. In a way, since Niki himself passed away in 2019, I comfort myself by thinking of James Hunt telling him about how happy he was when he died and how proud he was of Niki not only for his accomplishments as a driver, but what he achieved later (like setting up Lauda Air and helping Mercedes reach that unprecedented level of success that they had between 2014 and 2021, securing 8 Constructors Titles and 7 Drivers Titles in that time)

Saw the movie, watched some back videos, but gleaned more in these few minutes about their relationship than I would have thought. For those who have seen Band of Brothers, it reminds of Winters and Nixon. Two qualified, intelligent, and capable comrades who did their jobs equally well, but with almost diametrically opposite approaches. Yet there was mutual respect and admiration, and friendship. Didn’t realize that was possible until I got old, and appreciate it to this day.

I remember working at the theater and Rush was one of the upcoming movies. It kinda intrigued me but that was it. Just thought it was a fictional movie about racing. So 10 years later, yesterday, I actually just watched it the other night when I came home late from work. Didn’t have anything to watch so found it on Netflix. I was hooked from the start. Realized these guys were real since I had no knowledge of formula one. Of course I’m sure the movie took some liberties but I really thought it was a great movie. Daniel Bruhl’s acting was top notch and Hemsworth made me forget he was Thor. And as always Graham’s interview was very enjoyable.
