- We always wanted to meet Singer/Songwriter Glen Hansard. He toured Germany a few years ago, we arranged a date, but under unforeseen circumstances he had to cancel it. Long story short: Some months ago we met someone from his record label who told us there’d be a new record and a Glen would be in Cologne for a day. It worked out well, we walked with him to a friend’s very small backyard, where those three amazing videos have been created. Glen Hansard comes from Ireland and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008 used in the movie ‚Once‘ (you should see that movie, if you haven’t already).

Cardinal Sessions was founded in the summer of 2010. They challenge the classic music video and try to replace impersonal footage with immediate and emotional snapshots.
Bands from all over the world with their different genres present their songs reduced to the essence of the musical spectrum - only vocals and unplugged instruments. Due to the spontaneous live-aspect and the approach to record every song without any additional rehearsal, songs emerge that often sound significantly different to their album versions.
We film on locations that the musicians mostly choose by themselves: remote places, frequented streets, parks, woods, fields, bars; nothing is impossible. We have accomplished our goal if the location fits well to the background of the music we and the artists want to present. But our most important purpose is that there are no borders: we film everything that we like, no matter how popular, famous or also unknown a band might be. It is still important for us to support local talents and it will always stay part of our concept.
The Cardinal Sessions team can also be booked: for example to film short documentaries of album recordings, studio recordings or live concert moments that you want to capture.

I had the pleasure of seeing Glen live 2 years ago. The lady working coat check at the venue that night was obviously a fan. Glen could see her peering through the doors during the show trying to see the best she could, and asked why she couldn't come in and watch. Someone explained that she was working, and he felt bad she was missing the show. During his encore, he ran out to the lobby and sang this song to her. After he finished playing, he kissed her on the cheek. It was the coolest thing I've ever witnessed at a concert to date.

I think happened in Atlanta. I saw him there and this same thing occurred.
He retuned his guitar midsong...like dude you're incredible.
And he ignored the broken G string like it wasn't even supposed to be there in the first place.
He broke Gs all his life...
When I saw Steve Goodman in concert back in the late 70s, he broke a string in the middle of a song and not only retuned in the middle of the song, but actually restrung the broken string (while continuing to play).
No doubt, I feel so blessed to have seen this, perhaps the most unique live performance of this song there'll ever be. You know something is good when the blemishes only make it better. Witness: knotty pine & salted caramel. Glen is one special dude!

Had the absolute privilege with 400 other lucky souls to see him live in Leeds this week. Just him, his piano and a couple of guitars...a brilliant acoustic session to witness. Track him down live whilst you can.

I went to a show of his years ago, more than 5 years ago for sure. He had some Spanish musicians introducing him, really nice and talented people... they are called "Escuchando Elefantes" if you want to check them out. I remember he broke some strings too. I still remember that night, one of the most wonderful live shows I've attended too. Thank you Glen, you rock! (Sorry English isn't my mother language)

There are some performances you cannot emulate. This was never a “clean” song anyway, with the shouting part, but how he works the string break into the whole thing as if it’s nothing and then just retunes for the outro is just great.
