It makes the possibility more real somehow. Because of that, I have always striven to try to cope and hang on. It sounds so trite to say "better days are coming"....but it is such an enormous truth. I have loved him for years. He sang and helped to organize the musicians and song at Shane Mac Gowans funeral 4 months ago, that funeral itself was an amazing gathering of some of Ireland's best. Johnny Deep was a pallbearer, it is worth the 2 1//2 hr. livestream.
There are some artists who have this incredible ability to emote to such an extent when they perform that it's almost visceral. It's raw, it's pure and their authenticity is like a punch to the gut. The emotion they pour in to their lyrics, melodies and performances feels tangible at times. Damien Rice is one of those artists. Jeff Buckley was another, as was Johnny Cash (think 'Hurt'), but the master has to be Glen Hansard. It's been almost two decades since I first heard his music - Falling Slowly - and nearly 20yrs on his music is every bit as mesmerising. If you haven't heard it, 'Time will be the Healer' is another masterpiece of his.
