    Thank you for making these videos! I really appreciate the simple, straight forward way you do these things. I've never tried doing any maintenance on a vehicle before. I just took it to the dealer. Thanks to your videos I worked up the courage to replace the rear diff cover, both differential fluids, the transfer case, the oil & filter, the transmission fluid, internal & external filters on my 2019 3500 Duramax. Went well except I guess I didn't spin on that external transmission filter quite right because when I started the truck it blew fluid all over the place. Seems ok now though! Thanks again!

    Great process video. I've always done as much of my own maintenance as I could. Basic transmission pan removal for any make I ever owned.
    Helps get me going to change the drive fluids on my little Ford Escape AWD. No tranny pan, just drain and fill. Transfer case has a drain, thank goodness. The rear diff only has a fill hole and no way to drain - In Fords infinite wisdom...🤯...so I'll be snaking some tubing in there to suction out the old oil...

    Man it’s kind of funny you just posted this video. I just got home with a camper last night going down to Rockwood to drop it off later this morning and was going to do the exact same thing to my truck when I get back later today. The last time mine was changed it was at 200k and now I’m at 340k miles Really curious to see what my magnet on the inside of the pan looks like. I’m hoping it looks as good as yours did. Seams like nearly every maintenance or issue you have mine shortly follows we’re running really close on miles. The rear end issue was pretty much the same so I’m guessing about 300k is the life of those bearings. Ended up doing pretty much a rebuild on it as far as bearings and seals. I appreciate the hell out of your videos Bud they have helped me so much last couple years on my truck. Keep em coming. Stay safe my friend

    Thanks Charles for posting this video. The fact that there were so little debris and shavings on the magnet is a testament to how durable and well built these transmissions are. Hopefully the 10 speed "Allison" in my '22 will be as dependable. It has so far been the smoothest and most precise transmission Ihave ever had in a truck.

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Před 2 lety

      That's awesome, i don't hear a lot about the 10 speeds. It's good to hear good things. I'm amazed at how I've beat on mine and that's about what i get everytime I've pulled the pan. Think because i have the slight grind when the tourque converter locks in its got me expecting damage but it keeps impressing me

    • @white24valve
      @white24valve Před 2 lety +1

      I have horror stories about the 10 speed GM transmission that are not 100% Allison trans. That is alot of shifting,smooth shifting equal clutch slippage. Driving a stock Allison 6 speed vs one with either a EPC Fooler or TCM is night and day difference! You tube search EPC fooler..let me find and post a link here...

    How does the fluid flow in the transmission? Intake is from

    I use 5w-30 full synthetic oil in my transfer case. I also instead of filling at the fill plug I take the speed sensor out so I can over fill it a half of a quart. I use to have shavings on my magnet like yours. But since I’ve been doing it this way there is nearly nothing comes out on the magnet plug.

      @CFarmer  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! I'll have to try that next time

    • @dylanduncan407
      @dylanduncan407 Před 2 lety +1

      @@CFarmer no problem. The reason I over fill it a half a quart with the 5w-30 is because it doesn’t expand like trans fluid does so you got to put a little extra. I swear by it. Trans fluid is a good lubricant but it’s only 0W

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Před 2 lety +1

      Honestly, i was surprised when i found that's what it called for. I'm worried with the miles on it if i change up I'll get leaks. Had that happen before. That's why i haven't changed over to synthetic engine oil

    • @dylanduncan407
      @dylanduncan407 Před 2 lety +2

      @@CFarmer that’s understandable. It could possibly cause leaks. The reason that the factory calls for trans fluid is. There is a seal between the transfer case and the transmission. If that seal ever goes out it’ll make it to we’re the transfer case leaks into the transmission or the other way around it will be trans fluid that leaks thru instead of oil getting into your transmission. That’s my understanding. But Iv been around a lot of duramax and Iv never heard or seen of that seal ever going bad so that’s why I run oil in mine.

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Před 2 lety

    It is my understanding Allision only recommends the internal filter change after a failure

    • @CFarmer
      @CFarmer  Před 2 lety +4

      I'm thinking about changing t case every 50k instead of 100k and i was told the same about the filter by gm but a Allison dealer in Birmingham said 100k. I figure if I'm going to go as far as draining the fluid i want to look at the magnet and if I'm going to pull the pan might as well change the filter

    • @JLC87420
      @JLC87420 Před rokem +2

      I mean GM suggests transfer case fluid at every 45k for normal use or 22.5k for severe use. The more often you change filters really isn’t going to damage anything but your wallet so why not change them more often.
