Just in case anyone is wondering. The new game will combine both Survivor Lara (reboot ) and Classic Lara. I hope they can find a good mix between the slow, puzzle gameplay of the old games and the fast pace action of the newer ones. (I also hope Camilla Luddington still voice acts for her, she did an amazing job)

@@ethandoyle4978 I’m assuming it means they combine stories, gameplay, and characters into one. And honestly idk how Lara herself will be, I think (and hope) they are able to find a way to blend the effortlessly badass Lara from the classics with the more vulnerable “human” Lara from the new games.
This news is pretty exciting! Can't wait to hear and see more Tomb Raider! The Foundation Engine was pretty amazing and Crystal really set a benchmark of visual fidelity with it but it's really cool to know that this next project is gonna really be built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5.

My favourite single player game returns with Unreal Engine 5??!! I imagine exploring the amazing environments , solving the mysteries of the tombs , feeling the unique atmosphere of the maps with these great realistic graphics and textures of the UE5.... I can't waiiiiit !!!
Can’t wait! I liked Survivor Lara but I really hope in this game Lara will be more like Classic Lara or Legend Lara. Sexy, cool, badass, iconic.

Great news, I'm very curious about the power of this engine and all exciting possibilities it offers! Let's hope we don't have to wait too long before unified Lara finds her way to us, but with small updates like these I will be more than happy in the meantime.
This engine wasn't so great 7 years. Had a lot of performance and streaming but after fortnite success they made it one of the best engine with all that money. I have been using this engine and it really makes game development the easiest.
@@kpo1233 Thanks for the info! (My knowledge of UE only reaches so far that I know that the first three Harry Potter PC games were made using this engine (HP1&2: UE1, HP3: UE2))
I always presumed that all Unreal Engines build on top of each other, is that indeed the case or is UE5 really designed in a fundamentally different way than UE4? I heard somewhere that they designed this one from the bottom up again, but maybe that's not true.
I'm curious about the development speed of the new game by the way - if a lot of the programmers have to make an engine switch and get used to the new one, this can seriously delay the arrival of the new game, but if development is relatively intuitive (or easy, like you claim), then maybe making the switch will not that bad? What do you think?
@@MdB92 Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy is also being power by Unreal engine 4 and yes Unreal engine 5 is still highly improved version of Unreal 4 with more new features like Nanite and Lumen but it's different form the older engine Unreal 4 because it's improved. Yes it takes time to switch form 4 to 5 because of extra work like fixing the lights and geometry and some materials too but there is no need to if you are not going to use Nanite or Lumen. Unreal 4 is still a great engine but with more ue5 updates, it will move farther away from Unreal engine 4 so this is the best time to switch for developers.
@@kpo1233 But Crystal has to make a switch from their own engine (Foundation Engine) to UE5, so I think it will take more time? (it all depends on how different FE and UE are) But let's hope it won't take them too long...

@@jameslevy8347 aod was the continuation as well as a few books that were based on the cancelled unfinished games in the aod trilogy. Sadly the books are not available like anywhere or are super pricey

I want the real deal, not some half assed compromise or a "in the spirit of" abomination.
More breathing space for exploration and immersion please with less frequent interruptions by cut-scenes.. bring back that feel from the original games where you got lost in the environments without interruption by perhaps integrating the tombs as part of the main narrative to allow for this extended exploration feel. Above all thank you for all your hard work!
Good news that a new Tomb Raider is coming! However seeing Epic involved is a bit worrying for me. I hope we will not be forced to buy the game only through the epic games store. A Steam version is a must have! Other thing: what happens to all the game engine devs that where working on the previous engine… are the just fired?
They will never do that and why support the Chinese?
Just because it's using unreal engine doesn't mean it will be epic games exclusive there's tons of games made on unreal engine released on steam, the guy in the video just congratulated epic games team as the team of developers who make unreal engine not the publisher

That's really interesting but I'm worried about the "we JUST STARTED development" part. I hope it means only just starting moving the workflow to UE5? Because I thought the game would already be far in development by now, at least for a year or so.
My guess is that it means they have the script written and the characters thought out, so they're moving onto actually creating the game. So the pre-production process is completed, and production has begun. So they're building the game's assets (character models, environmental textures, animations, etc), and I think this is when they start the voice acting as well. Post production is all about getting the created assets working, making sure textures are loading in properly, perfecting lipsync, and finishing up the voice acting. When a game "goes gold", that means it's pretty much ready for release. Bug fixes and testing for the most part. That's usually about a month or two before release. So the phases of development:
- pre-production
- production
- post-production
- Gold
- Launch
Right now, they're probably in the second.

I'm definitely patient and I don't mind if they still have years of development ahead of them. No need to rush.

Thank you Crystal Dynamics! I have a feeling the next Tomb Raider game along with Crystal Dynamics new goal of fidelity to the fans and tomb raider will win the fans over from each tomb raider era. With the unique situation the franchise is in and the announcement of Unreal Engine 5 this next game has the potential to be the best Tomb Raider game ever made.

Check-list for the next game to be a masterpiece:
- More acrobatic Lara
- Real puzzles and difficulty progression
- Gameplay focused in tombs, not in villages filled with npcs asking for llama skins and having to dress in tribal outfits.
- Actual exploration and hidden stuff to find
- No more parents drama
- Classic Lara being confident, sassy and fun. No more cry baby Lara that needs to follow her daddy path.
- Memorable bosses fights would be a plus

Why?... It's none of your business. It's done when it's done and out when it's out.
The reboot Tomb Raider games are a bastion of hope compared to other triple-A publishers/developers which release games quite rare and even then they are dumbed-down for a broader audience trying to please everyone.
Continue with Lara Croft based on Camilla Luddington, continue going towards a survival/dark/horror theme, tombs are not pretty, survival is not a walk in the park. Keep the braided ponytail, shorts, acrobatics and dual wielding pistols for arcade-inspired action titles.
You don't need luck, you never have. But Good Luck anyways Crystal Dynamics!

Hopefully we get more classic Lara and less handholding gameplay. SOTTR was the only game out of the reboot trilogy that actually somewhat tried to capture the spirit of the originals.
And it was nowhere close to rise or 2013, it was an flop game just like old Lara.

You guys should rescue some of the essence of Tomb Raider from PS1/PS2 - like puzzles and acrobatics, for example. Something that the last releases (despite being incredible) left almost completely aside.

Survivor lara was confirmed to be Classic Lara recently and all the other Laras except the movie ones

They said they're adapting the stories of the older games, they can't just remaster the older games and somehow link them to the reboot games because the older games are set, what, in the 90s and are vastly different in the direction.
Would be nice to see the older games remastered for current gen platforms though. Not linking them to any new stuff with future new games, just the old games in high definition on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The unreal engine 5 reveal gave me huge Tomb Raider vibes so this news isn’t as much of a surprise to me really, which sounds like I’m being slightly negative but not at all…..this is great news and I can’t wait for the reveal of the next game. Wishful thinking totally but if only the rumours of Sony buying Square Enix were true, Classic Lara would well and truly be back!!!! 😍

BRO I can't actually wait for this new game bec I used to play back under 2017 the old tomb raider not rise the 2013 one I think on the PS3 then when I got the Xbox I got the whole bundle.with 3 of the games in and I will be able to preorder this when it comes out so excited! Tomb raider if you see this please bring multiplayer back like you did in the 2013 game with FFA team deathmatch etc: I would play your new game for such a long time especially story mode !

Need a mix of Reboot and Classic TR
Tomb Raider has been a big part of my life for 26 years. It means a lot to me. Please listen to what the fans want from the next game. My asks:
1. Bring back Keeley Hawes! She is the perfect Lara.
2. Lara needs to be acrobatic, especially in combat.
3. Big emphasis on the tombs please. Make them mandatory, multi-room, multi-level and make them huge: I want to spend hours and hours in each tomb, not 20 minutes.
4. You probably already have a story and locations. My ultimate dream would be a loving and faithful remake of Tomb Raider 2. FF7 Remake showed how to do this. If it's a new story, my preferred locations would be Japan, China, Hawaii, Myanmar or Egypt.
5. The combat levels in Shadow were perfect. The stealth was nice too. But the skill tree needs to be more meaningful and reflect the gameplay.
6. Strong narrative is a must. Look at how brilliantly God of War blended story, character and gameplay. They never felt like separate entities.
7. Costumes must be cooler, with no restrictions like in Shadow. The classic outfit is a must.
8. Please not open world! Hubs are fine as long as they make sense in the context of the story.
9. Make side quests meaningful, substantial and compelling, with better rewards.
10. No white paint, no survival instincts and no on-screen or verbal hints! Let me work out where to go by myself. Ability to customise what we do and don't see on the screen - personally I want a totally clear screen so I feel immersed.
11. Make the environment more interactive. I want to be able to climb anything that looks climbable, and for gods sake don't stop Lara falling off ledges with invisible barriers! It takes away the heart-in-mouth moments if everything feels too safe.
12. Immersive Dolby Atmos soundtrack please!
13. Better music, with actual melodies. Get Nathan McRee involved! Especially if you remake one of the original games - doing this without a McRee-supervised rendition of the original soundtrack would be unforgivable.
14. No hidden loading screens with crawling or ducking that slow down the game.
15. NO bow and please god no more rope pulling!
16. Please keep the items, manuscripts, steles etc that tell us more about the civilisations, history and myth we're exploring.
17. Would be cool to be able to wield mythical weapons again towards the end of the game, like in Legend and Underworld.
18. Wider choice of in game weapons. Dual uzis are a must!
19. Please keep and expand swimming!
